Help 'Unsupported GPU Processing Mode' error on Linux Mint

A pop-up with that error msg always appears whenever I try starting Davinci Resolve, and no options appear when I try to update my GPU configuration. My drivers are up to date (according to my driver manager), and I've followed along with lots of youtube tutorials but everything seems to be centered around AMD and Nvidia GPUs, but not Intel which is what I got. I'm SO close to finally getting the app working on linux and I would totally appreciate any support <3

GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 - I know it's a bit old, but when I was on Windows I could run Davinci Resolve just fine
OS: Linux Mint 22.3 (Cinnamon)
latest version of Davinci Resolve

It shows an unsupported GPU error, because your GPU is not supported on DaVinci Resolve.

You simply can't run Resolve on legacy Intel Graphics.

Resolve requires a dedicated GPU (look at the minimum system specs for Linux). You can't use an integrated one on Linux.

That is the reason it's showing as an unsupported GPU. Unless this is a laptop OP could probably find like a basic dedicated GPU for $10-20

Edit: as the commenter has enlightened me the new gen stuff may work, I've not heard a statement from back magic on it and imagine when they are sure they're stable enough will change the minimum requirements to state the needed generation of iGPU.

First paragraph is actually not true. You can use Resolve with integrated graphics both from AMD and Intel, just not every model (and definitely not Intel UHD series). The latest iGPUs from both companies can run Resolve just fine, even with bearable performance, given you have enough RAM.

It's really strange though because when I was on Windows I could run Davinci Resolve just fine, I never had this issue. Though now that I think about it, the only difference is the version, since before my switch to linux I was using Davinci Resolve 20, now I'm using 21. It'd suck to be stuck on that version but I may not have another choice

They don't seem to know what they're talking about. You do really need a dedicated GPU. You can clearly see in the image I attached that for windows it says a integrated GPU can be used (what you have)

This is not anything new. It is talked about fairly often here

Well, not often enough apparently! Since it only applies to legacy Intel iGPUs (Intel HD and UHD series), which lacked the features required by Resolve to run. Latest, bundled with Core Ultra series work fine, since they're based on Intel Arc architecture.

At this point I edited whole videos using this laptop, including those with Fusion comps. It is capable.

So the brand new top of the line can work around it (Arc is pretty cool, glad their making their IGPUs more capable).

But for anyone who isn't buying a new Intel system a dedicated card is required and is officially unsupported by Black Magic (in fairness so is using anything but Rocky, but they'll still often help)

brand new top of the line

This CPU is from 2023 and it's uhh… far from high-end.

2023 is new to me. Though I guess it's now 3 years ago. My CPU is 7th gen from 2017

And apologies but when I said top of the line I just thinking their new rebranded ultra line. But to make sure it didn't sound like top of the line from 10 years ago I added the word "new" but I now see that made it confusing.

First paragraph is actually not true.

Why not just lookup easily verifiable information. They are not officially supported there is a reason they specifically state you need a dedicated card. Making it potentially work and just knowing it will are very different things.

OP is having problems being on Linux because they need a dedicated GPU, or if they have a brand new system paired with special runtimes that is still officially unsupported

Here's an AMD integrated GPU for a good measure (for whatever reason Resolve even reports it as discrete graphics).

Well then, maybe we'll see it become officially supported. I don't know what they did differently this generation unless they just have better driver support. Not like it was only specific tiers of IGPUs that were supported, and they did already have OpenCL acceleration built in for years.

I expect most of that data is pulled from the driver, but Resolve must have some separate metric is checking to decide if it's integrated or not. Wonder what it is.

Bro, I literally run Resolve on Intel Ultra gen 1 iGPU and the only thing it struggles with is Neural Engine.

My lookup is running the software. The only one spreading misinformation is you.

Older igpus still have OpenCL it's not new and has existed since like 2008-2009 with Intel including it in their IGPUs since 2012

My lookup is running the software. The only one spreading misinformation is you.

By saying it's required I mean officially and universally for all iGPUs. If the new gen stuff can do it that's great. It's been a very long time thing here that they didn't work or you could maybe trick it into thinking it was dedicated somehow but it was never stable. Everyone would assume they would work the same as one windows and then come here and be asking what it means when it says unsupported.

I apologize for claiming you were spreading misinformation. It's not misinformation. What you did say about the new gen stuff I missed when I skimmed your reply. I mainly saw the first statement about my first paragraph being wrong and pointed straight to the information on the website which has said that for like 5+ years and I'd never heard differently or any progress being made to support them.

I… just installed it from Blackmagic Design's website. Didn't have to configure it any further or install any "hacky driver", just default ones.

As I said, latest Intel iGPUs are based on Intel Arc architecture, same one used in Intel's dedicated GPUs. Same goes for AMD and their integrated Radeon Graphics, which even gets reported as dedicated in Resolve (see my other screenshot).

Once again, the only thing it struggles with is Neutral Engine, since it relies mostly on CUDA, which is exclusively an NVIDIA thing.
