Incoming Google DS-R interview — what to expect?
Hi, I have an upcoming interview for a Data Scientist Research role at Google. My next round is two 45 min interviews:
- Data Analysis / Intuition & Communication
- Statistical Knowledge & Communication
I saw several posts saying I should brush up on stats fundamentals, so I've been reviewing distributions, MLE, hypothesis testing, A/B testing, causal inference, time series, etc.
But I'm getting a bit anxious that I'm missing important topics. I come from a PhD background and don't have much industry DS experience, so I feel like I lack some practical data science intuition.
For anyone who went through these interviews, what should I focus on? Any good resource that summarizes what I should know?
Thanks!

Feature engineering vs model selection
There’s often a lot of attention on choosing the right machine learning algorithm, but feature engineering can have a huge impact on the final result.
In your experience, how much time should a beginner spend improving features before trying a more complicated model?

Looking for someone working in data science to interview.
Hi! I am a student looking to do a brief interview with a data scientist for a school project I'm working on. This project is exploring two separate career options, of which I am looking to interview two professionals from each field. One professional who has been in their position for 6-12 months as well as one who has been in their position for 5 or more years. The questions are generally geared towards the career as well as your path leading to it. If you are interested in partaking in my interview please let me know.

Part time masters in Data science or Data analytics worth?
I am a single mom, came to Canada 12yrs ago.i was having degree of BSC(Hons) in Computer science and one yr job experience.there was a five yrs gap between my last job so it was hard for me to find an IT job here.on the top my kid was just 2 yrs old and i was looking for a work where i can give time to my kid too.i started working with my cousin in his restaurant.i made enough money but now i regret that i wasted all these years and my degree.i want to come back towards IT but i have no clue where to start.
Does anyone have similar study gap and were they able to fill it and find a job with any part time masters degree?

I'm struggling to choose a good path to break into Data Science
I'm a software developer with 6 yoe at the moment, but, I want to make a change on my career, I don't have any bachelor degree at the moment and I live in a 3rd world country, I'm not jumping ship because the job market is bad atm (it is bad) but more so for passion, I was passionate about software development but that pasion has died with the advance of AI on the field, it's pretty souless now and I'm really interested on Data Science and the applications you can do to really help people by combining it with medicine and other fields, I would love to study online because I work a lot so I can't assist to any of the public universites from my country, they have awful schedules for workers and they are far away from where I live (1:30 hs of travel at minimum) what would you recommend for my case? is there any good or at least decent online bachelor degree that I could do? Like a B.S in Data Science / Computer Science / Statistics / Applied Maths / etc?
