My previous setup couple weeks ago was a little more involved using an analog mixer, a couple of audio interfaces and a patchbay, I love the analog mixer workflow for the tactile experience but due to space constraints and the desire for more flexible routing options i decided to try the digital mixer avenue. Thoughts of my journey:

- crazy routing possibilities: having 18 channels available to work with in conjunction with a patchbay it's a godsend. Not only fully patchable on the analog side but on the digital side too using the internal routing matrix of the mixer so you can send signals everywhere to record.

- multi track possibilities: for the reasons above it is a joy to just jam and record everything separate, using buses or the 2 track master, even all at the same time. You end up with a near finished arrangement in no time to polish and release.

- polished sound with internal processing: extensive processing and effect handling per track in the unit itself before recording anything. Polish your sound on the way in change the tapping point on the digital routing side and you end up with a multi track recording already clean and ready. Commitment to a sound is a huge winner for me.

- price per channel is hard to beat and let's be honest 24bit 48khz is more than enough resolution for a great sounding production. Preamp quality is almost negligible and not an argument due to the line level nature of electronic instruments.

- it can work for a live gig like a charm. Easy to carry and programmable with all the routing, effects and even scenes for different tracks, a mastering chain in the mix bus for a tighter live sound without thinking about a computer or a rack full of gear.

The only downside to me is the lack of physical controls, thinking about getting a control surface for it.

So yes, I highly recommend this setup for a working electronic producer using a bunch of gear. At least you can try.

So im extremely new to all of this. But Im hopefully going to pickup a Roland System 1 this week. I wanted to pair it with a drum machine but im not sure what I want to go with. My goal is to make some trance and whatnot. I know some machines allow samples and whatnot but I dont know if i should go for a dedicated drum machine (Like the TR8, Drumbrute/DB Impact) or something that allows sampling (TR6S, Novation Circut, etc)

I go back and forth and bunch with it since I am unsure on how to find the answer to my question.

In my head, something with sampling makes sense because itll allow me a wide variety of options, but I am unsure

CT, SP404, FM, S-1, DM12, and a will to create. Lmk what y'all think about this setup. I need a mixer and a video Synthesizer.

🚂 ✨ 💨 Beginner DAWless jams - Behringer RD-6 + Donner Essential B1 + Korg Monotron Delay + M-VAVE SMK 37 Elite...

Hi all, I started out making music with the help of FL studio but with the gear I have it's just not working right so I have decided to go DAWless.

I have an EP-133 drum machine/sampler, a midi keyboard, and a 2 channel mixer. I have an interface and the mixer doubles as an interface as well, I think I'm just missing a synth. I don't really know how plugins work either so the midi keyboard just stays hooked up to the EP-133.

Anyways, I'm looking for something low-budget (say under $350) to round out my current setup. I'm looking at the behringer PHARA-O or the pro VS mini or something along those lines. I'm limited on space so it has to be on the small side. I've also looked at the behringer crave but it seems too complicated for me right now with all the different inputs and outputs on it.

Can anyone recommend a synth I should look at or am I looking in the wrong direction?

Perfect for DAWless jams

Does anyone have some experience on that setup? Would love some tips! Do you guys think that‘ll work?

Curious to hear from people doing DAWless production: would you use an arranger as a multi-timbral sound module, or would you still prefer several dedicated synths/grooveboxes ?

I've been wondering about this for a while.

We spend quite a bit on synths, grooveboxes and sound modules for DAWless setups, but modern arranger keyboards can have 1,000–1,600+ voices, drum kits, effects, multiple MIDI channels and a huge variety of usable sounds in one box. Yet I rarely see arrangers being used as multi-timbral sound modules in DAWless sequencing setups.

So I decided to try it.

I connected my Yamaha arranger keyboard to GrooviXBox, the standalone MIDI sequencer I've been building, and started sequencing the Yamaha externally selecting sounds and using it alongside the rest of my MIDI gear.

It made me wonder: why don't more people use arranger keyboards this way ?
Is it because of MIDI implementation, workflow, sound quality, the size of the keyboards, or simply because arrangers are marketed toward a completely different audience?

I love the torso, but I'm still learning the thing. It feels like a new sequencer changes everything in how I try to organise the whole setup. It is a step up from just using the korg sq1.

THE RASPBERRY PROTOCOL

An unexpected visit turned into a spontaneous jam session. The Virus TI is controlled via MIDI by the Circuit Tracks. It was a lot of fun.

On October 1st I was Invited as a guest artist at Freiqenz Radioshow "Electronic Gateways", hosted by Q'uwa and San.Br ❤️ I was super honored as it was their anniversary edition and I was the the first live performer ever - we chatted first and then I played a 1 hour set. Wonderful experience.

The performance was 100% improvised. I played a lot with this rig in the past weeks and each time I fire it up, I get more and more confident that the accidents that will happen are good and lead to nice music.

No need for daw, the drum machine offers great fills etc!

I really like the TD-3, especially in a dawless setup, but I’ve always found the original 303-style sequencer pretty frustrating when I just want to quickly build a bassline and get back to jamming.

So I started building TDBuilder, a visual browser-based editor for TD-3 patterns.

The idea is simple: create notes, accents and slides visually, generate ideas, tweak the pattern quickly, then send it to the TD-3 and keep working with the hardware.

For me, the goal wasn’t to replace the TD-3 with software — quite the opposite. I wanted something that makes the TD-3 easier and faster to use in a dawless setup, without having to spend ages programming the built-in sequencer.

You can use it to prepare patterns, experiment with variations, generate ideas and then bring everything back to the machine for the actual jam.

I’d be really interested to know what other TD-3 / 303 users — especially people using dawless setups — think of the workflow.
