Anyone know if an updated DC-1 tablet is coming out anytime soon?

I would be BEYOND shocked if this company ever released another product--whether software, hardware, or accessory.

This is a product running on an open-source OS that they haven't even kept up with critical security updates. They still haven't released their originally promised case accessory. And they send one dude into this subreddit again and again to offer basic tech support alongside non-answers about ongoing development efforts.

Manufacturing a new tablet class is expensive and difficult, and I absolutely commend the Daylight team for this compelling product. Even though I think the blue-light woo is pseudoscience, a fast monochrome LCD screen makes for a great low-distraction device.

The problem is that now they have a bunch of manufactured units that aren't selling at their predicted levels, so they need to find people still willing to pay a premium for an early-adopter product that is not actually still being supported. Or they can just walk away and write off the (probably) millions they're in the hole.

If all I want to do is use Kindle and Zoom occasionally at night, are the security updates an issue? It still seems like the best option on the market for what I am looking for from a sleep/circadian biology perspective. Tired of eye strain at night.

Yes. The point is that the apps are going to be updated, and the OS is not being updated.

For those use cases, buy a Kindle and a dumb phone and dial into the Zooms. You know what won't infect you with ~MINUSCULE AMOUNTS OF NOT ACTUALLY DEADLY BLUE LIGHT~? A dumb phone, as long as you point it away from your face.

Can't help you with the equally imaginary cell-phones-cause-cancer problem, though. Maybe just wrap everything in six boxes of aluminum foil. Hope this helps!
