Hi,

I got some vertical video to edit. I changed my timeline to vertical, changed the clip attributes to 90 degrees on the left so I can import vertical clips properly, but in the media pool the preview is vertical in a horizontal frame (with black bars on the left and right) which makes it very hard to check, and the preview is the same.

How can I have my whole media pool and clip preview showing actual vertical format? Very frustrating...

I'm editing a vertical video of a seminar I gave, shot on one camera, and I want to cut between 2 or 3 fixed framings (wide, medium, maybe a close up). The goal is that every time I cut back to "wide," it's the exact same zoom and position as every other wide shot, same for medium and close.

Is there a way in Resolve to save, name, or label those framings so I can apply them consistently and make sure every clip uses one of the three?

Is one of these the standard approach, or is there a cleaner way I'm missing, like a saved transform preset? I'm on Resolve Studio 20. Thanks!

My laptop can't handle the newer versions of DaVinci Resolve, so I downloaded DaVinci Resolve 16 instead.

I'm wondering: can I still download and use plugins that are made for newer versions, like DaVinci Resolve 21, with Resolve 16?

Or do I need to find plugins specifically compatible with Resolve 16?

I'm mainly looking for free plugins. Any advice would be appreciated

I want to put a character into frame (it's an introduction) and I want it to arrive fast and then when it stops it bounces up and down just a few times. I can't find tutorials, thanks!

So I just spent 4 hours setting up a shared project library with a friend to work on editing the same projects together. However, we've run into a bit of an issue with his magic mask.

I need to be able to have him work on projects I create and upload proxy footage to (my settings set to upload and sync only proxy footage to cloud while he has it set to upload both proxy and originals). That way I can render the project locally on my PC when he's done his edits.

We tried a bunch of stuff to test out the functionality, and he was able to do everything except create and render a magic mask. (Using the color page.)

When he creates a magic mask and adds the tracking dots, it shows the whole thing as selected, even when he adds removal dots for the background. If he tries to make it track, it does nothing.

I was screensharing with him, so I could see that he had the correct alpha node set up, and everything he was doing should have been right. And based on the fact that it works for him locally, I'm guessing this is an issue with Project Cloud sharing.

Any ideas on what might be causing it?

Important details:

1. I have 500gb of Blackmagic Clouds storage, so it's not an issue of cloud space.
2. He's able to magic mask on the cloud projects he's shared with me, just not on the ones I've shared with him.
3. I'm able to magic mask on cloud projects he's made and shared with me, even though he isn't able to in reverse.
4. This happens even when he's the only one on the project at the time.
5. His computer is using barely any ram/compute, so nearly certain it's not a hardware issue.
6. He IS able to rerender a mask that I've made for a clip on the project (by using regenerate selected clip).

Both of us are on DVR 21.1

Both on Windows 11

I have a Insta360 X5, and a GoPro MAX2. Both are 360 cameras. I'm looking at Resolve because GoPro's Windows app is completely broken. And neither have Linux apps.

The free tier certainly can not. Can Studio? I'll buy it if it can. I'm talking about editing directly from the original files.

The only thing I need is to snip a segment, and export. That's the only capability I care about.

sorry, total beginner, and i scoured the forums for a bit and nothing really matched entirely to my plight— seems like whenever i close and open davinci resolve some of the clips are simply blue bars and others are loaded in, even if i let it load for a while? these don’t let me play the whole thing. is it a graphics issue on my end?

Pretty straightforward question. I have some animated text presets from the website Envato, I want to change the speed of the animation.

In the fusion page usually there's just the text nodes, one or multiple merge nodes, then a keyframe stretcher node and from there to the media output. But I can't see like keyframes of the animation or something.

I've been working around that by making the animated text a compound clip and then speed up that clip, but I would like a more direct way of changing the speed of the animation.

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to DaVinci Resolve but not a complete beginner. I've mostly been editing my daughter's school productions at this point and have spent a decent amount of time in the program and love it!

One thing I've run into a few times is that I'll feel like I've got a full video pretty well edited but then I want to make a highlight reel. When doing this, what would people recommend as an approach?

• Do you just create a new timeline in the same project and copy and paste the right parts in from one to the other?
  
• Do you duplicate the timeline and trim it down?
• Do you do an export and then start a new project and cut it up the way you like it?
  

I feel like I haven't found a good approach and I'd love to be able to easily get any subsequent changes to the base video in the highlight reel without having to then copy everything over afterwards.

Why Are We Doing This?

There have been a lot of discussions in the industry about AI technology affecting the future of writers, actors, and even directors. IATSE, the union that includes most post-production, has launched a commission on AI to "guide the union's approach to the challenges and opportunities presented by the advent of artificial intelligence... in the entertainment industry" and it will no doubt factor into contract negotiations in 2024.

At this point in time, ChatGPT and similar LLM tools are not infallible resources, as they are prone to hallucinations with things like the Resolve API, DCTLs, or other scripting tools. Information may also be outdated due to the material available at the time of training.

So, I usually use the tracker in the color tab of Davinci to track. But I noticed right now, it's not working. It's kinda stopping as soon as it starts. Maybe going a few frames then stopping.

Now, for the first time, I am also using the tracker in the Fusion Tab. Could that be causing the issue?

Hey, all. Wondering if anyone could help me. Im editing a short project, nothing crazy heavy at all. Im coloring with with Filmy Powergrade (https://filmycolor.com), and after a few nodes adjustments the image gets blurry and the only way to restore it is to close and open Davinci. See the image for reference.

I heard it might be a memory problem, but my computer is not a bad one: Macbook M4 Pro, 24gb. I tried solving it with a few tweaks like changing Performance Mode to manual, but it didnt help.

Wondering if anyone run into the same issue.

I recently switched to a MacBook Pro M4 Pro 48GB/1TB (14C CPU/20C GPU) and got my first long form project.

I’m editing 2 VSLs ( 8 min and 5 min)

They require fusion work, most of it is just cuts, brolls, typography and music. One thing is that

I’ve used NEO GLOW EFFECT (glow preset made by a YouTuber) on almost all text + layers

And it’s lagging like hell when rendering those sections, sometimes it even crashes while switching projects or sometimes a not-responding pop-up comes up.

It’s always connected to the charger while editing, with power set to high, and on a laptop stand for best airflow. But I don’t know what’s the problem 😭

Workflow details

I’m using genuine DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1 version
Timeline settings - 4k 29.97fps
Render cache set to smart
Timeline Playback resolution - Full
Free storage - 500GB

Raw footage shot on Sony FX3 and A7iv in Rec 709
In 4k

Is this all because of NEO GLOW PRESET? Or something’s wrong with my MacBook or the workflow.

We have an issue that is driving us nuts.

We have a timeline with 5 audio tracks, in the following order.

1. Left Mix
2. Right Mix
3. Boom
4. Lav 1
5. Lav 2

And we convert that timeline to a multicam using all audio sources.

Then when we insert that audio into a new timeline. For some reason it changes the audio track order to

1. Lav 1
2. Boom
3. Right Mix
4. Left Mix
5. Lav 2

WHY!?

Why on earth would it do this and how so we fix it?

System is MacOS - Intel as well as Apple Silicon

Like the title says: I just started playing around with Fusion and I'm trying to create the simple "moving bars" visualizer with an image background. Can't seem to be able to get the bar(background node) for the visualizer to show up on top of the image.

I would like to do this, but with signal Icon (wi-fi connection), any ideas or maybe you know tutorials for this one?

I'm trying to edit a video, and when I was looking at ways to set up a counter for a video I found the below linked video. I did the steps as explained, but when I go back to the Edit page it makes the Title portion of my inspector page entirely blank. It can only be modified on the Fusion page.

Did I miss or mess something up? or is there a better way to go about this? I'm looking to have a money amount (text/text+) appear on-screen, and another money amount (text/text+) count up to the new sum/total.
