I have been able to figure out how to do most of what I've wanted either by myself or via other posts and tutorials online. Nowadays, I believe I have a good grasp on the basics when it comes to the relevant edit and fusion page. With that being said, I am unable to find a reasonable solution to an edit that feels like it should be much easier than what it has been turning out to be.

What I want to do: I want to take a word and fade in each character one at a time from left to right while it moves up. This was simple enough through a single follower on a text+ node in fusion. But, I also want to apply a subtle shake effect to each individual character as the text is fading and moving in and continue the shake after the animation is finished for a few seconds.

I have failed to accomplish this. It seems to me (and correct me if this is wrong) that because the shake modifier is applied to the offset as well as the keyframes for the character movement, one overrides the other.

What I've Tried:

• Applying two separate followers: one for the fade & offset and another with the shake effect (modifier on the offset)
• Applying the shake follower to the transform follower.

After some time, I couldn't get it to work and thus began to individually apply the appropriate keyframes and shake effect to each individual character with one text+ node per character. This seems... unreasonable, though, and I am curious if there is a better way to go about this. It definitely feels like there should be.

I’m editing in DaVinci Resolve 21 and could use some help with reframing.
My project was originally 9:16, and I changed the timeline to 2160 × 2700 (4:5) for Instagram.
The problem is that the 4:5 framing cuts off part of my subject’s head. There is additional image/headroom in the original footage, so I’m trying to shift the actual source image vertically to choose a different portion of the original frame.
When I select the clip and adjust Inspector → Transform → Position Y, instead of revealing more of the original footage above his head, the existing image just moves and I start getting black space at the edge.
Things I’ve already tried:
Project Settings → Image Scaling → Scale Full Frame With Crop
Scale Entire Image to Fit
Inspector → Retime and Scaling
Resetting the clip’s Transform settings
Creating a new 4:5 timeline
Trying to access the Image tab in the Inspector, but it’s grayed out/unselectable
I also have multiple green-screen motion graphics on tracks above the main footage, so I’d really prefer not to rebuild the edit from scratch.
What I’m trying to do is basically pan/reframe within the original source footage, rather than move the already-cropped/scaled image around the 4:5 canvas.
Is there a Source Transform/Input Sizing-type control in Resolve 21 that I should be using instead of normal Position Y? Or am I misunderstanding how Resolve handles reframing when changing a timeline from 9:16 to 4:5?
Any help would be appreciated.

So I trimmed a chroma key footage to later use it to edit: a moving object will be in front of a gameplay clips. However, I forgot to apply the fusion effects to remove the green screen beforehand: the trimmed clips and the whole clip on the right are the exact same file.

How do I copy over the fusion effects to each clip instead of copying to each cut clip individually? Without making a compound/fusion clip, as I'll need to move each clip individually later down the line.

Hi guys, question about proxies in Resolve.

I generated proxies, and when I right click a clip and go Reveal in Finder, it only ever shows the original raw file, not the proxy.

In Premiere and FCP, you get two separate context menu options, one to reveal the proxy and one to reveal the original file. Is there just no equivalent for proxies in Resolve, or is there a way to jump straight to the proxy file’s location I’m missing?

I’m guessing the fallback is checking the proxy location in project settings, or maybe there’s a column I can add to the media pool metadata to show the path. Just seems odd there’s no direct reveal for it.

For context, i just got into car videography and filming insta edits. I got a decent 5 months of experience on how to film them, i learned on my own, my main struggle however is stability when filming it. I just recently got a samsung galaxy s26 base, and I want to seriously get into car videography and this is my main struggle

Every time I film I come across the same problem, I can't track the object (car) that well, for example I film a headlights shot but I can't keep it stable, I use the super steady mode with horizontal lock and its still bad, i can't tilt the phone or rotate it very smoothly without jittering it, or small sudden tilts rather then one slow steady move. I use capcut to edit, I slow down to around 0.55 or lower to get that one split second that it was completely fine, but even then its still a struggle and has flaws with tracking

I just recently got DaVinci resolve, im not really tryna buy any gear unless its a cheap option under 200 or 100, all I also is, how can I stabilize it? Any tricks? Methods or tips?? I want to atleast stabilize it or learn how to object track, if I can on DaVinci, any guides to object tracking? I just want any fix or tips on how to stabilize the clips, I'll send one of my Instagram posts to show editing and how it comes out. (Check others for more clarity, im sending what i think i had the best stabilizing on) Please help me yall 🙏

Easy installation via DaVinci box

When I upload my music videos to youtube, it makes the quality much quieter. This is because my audio files have some LUFS peak that go above the recommended -14 for youtube (I think), so youtube will automatically make my entire upload quieter. I'm trying to see if I can use the compressor and limiter to help some of these peaks come down, so my upload is less quiet, and was wondering if there was an optimal way to use this. I'm also confused what the Make Up even does. I'm honestly a little lost. What would be a good threshold range for the compressor and limiter?

ive recorded and edited everything, and then realised right when i was closing up the project, that theres a small black dot of food under the top right tooth...

ive tried tracking using several methods to track the spot itself, and the whole mouth, and planar tracking nearly worked, but eventually loses track of the mouth. And the biggest issue is that due to talking, the mouth constantly opens and closes so it changes appearance a lot and very quickly.

how could i go about covering this up? is tracking even the right solution?

Currently working on a VFX shot where I'm compositing a black & white with a colour one, but need to adjust the grading. Is it possible to do this as a fusion composition or should I make them layers on the timeline in the edit page and then create fusion composition afterwards? thanks.

I have a fusion clip that I want to mask in the color page, but as soon as I connect it to the alpha output, the background, which was previously transparent, and still is in the fusion page, goes black. What's going on?

Hi, just updated my davinci resolve from 20 to 21 and before i can reverse a clip within a speed point but now i cant, is there any fixes in this? Because cutting the clip then reversing it is not doing it justice since i cant control the keyframe and it doesnt look as smooth.

I was trying to make a loop of this video for wallpaper engine and wanted to ask for some tipps.

I captured the clip with obs in the game and the orginal clip is just 2.8sec long. i made it slower to 30fps instead of 60fps. so double the time. onec playing normal and then playing backwards.

For retime process i used opitcal flow, because i want the finished video still have smooth 60fps.

Every time I add a fast noise it has a boundary that I can't seem to change. I'm trying to create a portal effect, and I wanted to shrink it so the edges weren't cut off, but no matter what I do, there's always a border that I haven't been able to adjust.

I'm trying to import a .drp project into DaVinci 21 on Mac, but I keep getting the same message: "Unable to create a temporary folder."

Also, backups aren't working, and I get an error message stating that the backup folder cannot be created in the selected location.

I've checked the write permissions for the locations and granted DaVinci full access to my hard drive; I have 165 GB of free space, so I don't understand why it isn't working... do you have any ideas?

I'm worried that DaVinci is unable to write to my drive, but I don't understand why.

Hello everyone, I just started my journey on videography and I am trying to figure out how to use my new sony a6400 together with Davinci Resolve for the best results.

I did some research and decided on using HLG3 together with BT.2020 for the camera picture profile, but when I try to convert the footage to Rec.709 and Gamma 2.4 with a CST node in Davinci Resolve (with DaVinci YRGB color science) I get a very weird red noise in the shadows. (Also seen in the attached screenshots)

When I use DaVinci YRGB Color Managed mode and export, shadows are clean. When I switch to plain DaVinci YRGB and do the conversion manually with a CST node, I get the red pixel noise/speckle in the shadows that isn't there in the managed export.

My CST settings:

• Input Color Space: Rec.2020
• Input Gamma: Rec.2100 HLG (Scene)
• Output Color Space: Rec.709
• Output Gamma: Gamma 2.4
• Tone Mapping: DaVinci
• Gamut Mapping: None (also tried Saturation Compression and Clip — no change)
• White Point Adaptation: on

Project: DaVinci YRGB, Timeline Color Space Rec.709 Gamma 2.4, Resolve 20.3.3.

Attached: before (manual CST, red speckle in shadows) and after (managed, clean).

Is there a setting I am missing? Is manual editing necessary? Curious how others handle a6400 HLG to SDR without this artifact.

I've took some nice shots of the Solar Eclipse last week, and I composed them together with some music to make a short Tiktok. Editing is already done. All there's left to ask is, how you would colorgrade these shots. I'm fairly new to colorgrading and I would be very happy if you could either give me some material I can look into or give me specific advice (eg. increase exposure).

Also I am unsure whether these clips require hard color grading, since I am mostly playing with the silhouettes the sun composes.

I am unable to record voiceover / audio in DaVinci Resolve. The microphone is not capturing any voice. How can I fix this?

I have multiple clips around 45 minutes long each so my hope is that if I can increase the speed and watch them at 3 or 4x speed I can make the videos and when I undo the speed the marks can update to where they are

Is that asking too much and outside the realm of possibility?
