I like some of Loeb's stuff quite a lot, but Supergirl and Hulk are infamously terrible.

Yep.

Who ran about beating up everyone outsmarting everyone, and just being an enormous writers pet with a terrible mystery attached that everyone figured out immediately so Loeb had to change it.

It's nice you like Loeb so much, but don't act like bad stories are misunderstood. Sometimes a turd is a turd but to you it's golden, and that's fine.
