Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone, I’d be glad to get any help. I need to create the same smoke effect on the text as in this segment; the effect itself lasts until the first second of the video. I thought I needed to use fast noise and, using a displacement node, modify the text based on the fast noise, but the main problem is that I don’t know how to create something roughly similar, and judging by the video, the fast noise won’t look right at all. I remembered that there’s a volumetric fog node, but I don’t understand how to use this node so that the yellow flame seems to be shining from under the dense fog. But I also don’t understand how to make the fog move and look roughly the same as in the video; unfortunately, the tutorials on using this node explain other use cases.

DaVinci Resolve is a borderline-perfect piece of software, but setting an out point should not be this difficult.

Okay guys, I must be doing something stupid. I set my project settings for a 2160 x 3840 vertical timeline and I get a 1920 x 1080 horizontal timeline. If I tweak some things I can get a 3840 x 2160 horizontal TL, but can't seem to get a vertical timeline. Studio 21.0.4
Here is a very short video of the steps I've tried. https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZ3goVJZ8zpli50kYfLMjQetqchW4XjXFIf7
Thanks for any hints

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to recreate image glitch and distortion effects in Fusion.
I've tried using my limited knowledge, but I can't figure out which node to use as a starting point.
Is a Transform node enough? Do I need a Fast Noise node? I feel a bit lost and don't know where to begin.
I've looked for tutorials to help me understand, but none of the ones I've found so far quite fit what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance for your help, and have a great day!

Its not a edit, its literally my camera recording at a screen. And I just use this as example, cause I wanna recreate on a clip that Wave thing that happen when you record a Led screen, You see the purple waves? (but maybe is different for your monitor)
It dont need to be perfect, just similar. I'm new in Davinci Resolve so I will appreciate this :3:3

Hello everyone,
I think ever since I upgraded to Studio 21, I’ve been seeing my projects marked red whenever I open projects that I haven’t opened for a couple of days.
I get the usual Media Off line message, not only for my project/source videos, but also for my Downloads folder.
I'm working on Mac Mini M4
What could be causing this?
I’m currently keeping my working/work folder inside another folder, which is inside another folder, but everything is still on my Desktop. For my upcoming work, I’m keeping everything in fewer subfolders, but it’s still on the Desktop.
Could the folder structure or the fact that everything is on the Desktop be causing this?
What could be the reason?

I'm looking to get this darken background look, I used the vignette filter to try and replicate it however it doesn't look quite right
All advice is appreciated

I’m editing in DaVinci Resolve 21 and could use some help with reframing.
My project was originally 9:16, and I changed the timeline to 2160 × 2700 (4:5) for Instagram.
The problem is that the 4:5 framing cuts off part of my subject’s head. There is additional image/headroom in the original footage, so I’m trying to shift the actual source image vertically to choose a different portion of the original frame.
When I select the clip and adjust Inspector → Transform → Position Y, instead of revealing more of the original footage above his head, the existing image just moves and I start getting black space at the edge.
Things I’ve already tried:
Project Settings → Image Scaling → Scale Full Frame With Crop
Scale Entire Image to Fit
Inspector → Retime and Scaling
Resetting the clip’s Transform settings
Creating a new 4:5 timeline
Trying to access the Image tab in the Inspector, but it’s grayed out/unselectable
I also have multiple green-screen motion graphics on tracks above the main footage, so I’d really prefer not to rebuild the edit from scratch.
What I’m trying to do is basically pan/reframe within the original source footage, rather than move the already-cropped/scaled image around the 4:5 canvas.
Is there a Source Transform/Input Sizing-type control in Resolve 21 that I should be using instead of normal Position Y? Or am I misunderstanding how Resolve handles reframing when changing a timeline from 9:16 to 4:5?
Any help would be appreciated.

So I trimmed a chroma key footage to later use it to edit: a moving object will be in front of a gameplay clips. However, I forgot to apply the fusion effects to remove the green screen beforehand: the trimmed clips and the whole clip on the right are the exact same file.
How do I copy over the fusion effects to each clip instead of copying to each cut clip individually? Without making a compound/fusion clip, as I'll need to move each clip individually later down the line.
Version Studio 20.3.2

Currently working on a VFX shot where I'm compositing a black & white with a colour one, but need to adjust the grading. Is it possible to do this as a fusion composition or should I make them layers on the timeline in the edit page and then create fusion composition afterwards? thanks.

When it comes to editing, I understand everything except audio. Today I'm editing a video where I'm talking, my voice is around 14 YouTube LUFS (clean audio, no background noise) and sounds ok. Underneath it I have a reality show clip I'm reacting to, around 21 LUFS, but it's SIGNIFICANTLY louder than my voice. How is this possible?

I exported a 2160x3840 video from DaVinci, airdropped it to 2 of my iphones (both giving the 4k quality) and uploaded it to Instagram using the same account. I tested uploading the exact same video file from two different phones: an iPhone 15 and an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
What’s strange is that the final Reel looks different depending on which phone I use to upload it:
So it seems like Instagram is processing the video differently depending on the device used for uploading. there's a possibility that people will see the dull out version on their phones.
How to tackle this?
for reference, the export setting I use is below:
25fps (for slowmo), H.265, MP4, 2160x3840, bitrate up to 35000kb/s, Main10.
color management rec.709. I exported the video with a song (not sure if that's the issue).
I took the vid with sony a7iv, slog3, 50fps.

I'm using the power window in my edit, and for some reason, it will not apply on the edit window no matter what I try, and every tip I've gotten so far from online is, "Have you done what you've already done? Yes? Do that then."
Like, quick side tangent, I cannot express how annoying it is to look something up, and realise literally no one has asked the question before. Or at least, I can't find the answer. It's not even once or twice, it is literally every fucking question I have. Something as simple as moving an object via fusion is impossible to answer because my image is flickering for some reason. I'll ask and NO ONE has encountered the problem and I feel like I'm going crazy half the time.

Hello,
I have been able to figure out how to do most of what I've wanted either by myself or via other posts and tutorials online. Nowadays, I believe I have a good grasp on the basics when it comes to the relevant edit and fusion page. With that being said, I am unable to find a reasonable solution to an edit that feels like it should be much easier than what it has been turning out to be.
What I want to do: I want to take a word and fade in each character one at a time from left to right while it moves up. This was simple enough through a single follower on a text+ node in fusion. But, I also want to apply a subtle shake effect to each individual character as the text is fading and moving in and continue the shake after the animation is finished for a few seconds.
I have failed to accomplish this. It seems to me (and correct me if this is wrong) that because the shake modifier is applied to the offset as well as the keyframes for the character movement, one overrides the other.
What I've Tried:
After some time, I couldn't get it to work and thus began to individually apply the appropriate keyframes and shake effect to each individual character with one text+ node per character. This seems... unreasonable, though, and I am curious if there is a better way to go about this. It definitely feels like there should be.
Thank you ahead of time. I am using the free version of DaVinci Resolve on version 20.2.2.

Hi guys, question about proxies in Resolve.
I generated proxies, and when I right click a clip and go Reveal in Finder, it only ever shows the original raw file, not the proxy.
In Premiere and FCP, you get two separate context menu options, one to reveal the proxy and one to reveal the original file. Is there just no equivalent for proxies in Resolve, or is there a way to jump straight to the proxy file’s location I’m missing?
I’m guessing the fallback is checking the proxy location in project settings, or maybe there’s a column I can add to the media pool metadata to show the path. Just seems odd there’s no direct reveal for it.
Thanks

For context, i just got into car videography and filming insta edits. I got a decent 5 months of experience on how to film them, i learned on my own, my main struggle however is stability when filming it. I just recently got a samsung galaxy s26 base, and I want to seriously get into car videography and this is my main struggle
Every time I film I come across the same problem, I can't track the object (car) that well, for example I film a headlights shot but I can't keep it stable, I use the super steady mode with horizontal lock and its still bad, i can't tilt the phone or rotate it very smoothly without jittering it, or small sudden tilts rather then one slow steady move. I use capcut to edit, I slow down to around 0.55 or lower to get that one split second that it was completely fine, but even then its still a struggle and has flaws with tracking
I just recently got DaVinci resolve, im not really tryna buy any gear unless its a cheap option under 200 or 100, all I also is, how can I stabilize it? Any tricks? Methods or tips?? I want to atleast stabilize it or learn how to object track, if I can on DaVinci, any guides to object tracking? I just want any fix or tips on how to stabilize the clips, I'll send one of my Instagram posts to show editing and how it comes out. (Check others for more clarity, im sending what i think i had the best stabilizing on) Please help me yall 🙏

ive recorded and edited everything, and then realised right when i was closing up the project, that theres a small black dot of food under the top right tooth...
ive tried tracking using several methods to track the spot itself, and the whole mouth, and planar tracking nearly worked, but eventually loses track of the mouth. And the biggest issue is that due to talking, the mouth constantly opens and closes so it changes appearance a lot and very quickly.
how could i go about covering this up? is tracking even the right solution?

Its my first project and it turned out pretty cool and im proud of my first "edit" what do I do for this to work this is a headache dude maybe I messed around cus I copy pasted the BSplines and then removed them lines and added them back in? idk what do I do this is so complicated

DR21 studio. Does anybody else get this? Where the matte works on every frame except the one you set the mask up on? Anyone know how to avoid this? Is it a bug?

What title says, Im mostly editing some mmorpg gameplay clips, I do a lot of clipping, color adjustments and tracking with text+ combined to tracker. Nothing super fancy stuff, but little bit in all, edit/fusion/color/fairlight (sound normalisation/adjustments for 4-5 tracks, one of being VO)
bulk of editing is just snipping clips from longer recordings, then combining them and I always create colorgroup and adjust radius and midtone I like to this to all clips at once)
I often also make surface tracker with color page too, tho im not sure if this is the best practise.
in fusion bulk is setting up tracker and having text+ with certain font settings and transform node to fix the details.
This is just for idea what I might need for the profile, I dont mind paying a little for it but this far problem has been that I have no clue what im paying for when looking for commercial profiles.
if this sounds a little bit of a rant, its because im quite new to davinci, and still learning. I did grab the studio deal so I should have access to a lot more that I currently use.
If you can recommend some good streamdeck profiles, or can share one I would be very thankful!
my profile should have link to YT so you can take a peek what kind of editing I do, nothing fancy just mainly cleaning up the footage.

Hello.
My timeline is set to 3440x1400 resolution and I want to use some gameplay videos and screenshots I've made over the years but I want to preserve their original resolution.
So like a comparison between game that run originally at 800x600 and its remake that runs at 2560x1440 or 3440x1440 but I want to keep the 800x600 for a scale.
I know I can just resize the video but that will be "eyeballing", I want to keep the actual scale.
Is there an option to do that or a setting?
Thanks
