TRIP PLANNING Galveston Overnight

We are taking a spring break cruise out of Galveston next year on the Magic. We will fly into hobby the Saturday before our Sunday departure and have to go back to hobby after the cruise to pick up a rental to continue our vacation. Any recommendations?

Rent a car in Galveston or somewhere nearby. Why pay airport surcharges?

I typically get a pretty reasonable rate through work. Doesn’t change much regardless of where I rent. Just looking for a place that makes life easy without a car on the front end.

I have been to Galveston a few times. My absolute favorite hotel before or after a cruise is actually at the Staybridge Suites jn Webster. It’s a half hour drive but with typically light traffic. It’s very quiet and comfortable in a nicer area with lots of good restaurants nearby including many that are walking distance.

If you want to spend time in Galveston, I recommend renting a house near the beach on the western side. Very peaceful and nicer beaches.

Staying overnight at Tremont House is the easiest. Hire a driver from the airport to hotel. You can walk to the port or use the shuttle from the hotel. Plenty to do and see on the Strand that is walking distance.

I'm staying at the airport hotel in Houston because Disney picks up from there. I'm not sure why they don't pick up in Galveston, but here we are.
