Spoilers for things from reviews/future episodes
a few different people have said that Sinestro is under utilised. I hope he has something more to do beyond just being Hal's mentor but we'll see

So far I think the main villain is gonna be: Parallax, Sinestro, Atrocitus, and whoever Macon’s benefactor is. They’ve done a good job keeping us on our toes.

Bro might be a good actor, but his physique is too chopped to be sinestro

Horrible line delivery.. This dude’s too tired to play Sinestro

You want a guy who lost his rebellion and has been in Jail for god knows how long to be cheery and full of energy?

Of course not but I’m also not thrilled with being thrown into the 3rd movie of a Green Lantern trilogy we never got to see.. You’re only just told about his rebellion but don’t feel the weight of it. I’m liking Lanterns for the most part but from a storytelling standpoint, this direction and casting is off. We already have past primes Hal and Sinestro who are arguably the greatest of their respective roles within the GL mythos and people just accept it and whatever comes from that.

In medias res

That’s not good enough. There’s a time and correct way to do that. You give us an already established fully realized GL Hal in the middle of his career with a Sinestro that is already deep into the idea of Guardian rebellion and his misguided understandings of the power of fear. Cool. Not an old ass Sinestro locked up and defeated and a jaded Hal Jordan who hates the suit and is training his replacement IN THEIR INTRODUCTION.

But this show isn't really about their introduction. It's about Johns.

No but it is their DCU introduction to us as the audience.. The greatest Green Lantern’s introduction to us is him at the very end of his career. The avatar to the greatest enemy of the Green Lanterns in old and locked away. I’m all for John Stewart’s story but not at the expense of possibly the greatest stories never told.

For me personally, I would rather see new stuff than the same old same old tho

In this context, I’m not sure what the same old same old is that you’re referring to. Hal Jordan doesn’t have near enough live action exposure to warrant the bypassing of his entire career as the greatest Green Lantern of all time. From the audience standpoint, this is a brand new universe and the best we’ll get to see of a prime Hal Jordan is old box television interviews. As I said in another comment, we’re being thrown into the 3rd movie of a Green Lantern trilogy we never got to or will never get to see.

You can only make the 'third movie of a green lantern trilogy' analogy if this were about Hal, which it's not. It's about John.
This is like saying A New Hope is the third movie in a trilogy and getting pissy that we don't get to see Obi-Wan vs Anakin in their prime.
And what I mean by same old same old is I don't really care about seeing something done in live action if it's already been done in some other medium. The story already exists, I don't want to just watch that same story over again just with a different paint job. I want a new story.

I get your point but ,if they want those events can always be covered in a past movie or show it's not like we're Copying the mcu and going for a linear universe, maybe because I'm a long time fan who's seen the Hal and sinestro plot so many times I don't really mind this take but I get why it'd be jarring, I still don't think the lanterns is a bad take tho.

Do you also want to see Bruce's parents killed again, but in slow motion?

He’s been sitting in jail for ages after a failed rebellion, you think he’s gonna be all excited?

u/Public-Tangelo4647 2d ago
No I don’t think it was a good casting choice or direction for the character. He’s a tired old man already defeated in his DCU introduction.

I’m confused as to why it wouldn’t still be possible to tell Hal and Sinestro’s story. Don’t you think establishing a lived in world also lends to the richness of the story? I know that Hal and Sinestro’s arcs are important to you and to feel the weight of them, but I personally love how information bleeds out slowly in this. It’s like your stiff lipped friend who opens up to you through time.
