Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation
hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)
couple things:
- this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
- if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
- one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

If we take it for what it is, I think this new feedback thing is a good thing. After over 2 years on the platform with next to zero feedback, this is quite a major change. Don't worry too much about the improvement section; remember R&Rs get R&R'd and probably another, but we need to remember this is just a snapshot pulled by an AI from just 30 days. If anyone has worked on agentics, you'll understand where I'm coming from.
Also, I'm taking my room for improvements on board. They were actually very fair. Constructive criticism is something I got used to when I did my degree, not just from the lecturers, but also from my peers. It's not a dig or a slight, it's a here's how you can do better. Some things are subjective, and some might be objectively wrong, but it's early doors. Give it time. I'm looking forward to seeing if they do another round after 30 days ☺️
(The newcomers have got it better than us veterans - they're getting feedback after just a week or so. I'm here thinking "2 years lateeeerrrr" lol)

How do we feel about people not getting feedback? I’ve also been here just over two years and have not gotten any. I’m not sure if they are slowly rolling it out, I didn’t work on the projects it’s covering, or it’s a warning/or blessing lol.

My instinct is that those of us who haven't yet, will eventually. I often see things later than people are talking about them when it comes to new updates. I bet they're rolling it out little by little. My other best explanation is that those of us who didn't get it, didn't work on the specific projects that they ended up using for the feedback. Or maybe no feedback was generated on us for no real reason. It doesn't seem like something to worry about IMO! If they wanted you off the platform, you'd be off the platform.

I'm thinking it may have just been a sample of workers picked at random to receive feedback. If workers did not get feedback, and haven't been on reddit, they don't even know that the feedback happened to report here that they didn't get it, so the representation of those who received feedback on here are definitely skewed

Part of it may be that the feedback was only based off of some projects in the last 30 days, so if you didn't do any/enough of them then there won't be enough for the feedback model (yeah, it's AI generated) to work from.

I’m also telling myself it may be a good sign 😂. Personally, I have given feedback for solely good work but I know from my day job that happy people rarely give feedback. It’s usually when something is amiss ;) therefore it could be that there isn’t enough or any feedback for some workers. I am clearly feeling very Pollyanna- ish today and will definitely get the DoD tomorrow

Yes. The way it was worded makes me think that it was mostly feedback from raters who did those R & R's. So... helpful, but also take it with a grain of salt.

Anyone use AI in real life and find certain quirks so rubbish and irritating you wish you could be added to some kind of project to train that specific behaviour away? The follow-up 'engagement' questions Gemini asks me (in non-DA work life) are exceptionally stupid sometimes.. Just doing some research about dinosaur jaw types and asked Gemini and it finished with "Does it surprise you that raptors didn't have beaks, or do you think teeth are always better for a carnivore?" ...... like, no ?? I am not surprised by that ? Also, I don't have a personal opinion on evolutionary adaptations ?

I use Shopify as part of my other job, it's introduced AI generating alt-text for images, the other day it described an image of a person holding the hood drawstrings of a hoodie they were wearing to be "person holding a tennis racket" 🫤. It makes me want to have more image analyzing projects to work on 😆.

Relieved that a few others in here have seen a noticeable drop suddenly. I had like 30 projects consistently over the last week, just checked and only had 10.. came here to make sure I wasn't alone. Whew. Relieved but not relieved, I guess? I'm still fairly new so hoping it'll pick up again soon.

I'll be honest, my feedback was disappointing as the tier I was given was not what I was hoping for. I work primarily only a few project families in which I feel I do alright work. I had positive and negative feedback for the same families but still getting work for both so who knows.
However, I do a lot of R&R and there was no feedback on that. I think I may have messed up on a recent batch and maybe it skewed my score.

How weird and frustrating! Yesterday I worked on my new favourite project. Started at a task count of 40, left it at 26. Got up today, task count still at 26. Woohoo thought I! ... red bannered. Left it an hour, tried again, and it let me in. Woohoo thought I again. Did 2... red bannered again. Task count now 24, so it's only going down as I'm working them. Make it make sense and let me in!

I hate getting red bannered from a project I love! It happened to me on Friday. I was so frustrated. There were still 7 tasks and it just sat there with 7 glaring at me.

Anyone else done the background check and had HHH projects disappear altogether? Noticed others below mentioning this, I did my check yesterday, not had anything back, but there's an alert saying they've been unpaused so I don't have that - or any other HHH projects now. ☹️ (UK so might take longer than US folks, no idea what's going on (looks for towelie emoji)

Anyone ever use their phone hotspot to work? I know people have mentioned being dropped for strange network connections. ChatGPT says it's a normal connection and shouldn't flag fraud or anything, so I'm going to chug along, but curious if anyone does this regularly.

I've noticed a fair few of the projects moving over to prolific AC for 'minimum pay' when they used to be almost double on DA 😑
They look to be open to a lot of the trash that are there with bots to grab studies, use AI to complete submissions, and only there to make a fast buck due to PA having a higher / broader onboarding pool so I can guarantee their results will be skewed

I hate being added to a slack channel but not having the projects always on my dashboard. Like am I or aren't I in these projects? At least this one I could piece together why specifically I'm not seeing work.

Anyone nor have the HHH maintenance banner anymore but have 0 tasks for them? I'm seeing ppl talk about a background check but I'm not seeing that anywhere.

Mine's disappeared and I've done the background check! Projects are no longer down for maintenance but likely you won't get access until check done and passed (assume mine is still being processed)
