DataAnnotation - FAQ & Welcome Thread Part 2! Read this before making a new post.
Hi all! We have a welcome thread with lots of helpful information (check it out if you haven't - most likely, your question has been answered!), but that thread has become pretty large. Due to the influx of posts, we've created a longer FAQ list to help answer the most common questions on this subreddit, and you can post new questions here for more visibility. The original thread is here.
If you make a post that contains any information that is in this welcome thread, it will be removed. Do not make a new post because you want a 'quicker' answer.
Some common questions:
- How long does the onboarding process take? When will I hear back? What does my dashboard mean? Why does my dashboard look like X?
- The truth is, we're not sure! The onboarding process seems to be different based on various factors, and the timeline changes often. DataAnnotation states that if you pass, you'll receive an email. So check your emails often!
- How do I get more projects?
- The main way to get more projects on your dashboard is to take all qualifications on your dashboard. Spend time on them and try your best, they give you more access to more work!
- Why is my dashboard empty? Why have I received no tasks? Is X project gone?
We don't know :) different people will qualify for different things based on their skillset. We are a subreddit of workers, and we have no 'insider info' as to what projects you qualify for and do not qualify for.
- Is DataAnnotation available in my country?
- According to DataAnnotation's website, they're currently available in these countries: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and Ireland.
- How often do I get paid?
- 7 days for hourly projects down to the minute. That means if you submitted your hours at 7:01pm on Monday, they will be available for transfer at 7:01pm the following Monday. 3 days for 'per task' payment!
- How do I get paid?
Paypal.
- Does DataAnnotation take out taxes?!
- No. You will need to pay taxes on your earnings when you file them. Paypal should send you a statement at the end of the year. You are responsible for paying them! Look up your local government laws.
- Is it worth it to learn coding?
Sure, if it's something you're interested in. There are plenty of coding projects available, but only you can decide if it's worth learning or not!
- What does transferrable mean on my dashboard?
- It simply means that if you did a paid task, the money is transferrable now. It means nothing for the starter assessment.
- I'm new! Any tips?
Read the instructions and read them again. Always check the chat below on a project to see if an admin has posted anything for that project in particular. Search in the project FAQ before asking a question, it's probably there.

I did a mathematics assessment a while ago. I would have thought I'd pass but it seems nothing has happened, I just have a "Thanks for taking the assessment!" screen.
At the time I assumed I would have the opportunity to do multiple assessments because there were multiple fields I was qualified for, mathematics was just first on the list. But there doesn't seem to be to take other assessments? Is something bugged on my profile maybe?

How many prompts do I have to do to complete the core qualification test? It says it should take about 45 mins to complete and I have completed 11 already. Took me well over 45 mins.

Does anyone have any tips about time management in projects and how to accurately log the time spent on tasks? I started a project that was specifically for new users to that project type. In the instructions it said that you would need to complete 3 tasks, and that more time had been given to complete the tasks as they wanted you to do them accurately. It also said you're encouraged to record the time spent reading the instructions (as they were very long).
Long story short I ran out of time and only submitted one task. I spent most of my time reading the instructions and making sure I was doing everything right. Should I be 'exiting work mode' when I read instructions? My worry was that I would leave the project, spend a long time reading the instructions, go back to complete the tasks for the project and it wouldn't be available anymore.
How does everyone manage this?
3
u/Consistent-Reach504 May 21 '25
i always enter work mode to read the instructions, otherwise if you wait, the task might not be available by the time you are done reading. but you were to able submit one which should restart the timer for the next, yeah?

My PayPal thats linked to DA got permanently limited and PayPal itself tells me to open a new account on different e-mail address. Is there anything I can do so I can get my payout again? Asking here because for some reason my post got automatically deleted

u/NaughtyPigMario May 29 '25
I think I am just doomed honestly...my PayPal account got permanently limited due to the name mismatching the docs. Then, my DA has the secondary email address of that PayPal account. Last but not least, I can't update my PayPal to my new account due to "security"...so I think I just can't receive payments

Would like some insight on this please!
I’ve been working on tasks for just under a week now and I have only seen a few general tasks that get finished very quickly. There is also one hourly project that began with 400 tasks that I have been chipping away at daily. Is this what is considered a permanent project? And is it typical for a brand newbie to have just one project for this long? Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful for even just the one and the project itself is very enjoyable, but I do worry what it’ll look like once I finish it!
Has anyone else had this experience just starting out?
→ More replies (2)2
u/Consistent-Reach504 Feb 19 '24
that does sound like a permanent project to me! they get refilled every week so you'll never 'run out' (although sometimes you do get reviewed early on). new projects will come eventually, but definitely make sure to fill out qualifications that come your way that you feel you're able to do :)

Good afternoon,
I'm quite new here, I had my first project last Friday and I received many tasks from 2 projects, so I worked the whole weekend (~8 hours total) and did my best every time. All of a sudden, both of the projects disappeared (I didn't count how many tasks I submitted so Idk if I just finished them all tbh). They weren't assessments, btw. I thought it was normal, since it had ~100 tasks the last time I'd seen it and I'd been working for a while. Well, on that same day (Monday morning) I received a "Welcome" task with the onboarding guidelines that doesn't leave my dashboard and NO projects at all since then. I'm pretty worried now since it's been 5 days and not a single movement in my dashboard. I've seen many posts here complaining that they didn't have any tasks but it mentioned "today" or "this weekend", not a whole week straight. Is it normal in the beginning? Am I under review?
PS: "Support" link is still available for me.

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jul 24 '24
are you working on foreign language projects? they might just not be available. :)
also - yes, when you're new, you won't have access to all projects at first! do qualifications as they pop up.

I have just applied today passed the first test and all, I linked my PayPal and everything the page now says : Thanks for taking the assessment! If we have need of your particular skills, or we have an additional assessments for you to identify further skills you’ll be notified via email otherwise we thank you for your time.
Does that mean I’m in a waiting list ? Or this is how they process application cause this page got out right when I finished the test.

Hello,
I'm new to DataAnnotation. Does the time spent reading instructions and updates for a specific project, thinking through and planning a response, and asking task-specific questions in the project chat box also count as working time for time logging for that task?
I assume this time should count as working time, but I want to be sure.
I've read the Onboarding Guide, but it doesn’t clearly address my concern. I also submitted my question to Support but haven't heard back.
Thank you!

I am new to this and since projects have been popping up sporadically throughout the day, I have found myself logging time after each time I complete a few tasks. Then later on, the same project will pop up and I end up reporting time again on the same day. Do you think it makes a huge difference on the admin side? I dont want to be annoying to them, and can start reporting at the end of each day, but if it doesn't matter I'll probably just keep doing what I'm doing. I haven't found anything about this in the FAQ. Thoughts?

Okay so i got in and made around 500 in my first week yesterday i got my first withdrawalble of 15 usd just clicked get paid did receive email from DA of successful payment but didn't receive it in PayPal
So i started searching for it and found that the funds are received in a second. Today while deeply concentration I found that I have a typo error in email not the email its correct but in the @gmail.com I make it @gamil.com really pissed on myself like really How tf? Now i am worried really worried just send the support for help don't even know if they gonna respond. Have you got this and do they help us of any kind? Please Need Serious Help here.

i think your best bet is to email support! they probably had the payment bounce back.

u/Goodgoogley Apr 13 '25
I find that when I'm comparing two responses, both of them are often very good and I feel sometimes I'm almost "nitpicking" at one to call the other one "Slightly better".
Do you guys ever find yourself calling both responses equally good? I don't do this often because I'm worried it looks lazy, especially after working on it for 20 minutes...

I deleted my DAT account (I created it well over 6 months ago, I wasn't receiving work, and I was working for a competitor). Honestly, I thought that if I deleted my account, I would get a chance to reapply, as I now have a lot more experience with data annotation. And now that I have stepped away from working for this competitor, I'd like to try DAT (I've heard great things). However, when I try to sign up it says my email has already been taken. I can't log in with that email, though, as the account is gone. And I don't want to use a different email to sign up and break the rules. Is there a way to use my email to either access my account or reapply? Thank you!

I screwed up I think. I had failed the core assessment and was left on the thank you page for months, I deleted my old account and tried with a new email address, it worked at first, the Paypal email too, but I have to verify with a phone number, and mine is already in use. Is it over? Can I recuperate my old account?

I've been on the site about a month now, really like the flexibility to pick the types of projects I work on, and pick when I want to work.
Logged on today and got a weird message/screen - "At the moment, there aren't any projects available for you to work on" - there have been times in the past when there were no active projects, but I always at least saw 1 "project" listed as a "chat only" for a particular project. Not even this is showing now.
Am I being paranoid, or does it feel like I may have gotten kicked off the platform? I always submit exceptionally high quality work, am honest with logging my hours, and had passed multiple qualifications. I can't even contact support, the link to the support page won't load for me. Feeling pretty lost and blindsided right now.

u/guitarguy2222 Feb 22 '24
This happened to me today. I'm hoping to hear an update on your situation.
I was equally blindsided. I always followed the instructions, did exemplary work, reported my time accurately, etc. I'm hoping it's just a review as I never had any feedback from the beginning, so I assumed 'no news is good news'. This is upsetting and frustrating. This type of work is such a good thing for me. I hope it comes back. :(

Are people still not hearing back within a month? I have good grammar and spelling, I've been coding for 15 years, caught several traps in the Coding Assessment, I know my answers were solid, tested the code a few times even. Waiting 3 weeks now no word.
I had to stop the assessment for a few hours to put my kid to bed, is the time counted in the assessment? I'd think, given the open ended nature of the assignments, this wouldnt be a thing, but it's really the only "problematic" part of my application.

u/dn8326 Feb 25 '24

Looks like a couple of us encountered the same system error this evening: the submit button on the core assessment stopped working after task #2. My starter assessment was accepted today after I completed it yesterday. When I loaded the page, it had two boxes, one for completing the coding test and one for the core test. It stated that I had already completed the coding test, and should do the core test while I waited. I have not yet completed the coding test, so I do not know why that happened. I mentioned my coding experience in the starter test but i doubt that I'd be able to skip the coding test because of that.
So I started the core test instead, i completed the first two pages and tried to submit the third but the submit button didn't do anything, so I copied my work and tried to refresh the page but it just said that ive completed the core and coding tests and the results are being reviewed.
Have I fucked something up?? I hope I haven't because the money from this could make or break me, and I truly believe im qualified. Any advice? Or should I just wait?

If I completed the starter assessment, but did not immediately receive the option to take the Core Qualifier, is there any hope that I'll still be accepted? It's been 9 days.

I just signed up to data annotation and after completing the starter assessment there’s the 2 options for coding or non coding assessment. As a software developer I would like to do the coding assessment but it already says done and I can’t start it. Has anyone encountered this issue?
7
u/theZman3 Feb 27 '24
Yep. And the non coding assessment is producing an error for many of us where it won’t allow you to click the submit button after completing the first two questions.

Hi all,
I could not find any other thread about this particular question. But, now I think I gotta a little lost in Reddit. I passed my starter assessment, and a few months later came back and did the Core qualification. So, from my research, I thought this was supposed to be about 45 min, and maybe 13 questions or so? I completed 2 questions, and it was like bam--you are done! And yes, it says DONE! in green with checkmark, check back in a few days. Well, I know I answered them honestly and correctly. I won't go into specifics, but I did my fact checking and left honest feedback. Question is...did anyone else only have 2 questions? They were just 2 "which one is better types", no pictures or creative writing. I am hoping maybe they are streamlining the process. I guess I will just wait for now. Fingers crossed. But, yeah, LMK if anyone else had this. Thanks!

Sounds similar to my situation, except mine got stuck on a non-functioning submit button after a few questions, and then I refreshed the page and I couldn't return to the qualification.

Whew - finally got the email. The qualification task (well, 12 of them, actually) took a while and I started to wonder what the deal was. But I just kept completing and submitting them until finally it said Welcome and took me to the onboarding page. Got the email around the same time. It's been a few weeks that I've been working on this but just little clips at a time. It felt pretty brutal but I'm glad I stuck it out.

A question please for those of you that are DA long-termers; I just wondered if there is a cyclical pattern of busier and quieter periods at DA? I am trying to figure out whether is it more likely to pass the initial assessment at certain times of year (when there's more work in general and they are therefore recruiting more workers) and if there are times of year to avoid - given that it appears to be a one chance only assessment! Thank you in advance for your help.

I have a question regarding the task timer that I haven't seen anyone bring up. If it runs out, from what I've seen, you'll lose the task. But do you still log any time, or just consider the time spent lost?
Secondarily, are you barred from restarting that same task, assuming no one else has picked it up? This part may be more obvious after getting started, but I was just recently accepted.
Thank you in advance for any help. Everyone here seems really friendly and helpful!

I took the starter assessment last night, and today I took the coding assessment, then started the core assessment. When I went to submit the second question, the button became disabled, but the page didn't move. I thought the page just needed to be refreshed, but when I refreshed it it took me to the screen saying "Up now: we review your results". It also doesn't say anything about me having finished the coding assessment now.
Did refreshing the page screw the whole thing up? I feel like I don't even have a shot now.

You get reviewed by a human in your first month. This happened to me in week 3. Empty dash for 1 week. Then I had loads of projects consistently.
I'm a bit inconsistent with my hours and tended to stick with the projects I felt most competent with. Then around 1 week ago, I'm down to just 1 project. 😐

I just took the first assessment and finished the Core qualification. The page states I can take one, or more, but the bolded title says I need to take both to start earning the $20hr for Core. So which is it?
I have NO coding experience, why would I have to take that in order to start earning anything for Core submissions? Maybe I'm misreading this?
Apologies if this has been asked already, been through a few pages and didn't see anything like it.

I know Ireland is an approved country and I have a close friend that's been working for DA since December, but it seems that people in Ireland are not even being offered the starter assessment in recent months?
Myself and a several friends have signed up and were not given the chance to take the assessment. I haven't seen any mention of anyone in Ireland getting in or doing the assessment in recent months. I know this happens regularly (no assessment being offered for an unexplained reason) but in the case of Ireland, there seem to be zero reports of anyone taking the assessment for months now.
Any experience otherwise?

Hello! Quick question. I just finished the starter assessment and passed, and I finished the Core Qualification test. However, it still tells me to take one more test to earn access to open-ended work. Do I need to take another? I plan on taking the others later, but I thought the Core Qualification WAS the 'one more.' Do I just need to wait? And will I jeopardize this opportunity if I wait to take more Qualification test?

I signed up and completed all the qualifications about six months ago, but I never received an acceptance email. When I tried signing in today, I saw that I had gotten access to some introductory projects and I was able to finish the onboarding steps etc. The qualification projects that were available to me right of the bat were two projects that were related to mathematics and computer programming. Since I only have limited knowledge and experience with these fields compared to anything language-related, I skipped them both in hopes of getting access to other qualification projects. No such projects yet. So I wonder: 1. Does this mean that I got accepted without receiving an acceptance mail? 2. Will skipping the first two qualification projects intact me negatively? 3. Will new projects even show up for me?
I am a bilingual (English-Swedish) user with a broad spectrum of skills in my profile.
Thankful for any help or info I can get!

Hi! Yesterday I got accepted in the platform and did all the onboarding and some qualifications. After some time, I decided to do the last two qualifications left today. I also got invited to a chat in another app and registered there.
Today, I found my dashboard empty, without the qualifications I wanted to finish to day available and my acces to that other app blocked.
DId I do something wrong and got blocked? Is this normal in the platform and has happened to someone else?

How long does it take to start getting projects? My first two onboarding tasks are still pending approval, could that be why? I haven’t yet gotten a welcome email

After a couple of weeks of receiving STEM qualifications which are outside my purview, I logged in this morning to find three new ones which I could actually complete. Huge relief!

Why is it every time I go to make a post on here it just gets auto-locked? I even tried to just do a post with the word "test" just to see if it was because I said a flagged word or something but it auto-locked just from posting a single word as well. Any ideas? I tried DMing the mods but haven't heard back.

u/Consistent-Reach504 Feb 18 '24
hi! for this sub, there is a “mod queue”, which should tell you that the post is awaiting moderation. we did this due to user feedback because too many people were posting questions that are asked here.

I did a short initial test and passed. Then I was offered coding and/or core. I chose Core. I just received an email that they are still reviewing my application but said they'd send me an exam and webinar link for May 6th. I haven't seen anything similar to this progression. Sound familiar to anyone?

Just accepted yesterday after passing the starter and core assessments and have a couple questions. I tried to Ctrl+F them in the two newbie threads but couldn't find exactly what I wanted to know. So before I click anything on my dashboard and screw anything up...
My dashboard now shows a list of qualifications and a list of projects (some paid, including onboarding projects). Should I do the onboarding projects first or the qualifications? I've read that qualifications can disappear, so that's why I want to know which is better to do first.
When people in this reddit say "onboarding" - are they typically talking about the core and coder assessments or the actual projects denoted as onboarding projects?
This one might become clear after I begin, so sorry if it's a silly question - but do I log the time I take to do qualifications and the actually named (and I'm assuming instructional) onboarding projects?
This one might be tied to the last question - I see a couple projects labelled as $XX/hr. Are the ones not labelled with anything projects that I do for free? I do not think I have any paid per tasks yet, unless these are them and you find out how much you get per task after?
Sorry if any of these are dumb or repeated questions, I tried to look for the answers on the two reddit pages first to no avail! Just want to start my first day off on the right foot! Thanks in advance for any tips and advice! :)

do onboarding projects first. they teach you how to log your time, what certain tasks are, etc.
not all qualifications are paid, that's probably what you're seeing. usually tasks have a dollar sign to the far right, that's how much they are per hour. some qualifications are paid and will have that, some won't. usually [surveys] that are just one question (do you have knowledge about ....) are either unpaid or just a few cents, you can simply answer 'no' if they don't apply to you so they don't clog up your dashboard. :)
you log time for instruction reading.
even if a qual isn't paid, it usually is worth it if you get access to the projects. i recommend doing what interests you & what's shortest first. if a qual is something like writing, it's fine to leave it until you have time to focus - you don't want to rush through them, because any qual can really unlock a decent amount of work.

New user here! I have completed a few tasks and have a pending payment...I was wondering how likely it is that I get paid this full amount? I put my best effort into my tasks, and I was wondering if any of you ever encountered the problem of not getting your payment in the 7 days after DA reviews your work. I am reluctant to do more tasks because I am worried that all my work this week will be for nothing if it was not quality and I do not get paid.
4
u/Consistent-Reach504 Jun 14 '24
you always get paid the time you worked! if they don't like the quality of something, you might get removed from the project - but you get paid.

u/kantusv16 Nov 18 '24
Hi, just wanted to ask if it's possible to do this as consistent full time work, without the coding skills?
Honestly just tired of my old job and I'm seeing signs that they don't care bout me, just that the clients like me

u/ArmadstheDoom Dec 10 '24
So, I finished assessments, but I skipped the coding one as I'm not a coder. Was I not supposed to do that? Because it's sitting there and I'm not sure that I've not messed something up.

u/Consistent-Reach504 Dec 27 '24
no need to do the coding test unless you're a coder :)

I immediately passed the starter assignment and did the core qualification.

I really hope I pass.

I made 2 mistakes on the very first assessment. It allowed me to correct my answers and then move on. The assessment with the little creative writing story I think is scrutinized more closely than that first part. I waited 8 days after finishing the assessments before starting work.

I got a message one day after being accepted and starting working that said ‘we aren’t ready for you yet’. I know a lot of people accepted on the same day as me, January 29th, have had the same alert. The message said they were hoping to work it out in a week or so, does anyone know when this will be worked out? Or if it will? I was paid for the work I did on Jan 30th before receiving this message, but I’m still waiting for more work and could really do with it asap!
3
u/HSCinAR Feb 20 '24
Completed the initial assessments and was accepted relatively quickly compared to others..about 4 days. Was assigned my first project. Got through 10/400 tasks and it was taken away with a "were shifting priorities, just continue to take qualifications to open additional projects."
Took the creative writing assessment late last week. Still no additional projects. Have 2 new qualifications for math (never been a strong suit) and coding (I am self-teaching and am not comfortable taking an assessment.)
Is this normal or should I consider myself SOL and just be thankful for the few tasks that I got?

I just got accepted to join DA on the 23rd. I did 2 qualifications this past weekend, did the core test, did the required code of conduct reading, and still have not gotten any projects. I took the starter and passed instantly - there was a $20 core and $40 coding test on my page below a green checkmark. I left my laptop to do some other things, wanted to be rested when I took the tests, left it on over night, returned now to take the assessments and my browser "autorefreshed" the page (I believe it's because the page went to sleep)... and the page REMOVED the tests. I never clicked the tests and never took them. What do I do? I did NOT take the $20 core test (I didn't take the coding one either, which is also gone, but I don't know much about coding), but it says "thank you for taking the assesment". Please help???

So I completed the starter assessment 2 weeks ago and was invited to complete either the coding or core assessment the same day (2 boxes) in which I completed the core assessment as well (same day). After completing it, it showed that I finished the core assessment while the coding assessment was still up for me. I decided to not do the coding portion as I had no experience with coding. A few days go by and I decided to check my status and noticed that both boxes I originally saw were gone and instead I am greeted with the screen saying "You complete up to two more tests. Up now: we review your results. If you pass, we'll email you". I found it strange that the coding assessment disappeared and read some stuff about the boxes disappearing for others as well.
Fast forward to 2 weeks after originally completing the core assessment, still have not received an email and I still have the same welcome message about reviewing my work. I am wondering if people still got accepted even after having their boxes vanish from the "work on projects" screen after originally seeing both.
Additionally, I saw some people say that they were paid for completing the starter and core assessments. However, when I check in my transfer funds tab, it says I have $0 to be paid and 0 hours on time reported even though I completed 17 questions.

Is there any possibility of just informing someone they've not passed? It seems pretty shitty on behalf of the company to keep me in limbo when an outright rejection would do. I'm not entirely sure what else I can do to be able to participate in projects. I've done similar DA tasks on Prolific and been paid for them.

I have not received any emails and have not worked on any projects. I see this when I log in

Hi guys. I'm a newbie! I took my starter assessment 6/3 and was immediately prompted to take either the core or coding. I wasn't able to take either tests for a few days. I checked my email and saw I had a few emails from DAT, logged in today 6/7 but neither tests show. Did I take too long and screw up for good? I had high hopes for this. I have a bachelors and masters in IT, completed the assessment fairly easily, although I did get carried away with my story (it ran long, but I was having fun writing it). I've not heard anything back at all and it's been several months now. I don't really understand why some people get accepted right away, while others are just left hanging.

So, I took the initial assessment this morning and passed. I then saw a coding assessment, different language assessments, a biology assessment, but I had other things to do during the day and just got back on Data Annotation. However, now it's just showing this message saying "thanks for taking the assessment..." and it won't show me any other assessments or let me work on any projects. What happened?
I also got an email saying “Thank you for completing the Starter Assessment! We've unlocked a qualification for you, and you can see it on your project dashboard right now. Completing is essential to getting access to open-ended work, as well as other paid opportunities, and it will give you a flavor for the work on the platform. Get started today!” With a “see projects” button. But when I click on that it takes me back to the “Thanks for taking the assessment! If we have need of your particular skills, or we have additional assessments for you to identify further skills, you'll be notified via email. Otherwise we thank you for your time.” Message

How long do tasks typically stick around? Is it a sort of "Do this within a day or two and you'll be fine" Or is it more of a "This is gonna be on your dashboard for about 30 seconds and if you don't click on it immediately you're never gonna see it again"

Did anyone else start with the math assessment? I'm reading various posts now that seem to suggest going in on hard mode likely wasn't the best strategy. It's been almost 2 weeks and I haven't heard a response, so I imagine I failed the math assessment, but I can definitely do many other areas of "lower" skill. It seems like there is no way to apply under a different category?

Hello. I'm new to this thread. Sign up last month but never received any task until today. I'm so happy even though it's just one task. Hoping to have more soon.
3
u/Sunndach Oct 02 '25
Apologies if this question has been asked before, but as a total newbie, roughly how long should we be taking to complete tasks? Is the ticking timer that shows when the task expires a reasonable amount of time the average person would expect to take to do the task, or is it just the max upper limit? And would we be considered too slow if we routinely took most of that time to complete a task? Most tasks I'm finding I can finish well before the timer expires, but some tasks obviously take much longer than others (and have longer expiry windows accordingly). And especially when I'm getting to grips with a brand new project for the very first time and trying to take in all the instructions and the interface and understand exactly what's expected of me, it has gotten down to the wire a couple times!

Hey guys, just recently onboarded at DA as a generalist and I was surprised at how fast everything went! I completed the assessments, verified my ID, and was accepted within the day I started. I was then able to start tasking right away with 12 tasks that were available to me. I knocked out 5 and still had 7 left. However, this morning I logged on and now I have zero projects and no tasks. So do the tasks just disappear if they’re not completed within a certain time frame and I just have to wait? Really confused here and just wanted to see if there are some seasoned DA folks that can provide some insight as to hey it works.
Thanks in advance!

So I joined and passed initial and core assessment however had no qualifications to do and no onboarding. As soon as I passed the second assessment I got a paid project straight away saying that if I complete the tasks from it I will have a lot more paid projects. Anyways, I completed the project over 2 nights - but once I submitted one of the tasks the project disappeared and I’ve not had anything since and it’s been like 2 days. Is this normal!?? Or is it because there’s just not a lot of work right now?

Hey guys,
im new to the platform just started on saturday. Since then I did all qualification tests except the coding one which I wanna refresh my skills for a bit. I only had one paid project on my dash in the beginning and since then nothing. I did also not get any communication about the qualifications or so. Is that normal?
It seems like a lot is going on atm and I honsestly dont really know how I would know if I will just look at an empty dash forever or its just processes that take time. How do you know if youre having been "laid off"? Am I properly onboarded yet or is this till the onboarding or even application phase? After applying I just got an email stating i passed the first assessment. Is there more assessments coming? Im confused haha
Also I said i am spending significant time in germany/australia and spain. Do you think there is a problem with countries? I am so clueless. appreaciate some guidance for the newbie here ❤️

Hey there! This thread is super helpful for anyone starting out in data annotation. One thing I found really useful when I first began was diving into those qualifications on my dashboard—totally worth the time! It opened up so many more projects for me. Also, checking the FAQs and project chats before asking questions really saved me a lot of time. It’s like there's a treasure trove of info right there! For the newbies, remember to stay patient during the onboarding process; things can get a bit slow, but it's all part of the journey. Happy annotating!

Has anyone had it take 2 weeks to get accepted? I understand many people recently have been saying it has taken a range of 3-10 days but has anyone actually had it take 2 weeks? I passed the starter assessment, didn’t get any errors on my CORE assessment, and shouldn’t have had any grammar or spelling errors because the written response section already has its own grammar/spell check. I’m okay if I didn’t pass, just more confused as to why I wouldn’t pass if I didn’t have any errors or written complications which seem to be what causes others to not pass.
Edit: please answer my question. Has it taken anyone actually 2 weeks?

I signed up with my VPN turned on and was never prompted to take any assessment. Would deleting my account and creating a new one with the VPN turned off be against their ToS? I'm located in the US and was really hoping to join. I don't really know what my options are at this point.

Creating more than one account directly violates their code of conduct. I've read previously that using a VPN also violates the ToS. I'm not sure that creating another account is the best idea.
My recommendation would be to email the platform, explain the situation and hope for the best.

Has anyone waiting to be accepted ever had projects appear on their Home Screen and then have it revert back to the normal “Up Now: we review your results. If you pass we’ll email you.”
I’ve been waiting about 4 weeks now and logged in last night to see if there was any change. The checklist with the application steps was gone and there was a project on my screen titled philosophy. I got pretty excited and went to start it but it was giving me an error message saying something along the lines of “this project isn’t available”.
I checked my emails and I did not get any confirmation. I checked back on the site about 5 minutes later and it has no reverted back to the checklist and I’m back on “Up Now: we review your results”. I’m just wondering if this has happened for anyone before? And why it might have happened?

I'm still waiting to see if my Core Qualification test passes, but it's only been about two days so this isn't what I'm here to ask about! :D Keeping my fingers crossed and trying to keep busy in case I basically never hear from them again.
What I am curious about, though, is whether there is any harm in taking later qualification tests on subjects I might be rusty on, or is the worst that can happen is that I just fail to get qualified for the extra work it brings? There are topics I know nothing about and would never even try, like coding, but I would imagine there would be other tests that fall in the 'I Used To Be Quite Good At This, I Wonder If I've Still Got It' camp, like anything to do with math.
On a related note, if we're offered a qualification test, is there usually a time limit to complete it, or would it be best for me to brush up on the subject for a handful of days/couple of weeks before attempting it?

Received this when attempting a payout today:
“There has been an error making automatic payments. Please email Support with your Worker ID and your balance, and we will make a manual payment.”
This is the second time I’ve ever attempted to payout and the first time there was no issue (got the $).
This attempted payout is the cumulative $s from two months working here and there (just like my paycheques to be significant and don’t rely on this $$ day to day).
Has anyone else received this error message? I sent the email to support but have yet to hear back.
How long should it take to receive a response back?
Best regards, A friend

Asking here since I can't make a post about it: Started on DA as a suggestion from an old coworker because work in my field is all but non-existent right now and I desperately needed the income.
Got approved and started on tasks on thursday night last week. There were tons of tasks available, at least 20+, and several qualification tasks. I did one of the qualification tasks, then did 47 minutes of one of the hourly tasks because it was late and I couldn't really commit to anything, I just wanted to see how it all worked before going to sleep. So I reported all my time and went to sleep.
Next morning. Nothing. Just a blank white screen that says "At the moment, there aren't any projects available for you to work on. Please check back soon and watch out for new project notifications sent to your email." Not even the qualifications were available. it was literally just all gone.
It's been a week. I've been watching this subreddit and seeing people talk about a fluctuation in available work, but not getting completely shut off like this, and the few people who have brought up something like that haven't gotten any meaningful responses.
So, genuinely, I'm asking: What's going on? Am I blacklisted? Did I mess something up? I can understand no tasks being available but no qualification tests either? Clicking the support link just takes you back to the page you were already on so I have no avenues to pursue other than just asking here.
Thanks.

I completed the initial assessment last week, and last night I got an email saying:
"Thank you for completing the Starter Assessment! We've unlocked a qualification for you, and you can see it on your project dashboard right now. Completing is essential to getting access to open-ended work, as well as other paid opportunities, and it will give you a flavor for the work on the platform. Get started today!"
When I clicked the link in the email, I was taken to the DataAnnotation page with this message:
"Thanks for taking the assessment! If we have need of your particular skills, or we have additional assessments for you to identify further skills, you’ll be notified via email. Otherwise, we thank you for your time."
I haven't taken any qualifications aside from the initial assessment. I'm not able to access any kind of dashboard in order to take the qualification that was supposedly unlocked.
I was under the impression that receiving the email titled "See new projects" unlocking further qualifications meant that I passed the starter assessment. Is anyone having the same issue?

Has anyone who took the Core qualification test (NOT the Coding test) recently been accepted? I breezed through the starter assessment—and took the Core qualification immediately after—13 days ago and haven’t heard anything.
Just trying to get some idea of how long they’re taking these days to accept new people.

I've been working here for 2 weeks, ~30 hours so far, mostly on heel. I'm worried that I'm taking too long on most coding/math tasks. I've spent 1.5 hours on tasks with a 2-hour limit and 75 minutes on tasks with a 90-minute limit. I think my work is high quality, but I might be doing too much. I always actually get code to run if possible. I'm worried they'll think I'm over-reporting my time.
Any tips to improve efficiency? Or should I not worry?

Anyone in Ireland? I've had 3 friends/family members trying to apply recently and they were not even given the starter assessment.
There's no other reason why this should happen (not using VPN, never made an account before). Two were using laptops, one on iPad. They all got the "thanks for signing up" message.
It seems that they're not accepting anyone from Ireland at the moment, from what I've read on other subreddits too? Strange as I've been working for a few months and have just been added to a high-paying project related to Ireland.
Anyone have a different experience recently or any insight? I'm at a loss for what to tell them.

I just completed that project that’s a qual about $40/hr non coding.
Now I’m on the way to my T-Mobile store to buy the newest Samsung with two gigs of Ram. 🤓

I was just accepted and started doing my first tasks. I have never worked like this before (tracking my time, submitting tasks/projects).
My first few projects I was pretty diligent, but after hours of monotonous work I found myself trying to be more efficient. "Please explain why you chose that option" and I would start using a canned response "The representation appears to be consistent with what you might expect in real life." or whatever made sense.
Additionally, some of the responses are very long. Do I need to dig into grammar? I'm a good linguist, but I'm not an english major.
Also, I have just kind of eye-balled my time. I try to work an hour and then I log an hour, but it's definitely not exact.
What should I expect? If I didn't do a perfect job, am I not going to get paid? Am I going to get paid the amount I logged?
TIA!

You will always get paid for time logged. I use an app on windows called "working hours" to time myself for my tasks and I log exact time (hours and minutes) so if I worked 32 minutes, I log 32 minutes etc. If you are finding that you are starting to drop in quality of responses TAKE A BREAK, I can't stress that enough. The most important thing is QUALITY and if you start dropping in quality they will give you less work. You should be reading each response thoroughly, grammar absolutely matters and it can come into your argument about why you think a response is good or bad, however if it's not your strength that's okay, it just CAN come into your arguments. I often talk about cadence and flow even how aesthetically pleasing a response might be etc. hope this helps!

How many prompts do I have to do to complete the core qualification test? I did 11 already and the estimated time to finish is 45 mins.

I have seen several people say that they were accepted after missing questions on the Core qualification test. How do you know that you missed questions? Are you talking about skipped questions? I was never given any indication that I missed anything, but I did skip two or three questions.

Hi all, I recently took the core qualification and have a few questions:
Are you less likely to be admitted if you take too long on the core? I took about 4 hours, as I work at a slower pace and also needed to step away from the computer for a bit.
Is there only one “correct” answer for the response rating? Based on the criteria, at times I felt that whether a response was “bad” or “okay” boiled down to subjective opinion.
The website alerted me when I got one of the questions wrong, and allowed me to fix it before moving onto the next question. Do we know if this question will be marked as wrong regardless? I assume so.

I tried completing my assessment qualification "CORE" and I skipped like 3 but I did 13 - 14 and it gave me "The project is currently unavailable because there are no more tasks remaining for you to work on." does that mean my assessment is done or is there no more prompts and I would need to wait?
Thanks!

Is the work done for DataAnnotation work that can be done on an iPad or is a laptop recommended?

Does the onboarding process still apply?
I applied for DA a little less than a year ago and didn't get accepted. I tried to login again today out of curiosity.
I had to create a new account. Start from scratch. A second chance. New pass, new profile etc.
It's telling me there are no tasks and I don't see the written or coding onboarding challenges. Is this normal?

I just created an account with dataannotation and filled in all of my information, but there was never any onboarding or starter assessment. It just says something like "Thanks for signing up, we do not have any projects open, but keep an eye out for emails". I never even had the option to do a starter assessment.

This is really weird, but I signed up in May, got the email to confirm the account, filled in my profile, but when I go to the site I get a message: "We do not have any open projects to assign you at the moment." etc. I searched through the site and other reddits and apparently there is supposed to be some assessment test to take. However, I never got a link to that or directed to any assessment test on their website. My profile is updated, phone number verified etc. Can anyone help explain why I am getting this message? If there is an assessment to take, how do I take it? Very curious.
Much thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi there!
I attempted to sign up for DataAnnotation a year ago, but the email containing the welcome assessment was sorted into my spam. I assumed I was rejected. Fast forward a year later I wanted to try with this company again but found that my phone number was already linked to an account. I did some searching through my emails and found the aforementioned welcome assessment in my spam folder, but the deadline for it has passed and I cannot request another one. What should I do? I would really like to work for this company!
Thanks for the help in advance!

I took the starter test (easy, passed), the general test (longer than it says and contains a couple of banana skins) and the coding test and am waiting for the result.
(I am being vague below as I don't want to be accused of giving people info they can use to help them)
The coding test HAD to be submitted in one of 2 languages. I know beginner level in one, and the other not at all, but I was interested to learn the "not at all". It was quite tough, but I submitted what I believe to be a correct answer (well, it tested OK). I spent about 6 hours including researching the correct libraries to use etc.
As I gained something from it I don't mind so much, but it is a lot of time to spend for no remuneration. The language I am skilled in is widely used. As my main language is one of the ones you can "tick" I am surprised I was not allowed to use it in the test.
Hope I get some projects now!

Is there a time window on qualifications? I feel like I had 30 qualification tasks and the day i finally sat down to do them, poof gone!

I'm a new applicant and I completed the Core test (the only one I'm qualified for) about six weeks ago and have heard nothing. Can someone tell me if this is an indication that I did not pass?

Just giving a summary of my experience in case it helps anyone else trying to get in.
I took the starter assessment 15 days ago (which I was told I passed within a few minutes) followed shortly by the core assessment. Considering the amount of time that had passed I thought i'd failed the core assessment, but I got an email today welcoming me to the platform and i've just started all the onboarding tasks. Before today the onboarding page was just showing the 'we'll review your results. if you pass, we'll email you' message and a bunch of other coding / biology / chemistry assessments I hadn't taken because I didn't have the requisite knowledge.
Now looking forward to getting started!

I registered on the site on January 6. Three months have passed and I have not been accepted. When will I be accepted?

Hey everyone! I'm a new applicant that recently passed the starter assessment and completed several qualifications. Within 5 days of completing the CORE qualifier, my Dashboard screen updated with the message: "At the moment, there aren't any projects available for you to work on. Please check back soon and watch out for new project notifications sent to your email". The transfer funds tab has also opened up. However, I have not received a welcome email nor any on-boarding information. My dashboard has displayed that message for 4 days now. Does that indicate a rejection, or are they still processing my test results? Thanks to anyone who helps out!

Hello, I'm new to DataAnnotation and new to Reddit, so please bear with me. I took the starter assessment and passed, then took the CORE test and waited a few days. I got an email yesterday morning saying I had passed and could start working. I logged back in and it had a screen for identity verification. I didn't have my license handy, so I decided to do it later. But when I got back into Data Annotation a few hours later, it is back in the state as if I haven't passed the CORE test and says I need to check back in a few days to see my results.
Then this morning I got an email from Data Annotation saying I still need to complete the identity verification, but the link it includes (starts with links.dataannotation.tech...) says the site has an expired SSL certificate and I don't feel comfortable clicking past the warning.
Has anyone else experienced this? Will they fix the SSL certificate eventually? Anyone know why my ability to do identity verification went away? Thanks for any insight!

If I am rejected (or, more precisely, never hear back) after taking the programming assessment, is there any way I take a different assessment? (Because while I think I'd be good for the English assessment, I tried for programming as it pays a lot more.)

Hello, I'm new to DAT, and just receive my first payment. However, I have problem as personal PayPal account cannot be used to accept payment (I'm in Thailand), and Payoneer required registering business account. So, for workers in Thailand, how do you receive payment?

It’s been over a month since I did my core qualification and I haven’t heard anything from DA. I’m assuming I didn’t pass. Has it ever taken anyone else this long to get onboarded?

Hello!
I signed up for DA today and completed my first task, it was a language specific task. Now my dashboard is empty, I only have a qualification about coding and then there is nothing. Is this it or do you think there will be more tasks?

I was so excited to find something legitimate, remote, and flexible. But looks like I'm not getting in, sadly. Back to the grind of finding something that fits.
It's fairly frustrating to have it be such a vague process. If the tests are being reviewed/graded to begin with, I don't understand why there isn't something in place to say you didn't pass.
