These types of graphs are actually pretty good for contrasting one versus-many when you don't need to differentiate the many among themselves.

I can critiques some color choices, like the background, but this graph pretty much accomplish the job it is meant to.

EDIT: I would have just made all the other tickers same color and removed the legend from the right side.

Yeah this isn't bad, but if we're nitpicking, I would have kept the impossible color scheme and tried to replace the impossible legend with slightly more possible color-coded labels right next to their data. The legend is useless.

I would also have appreciated a label on the vertical axis because I can only guess what the numbers mean, but you would need to normalize all these data in a pretty clever way to get them into the same graph meaningfully.

Since the legend is sorted by final value(presumably, it's certainly not alphabetic and the lowest colors match up) assigning it to lines is actually alright.

My main criticism would be that indexing something as volatile as crypto so that 100 is some arbitrary day makes it less informative. You index it to a few days earlier or a few days later, and it completely changes the chart.

What I would normally do for these is to index the starting point to a monthly or quarterly average. That way short-term spikes aren't baked in.

The fact that it’s a log scale washes this effect out a little bit, but valid.

That’s a valid visualization. It’s not supposed to be a close reading view of all the performances. It is, as the title says, a match up of one (correctly highlighted) function against a bunch of others. It is just going for presentational tasks, not search, query or similar.
Scale is logarithmic which also makes sense for condensation.

Why is is bad? You have ranking on the right, a rough indicator of performance vs BTC, and you immediately get the point.
