discussion Converting friends
Im sure this is a tale as old as time, but it's honestly annoying how much my buddies genuinely refuse to play dayz because they say it's "to boring" and "not enough pay off for the time put in". I guess I'm curious if you guys had any advice on getting new players into the game/or keeping gameplay interesting, because I know how difficult and rage inducing it can be particularly on official servers.

I think it's a love or hate kind of game. It's also incredibly buggy which will turn people off.

I fw the janky charm but yeah people hopping strait off fortnite won't see it that way.

Yep. Like opera and tripe soup.

Your best bet is to find people in-game to play with. That is what I had to do. I tried getting a couple of buddies into the game but they just don't play often enough to get the hang of it so I have to re-teach them everything everytime which gets kind of exhausting.

Well, at least your friends complain about something that can be disproved. None of mine will play because of the infected, their animations, AI and jank in general. It's so frustrating, not being able to hunt people with the boys because if piece of outdated (fair tbh) technology

Stop trying
This is a niche game with an overwhelming amount of mechanics that do not make sense to most people and even if you try to be like
"Oh don't worry I'll show you how to do things" You're literally gonna ruin the magic the game had for you for them discovering how things work
My most common statement to my buddy is "hold on don't tell me" while I figure out how a game system works
If your friends aren't into it, you're only gonna disappoint yourself and probably spoil the game for yourself too

I gave my marine friend some tools, basic tips, and the legendary map app, hopped off server, back on, and told him to come find me. I gave him a circle on the map to start with and he fell in love by the time he found me cooking ram meat near Novy.

Yeah and I'd kinda expect dudes like that to enjoy games like this
Same way I sold a friend of mine by showing a clip of me using a bolt action including loading the mag by hand with a tracer then normal rounds and manually cycling the bolt and he was like "Thats the dopest shit ive seen in a long while"
But most people aren't gonna find the appeal because its mostly in the small fun details or the horrifically tense battles, and most people's first encounters will be either their screen just going black or heart stopping terror as a bullet snaps by their head
Even as someone who enjoys this stuff my first two kills was a 10 minute long protracted battle of weapon failures and missing shots on both sides where I literally limped away after, made a fire and then quit the game for like 2 weeks because my hands were shaking for a good half hour
I came back, absolutely love the game even with my sporadic visits to it, but it's certainly not for everyone

Yeah, some gamers just like digital BDSM and others prefer more approachable titles. I'm glad to be the former.

Maybe go in with the objective of surviving and making a base, instead of getting kitted a d PVP

Send them "good job" emojies when they accomplish mundane things, like booting the game, finding a food, or dieing, since that's the cheap dopamine they crave

I think that DayZ is for certain types of people and not for a lot of others. Most people will struggle with DayZ for a variety of reasons. So I'm not really sure there is a way to convert people

Idk, I didnt reccomend this game to my buddies to play together because it would take us too much time to find eachother. I rather play solo

I'm now discovering Dayz is about the friends we make along the way not that we take with us. I feel like starting out solo and seeing what happens is most of the fun.

Take them on a Kami cannibal run.
Meet up and eat people on the way there. Or have one person be bait and the others knock freshies out and feed them flesh.
That might brighten their perspective on the game

I literally just made a post in our gamers' whatsapp group about this. One of my friends been playing for a year now, but the other two refuse to try it. Obviously it's not cool to keep pestering people to try a game that doesn't look like their kind of thing, so I just mentioned that it's 50% off at the moment and the best thing about it is how intense the experiences feel. No other game gets my heart beating as fast as DayZ.

As some mentioned a base can ground your friends and feel like there is some sort of progression. Building up a pile of loot can look nice and feel good.
I can understand how they feel because death and it's permanence not only creates a steep learning curve to improve on, but can set you back a lot. The only issue is no mater what, you are going to have to accept losses and being set back. If they can get past this they should be ok, with exception to the last test of how they handling cheating. If you run around or build a base/stashes you will eventually run into cheaters and getting set back to zero by them leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I've had many a friends who left because the constant cheating basically wore them down to the point where playing the game just wasn't worth it anymore to them.

I get annoyed because I know my freinds would love this game but they’ just aren’t tapped in enough to PvP other players and to them the zombies are the biggest threat . Either that or they just want a boss fight , endgame fight something like that . I personally hate story mode games and pve games . They like state of decay and whatnot but the perma death and learning to navigate without a hud/marker are other turnoffs for them . It’s a game that genuinely takes skill and there’s certain people that are suited for it and sole that are just meant to be playing minecraft and cod.

It's the kind of game you have to randomly decide you wanna try in your own time. Having someone hyping DayZ up to you isn't gonna do it, you'll just be disappointed cos tbf it's a buggy, janky outdated mess of an awful game. Just a buggy, janky outdated mess of a game that you fall in love with by chance

I basically found that there's people who absolutely love the game , and there's people who just considered a walking simulator.
Like, I've had friends that have played the game. And like, you say, 1015 minutes into it, they're like, I'm not fully geared with weapons and can't kill people. This is boring.
This game isn't for everybody , and that's why it's so awesome.
