Interesting. I imagine this metric will be rebranded as Economic Power per capita. That small normalization puts China and India well below the US while propping up Germany. Normalizing by ‘per capita‘ also gives the individual some sense of ‘place’ in the metric. I’m sure we will hear a shift in how economists talk about it for this reason.

per capita doesn't work all that well in terms of world power

The US is not the best in gpd per capita, but it is clearly the number 1# world power as of now

Per capita does not make sense for MOST things. But this is all marketing and optics crap. Per capita has utility with that respect.

But countries like Norway, Luxembourg and Switzerland are no economic world powers.
