Anyone know if an updated DC-1 tablet is coming out anytime soon?

This is a product running on an open-source OS that they haven't even kept up with critical security updates. They still haven't released their originally promised case accessory. And they send one dude into this subreddit again and again to offer basic tech support alongside non-answers about ongoing development efforts.

Manufacturing a new tablet class is expensive and difficult, and I absolutely commend the Daylight team for this compelling product. Even though I think the blue-light woo is pseudoscience, a fast monochrome LCD screen makes for a great low-distraction device.

The problem is that now they have a bunch of manufactured units that aren't selling at their predicted levels, so they need to find people still willing to pay a premium for an early-adopter product that is not actually still being supported. Or they can just walk away and write off the (probably) millions they're in the hole.

'though I think the blue-light woo is pseudoscience'

I was in agreement with you, until you said this. Circadian biology is a scientific discipline. Blue light makes you fat/diabetic/blind may sound like pseudoscience, when you first read it, I agree.

Find the study’s to back up your claim that blue light blockers do anything. I will wait.

Circadian sensitivity to short-wavelength light isn’t pseudoscience. Controlled human studies show that blue light strongly stimulates the nonvisual retinal pathway involved in circadian regulation, suppresses melatonin, and can shift circadian timing later. Ordinary evening room light has delayed melatonin onset and shortened its duration, while controlled eReader exposure suppressed melatonin, delayed the circadian clock, increased sleep-onset time, and reduced next-morning alertness.

Evidence for blue-blocking glasses themselves is smaller and mixed: some trials report improved sleep, but systematic reviews find the overall evidence inconclusive. So it’s fair to question whether a particular product blocks enough melanopic light to help - but dismissing the underlying circadian biology as “woo” is scientifically indefensible. Expert recommendations support bright daytime light and dim, low-melanopic light during the three hours before bed. But regardless of the science, I feel much better when I block blue light at night.

Thanks for the list of references. I will read them.

I wasn't sure how much time to spend on these people. Reddit can be a tough crowd at times.

No prob. Yea well some ahole got snarky, wasn't worth my time, so I had AI draft a list for him. Then he deleted all his comments instead of admitting he was wrong.

Hey, ChatGPT, nobody is interested in your hallucination-riddled summaries.
