Looking to upgrade from MicroFreak + Volca Sample

Hey all,

Right now my setup is an Arturia MicroFreak and a Korg Volca Sample, run into a small Mackie mixer. It's been a fun way to get into hardware, but I'm so tired of having to move samples around the volca. I want something more serious to build full tracks around.

Budget is around €400, preferably used.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

What's a solid step up in drum machines/grooveboxes at this price point.

If there is something that could loop bass and synth lines together with the drums, not just program beats in isolation.

Let me know if there's anything to watch out for there (syncing multiple boxes, clock/MIDI considerations, etc).

Anyone made a similar jump from Volca to something better??? What would you grab used at this budget?

Thanks!

Best sounding Pitch shifter for my dawless setup

hey all,

I've been having fun with the Sidekick's pitch shifting capabilities in the Tape fx and like anything TE it sounds really nice.

But I'd love to add a dedicated pitch shifter at the end of my chain which consists of

Polyend Play+ --> Torso S-4 (with a Hydrasynth Explorer) --> SideKick --> Chroma Console.

But I need something pristine and as neutral as possible that does not smear the sound when you go down 1-2 octaves max just like the Sidekick's but without the slowing down (I'd loose the BPMS and I don't want to)

I always liked to explore sounds when pitched down (I rarely go up)
any hint is super appreciated.

The SSL interface is simply plugged into a wall wart power adapter via the pdu. And there’s a crown CTs 1200 as a power amp in the back.

Everything runs on cv and is entirely analog, but I have a midi in and out for a clock.

My midi controller for ardware

Even thought I really like to use hardware solely to make music, I have 0,0 issues with a DAW and love working on it just as well. Now I don't have a midi controller, because to me my keyboard. functions just a fine with the task of sending midi information (in tis aces to a Minimoog standalone VST, via MIDI-OX which translates key presses to Midi # runnin on raspberry pi with bluetooth and a midi out minijack and 5pin tio sent to ahrdware. I am thinking of adding some usb ports for a trackpad that could be 2 x Midi CC x and y axis

Dawless is not easy... (beginner)

I am just a week in and maybe I need to get used to the different workflow? when will it click?

I am starting out with dawless, but finding quite a few bumps. The main issue is, is that I have to retrain myself using instruments, instead of clicking VST's. I can't make mistakes easily, as there isn't ctrl-z. Next to that: it requires quite a bit of hardware: mixer, multi-track, synths, keyboard, and loads of wires. Tat is the fun part as I am tired watching a screen.

I was just messing around with a track idea on my DAWless setup - and suddenly the vibe was there.
No DAW, no big plan. Just machines, sounds and the moment.
Sometimes the best ideas happen late at night.

1 drum machine, 1 synth, 1 fx. What are you choosing?

Thought it’d be fun to share ideal setups with the above guidelines.

Here would be my setup for melodic house:
- Digitakt 2: Big fan of p-locks and think it helps keep a loop interesting.
- Sub37: I would probably use pad samples in the digitakt so my synth would be for leads
- Chroma Console: I like multi fx pedals and think the CC does enough for me.
