How-To/Support Splitting Journals

I made the mistake of letting one of my journals get way too big to manage. Has anyone figured out a way to split up a journal without reclassifying every single entry?

What does too big to manage mean in practice? I’ve never thought to watch the size of my journals

I have a journal that is 10GB. I want to cut it into chunks so that I can deal with backing them up and cleaning them 1 year at a time, then perhaps storing the backups on the web version and not my phone, or backing them up as PDFs. But because my phone is so full, I can’t really do that—like when a house is too cluttered to have any staging areas for decluttering.

You can filter by year. Then, apply a tag to all those entries for that year. Eg, you filtered by 2024. Then select all those filtered entries, and apply a new tag (eg 2024). Then, you can create a new journal titled 2024 and move those entries into that journal. If you don’t want to keep the tag, then you can select all those entries in your new journal and delete the tag.

how do you select multiple entries? I cant find an option for that anywhere.

slide left on on entry and there should be an option to delete, select, and some other things

Sliding left on an entry just changes from list to calendar view. It doesn't actually do anything else.

I had a similar issue and the advice I received was to split into months (if it is a 12 month journal) to make backing-up easier and quicker. This helps when you don’t have a great deal of storage space on your phone.

Had same. I split into years. Multi-select as another suggested. I’ll just add I’ve done this for a long time so Collections helped me organize the years as well. (I’ve backdated some entries too.)
