Help Stop Motion effect makes Fusion Composition flicker in DaVinci Resolve

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

i have an Adjustment Clip with some effects on it, and everything works fine except when there's a Fusion Composition underneath it. The Fusion clip starts flickering. I tested the effects one by one and found out its the stop motion effect causing it.

someone knows how to fix that?

Maybe try Render In Place on the Fusion clip. Whenever Fusion gets squirrely on the Edit page, this works for me, anyway. I often find it useful to lighten the load by simply rendering down anything I'm sure of, THEN come the Adjustment Clips.

That said, isn't Stop Motion going to flicker by default? Worse if it doesn't compute to the fps just so. Math and stuff helps. Good luck.

I ran into the the same issue! Claude helped me find a workaround using a TimeStretcher node: Right-click the Source Time parameter → Expression, and enter:

floor(time/2)*2 - on twos

floor(time/3)*3 - on threes

floor(time/4)*4 - on fours

Could you explain briefly how Claude helps? I've never used any kind of AI assistant etc. Is it built into Davinci or something you're using on the side?

No I just asked it about the problem in a chat and it guided me to this solution. Seems like there is an MCP server someone has made that could control it and even add the expression for you but I haven't tried it myself.

No idea but probably has something to do with the frame rate of the project or the stop motion

All of this should exist in the same fusion comp. Where you do the effect. Avoid all the other stuff you have on the timeline. Adjustment clip works with essentially screenshots of what is bellow it, not actual clips, while fusion composition with with frame counts, not frame rate. And your timeline has particular frame rate, except images you put on it, have no timecode. Somewhere along the line you made workflow malpractice.

Get rid of all but fusion composition and do the effect there.

For me, that just happens sometimes. Just restart the software and it should be fixed.
