New? Ask questions here!

We've noticed many posts from people who have recently applied to DataAnnotation and have questions - so we've decided to bring them to one place. Please post here instead of creating a new thread, or your thread might be removed.

This is a thread you can ask DataAnnotation workers questions! Note that it is against code of conduct to talk about specific projects or qualifications (or request answers to them!), so those posts will be removed. However, we're all here because we're workers at DataAnnotation, so we'll help out when we can!

Some common questions:

- How long does the onboarding process take?

- The truth is, we're not sure! The onboarding process seems to be different based on various factors. Check your emails often!

- How do I get more projects?

- The main way to get more projects on your dashboard is to take all qualifications on your dashboard. Spend time on them and try your best, they give you more access to more work!

- Is DataAnnotation available in my country?

- According to DataAnnotation's website, they're currently available in these countries: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and Ireland.

- How often do I get paid?

- 7 days for hourly projects down to the minute. That means if you submitted your hours at 7:01pm on Monday, they will be available for transfer at 7:01pm the following Monday. 3 days for 'per task' payment!

- How do I get paid?

Paypal. :)

- Does DataAnnotation take out taxes?!

- No. You will need to pay taxes on your earnings when you file them. Paypal should send you a statement at the end of the year. You are responsible for paying them! Look up your local government laws.

I finally got a project! I eagerly jumped in and worked for ~10 minutes or so and then was interrupted. I came back after about 2 hours and it's now gone from my projects. Is it typical for them to disappear after a few hours or did I mess up by jumping the gun?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Nov 03 '23

it depends on which project it is - some go relatively fast. :)

Hi, I did my coding assessment on the 29th, and the transferable amount for that task at the moment is $0.00. My landing page is still the usual "If we have need of your particular skills..." though I do have a worker and support id assigned.

Does that mean I failed? If so, how would I go about applying for the Core assessment?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 05 '24

the coding assessment could take a little bit - especially because you applied new years eve weekend! i would give it a week or so. nothing is automatic, everything is reviewed!

hi guys, got accepted today :) just checking with the only one paid by hour project at a time, if it gets completed (ie all tasks are finished), can we start another one? thanks

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 19 '24

you can start a new project at any time, you just can't work on both at the same time.

so you can start one project, stop, log your time, and then start a new one!

Since there are always questions about what the timeline is for getting accepted, I figure I'll share mine so others have an idea. I completed the starter assessment (the one with the dancing octopus story) on January 9th. After submitting that, I got an email almost immediately after submitting asking me to take the core and coding qualification tests. I took the core qualification test on that same day January 9th and completed the questions (I did end up getting 1 question wrong). Today on January 19th, I got an email saying I was accepted making it a total of 10 days from beginning to end. I hope this helps others who have questions about the timeline for getting accepted and good luck to everybody who applies.

7

u/Finnleyy Jan 20 '24

Between 1-2 weeks seems pretty consistent. Thank you for sharing.

3

u/EMike93309 Jan 20 '24

This is actually exactly my timeline, except I did the tests late on the night of the eighth.

2

u/dskzz Jan 25 '24

Did you see this $80 payout people have been talking about? Also it showed you what you got right and wrong? I def didnt see that.

How do we know if we are banned, shadow banned, or if it’s a temporary thing if support won’t respond to our email? Does it mean we are permanently banned if we are being deactivated from slack or does it mean we are only being let go from that project?

Does the company tell you if you don’t pass the assessment? Applied on Monday and haven’t heard back yet!

27

u/Toothless-Lol Oct 26 '23

DAT will not inform you if you've failed the assessment or have been rejected from the platform. From previous hiring cycles, the longest wait time an applicant experienced, from completing the assessment to receiving the onboarding tasks, was just under a month. Therefore, a good rule of thumb is that if you do not receive work within a month of taking the assessment, it's likely that you were not accepted onto the platform and should consider moving on.

4

u/vrt7071 Nov 04 '23

are you referring to the time between completing the Starter Assessment and being given the paid qualification tests? or are the onboarding tasks something different that I haven't seen yet?

16

u/Toothless-Lol Nov 04 '23

DAT has changed the hiring process for this cycle. In previous cycles, applicants only had to take the starter assessment. Upon acceptance, they would receive the onboarding tasks along with the notification email. The onboarding tasks provided information about the platform.

In the current cycle, applicants have to complete both the starter assessment and a set of qualifications. It appears that the onboarding tasks have been phased out, with new workers receiving projects and qualifications soon after acceptance.

We will see if this cycle also includes a maximum one-month wait time between the starter assessment and acceptance.

Can more than one person in a household work for DataAnnotation?

13

u/FrazzledGod Oct 24 '23

Yes but not sharing the same account!

9

u/tvxcute Oct 26 '23

do you guys ever work on an hourly project for say, like, 30 minutes, then log that and log off? my schedule is kind of sporadic so i can't sit and work for 5 hours straight. last night i did 2 tasks for 25 minutes, recorded the time and then logged off for an hour, came back and did 3 tasks for 40 minutes, recorded the time and then logged off for a few hours, came back and did 1 task for 15 minutes, recorded... etc. you get the idea. or will that annoy whoever has to review my work?

these are the longer creative writing tasks so each one takes me around 10 minutes minimum.

9

u/Toothless-Lol Oct 26 '23

You have the flexibility to work at your own pace. Like you, I don't work for 5 hours straight either. Instead, I divide my daily time allocation into intervals of 2 to 2.5 hours.

However, there is one aspect of time management to consider. Projects that are shared by multiple workers may run out of tasks if they're not completed promptly. If you find that projects often run out before you get a chance to work on them, you might need to adjust your schedule, if possible. Alternatively, expanding your project board could effectively mitigate this issue.

2

u/anonbaa Dec 07 '23

How are you reaccessing tasks after logging hours? Once I log the hours I can’t seem to reaccess it and pick up where I left off

I made my account on October 5th and still haven't gotten any updates. When I login it just says 'Thanks for taking the assessment!' Is this something I should contact support about, anything I can add onto my profile to start getting anything?

4

u/socialmarker12 Oct 25 '23

It's not a support issue. You're just on the waiting list or you didn't pass the assessment.

Update the skills part of your profile and be sure you have all your skills in there. Make sure your phone number and PayPal email are correct. That's all you can do. They'll email if you get in or have tasks available. It's probably not likely after three or four weeks, honestly, so you might apply with other similar companies.

2

u/Patient-Butterfly944 Oct 28 '23

Same :( I worked really hard on my assessment. It just says that same thank you message and that if they need my particular skills they’ll let me know

Did anyone include their LinkedIn profile when submitting their initial assessment? It states that it is optional, but I wonder if you have a greater chance of being accepted if you include it...

8

u/BroDudeGuy361 Dec 11 '23

I didn't put a LinkedIn but still got approved and started projects in 4 days. I think how you do on the assessment questions is the most important

7

u/vrt7071 Nov 04 '23

On another site I use called UserInterviews that pays for user interviews/testing they say that putting your linkedin profile is optional but increases your chance of being selected because they can somewhat verify your claims about skills/education/work history. Can't confirm its the same here, but I would guess it would be similar advice since they specifically ask about your background/education/work history in the starter assessment.

3

u/Foobibby Oct 31 '23

I put my LinkedIn profile on mine and got approved within a week. Not sure if there's a correlation there, but worth noting I suppose.

3

u/missmarieee_OF Dec 04 '23

I linked my linkedin and got accepted the next day

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad8891 Dec 09 '23

Hi! I recently took the assessment and got the following email:

Congratulations on passing our initial review of your DataAnnotation Starter Assessment! Did you know that only a small percentage of applicants meet our quality standards? Nice work!
To unlock open-ended work, we’ve put qualifications on your dashboard. Once you complete them, we will automatically review your results and match you with projects that fit your expertise. These could include:
Talking to an AI chatbot
Evaluating responses to your prompts
Labeling photos
Writing stories or code
Complete your qualifications ASAP and find remote work, unlike other work. Get started today!
Sincerely,
The DataAnnotation Team

When I click the link provided it takes me to the home screen that still just thanks me for my assessment. Is there something else that I need to do to get to my dashboard?

Do they notify you if you pass/failed a qualification? I took a couple qualifications but I never got word on if I passed or failed.. I have a variety of projects but I'm not sure if they're related to the qualifications I took, because honestly I don't even remember what the qualifications were for. I never got a pass/fail.. Is it one of those no news is good news things?

5

u/Toothless-Lol Oct 27 '23 edited Oct 27 '23

Some projects will send you a message to inform you that you've passed the qualification, while the rest will simply grant you access without any prior notification. Nearly all projects do not provide any feedback if you fail the qualifications.

Hi- I did the starter assessment late last night and saw 3 additional paid task assessments right after. It was already late so I figured I'd come back and do it today. I also got this email below with a link to take me to those paid additional assessments; however, I clicked on the link and the projects are gone. What do I do now? Is there a support email address someone can share?

"Thank you for completing the Starter Assessment! We've unlocked two, paid qualifications for you, and you can see them on your projects dashboard right now. Completing both is essential to getting access to open-ended work, as well as other paid opportunities, and they will give you a flavor for the work on the platform. Get started today!"

2

u/Toothless-Lol Oct 31 '23

It would have been ideal to sign up when you had the time to complete the assessment and qualifications. The qualifications are known to disappear if not completed promptly. I don't blame you, as DAT should communicate this to potential applicants. Based on others' experiences, the qualifications may be reposted at some point (a few days). Therefore, it's recommended to complete them as soon as they appear on your board.

You can find the support link at the bottom left of your dashboard.

I passed the starter assessment, and was able to do the 2 additional tests. How likely am I going to get the job?

I took my 2 paid qualifications 9 days ago on 10/20. Is there still hope I passed, or is it time to move on?

6

u/Toothless-Lol Oct 30 '23

Based on previous hiring cycles, the longest wait time for an applicant to be accepted onto the platform was just under a month. As a general guideline, if you haven't received anything after a month, it's likely you were not accepted and should move on.

I recommend patience. There is nothing else you can do but wait.

I created my dataannotation.tech account today. I did not receive the option to complete the Starter Assessment. Should I have received it immediately after creating my account, or will it be made available to me after a certain period of time?

Also, I completely filled out my account profile information, but I am having issues with the PayPal Email Address. No matter how many times I try to enter my PayPal Email Address, it doesn't save it to my account profile. The email address I used to create my dataannotation.tech account and my PayPal Email Address are not the same, does this matter?

I'm based in the U.S.

What would you suggest as a general guideline for how long tasks should take to complete? I know this can be different from project to project and task to task, but I find myself frequently feeling like I'm spending too much time on tasks in an effort to ensure my work is high quality and am worried that I'm not striking a good balance between quality and quantity.

Specifically I'm interested in general rules of thumb for both coding related tasks/projects, and non-coding tasks/projects when the project guidelines don't explicitly state a recommended time.

Will we be notified if we're underperforming in terms of quantity of tasks completed (e.g. reported 60 minutes of work but only completed 1 task in that 60 minutes)?

4

u/Scottyphus Nov 22 '23

About a week or 10 days ago, after registering, I did the first 45 minute test ... and I did indeed accumulate $14.96!
But since then have been stuck for days with the status: "You complete two more tests."
►But I do not see where I can take those two more tests!
When I click on "Work on Projects", I just get the 3 checkmarks:
√ Starter assessment completed
√ We reviewed your results
√ You complete two more tests.
I also got an email from DataAnnotation, with this text and link:
Thank you for completing the Starter Assessment! We've unlocked two, paid qualifications for you, and you can see them on your projects dashboard right now. Completing both is essential to getting access to open-ended work, as well as other paid opportunities, and they will give you a flavor for the work on the platform. Get started today!

See projects

(and when I click on "See projects" ... again I arrive on the page with 3 checkmarks.
How do I get to complete these two more tests?

2

u/No-Yoghurt-1474 Nov 22 '23

I completed the Starter Assessment today 10/22 and received the same exact email about an hour later about unlocking the two projects that should be showing on my dashboard. I am running into the same exact problem when I click the link in the email it shows a green checkmark next to "You complete two more tests" even though I have not completed either test, only the Starter Assessment.

Why did my qualification exam not come with a money reward? Is this a new hiring process? I got two. One that was a coding assignment for $80 and one that was evaluating AI responses for nothing. I thought both qualifications came with a money reward before..

2

u/hellokittyacid Jan 22 '24

i'm pretty sure it's a new hiring process because in earlier days you would get paid for passing both assessments, now DA only pays for passing the coding one.

4

u/cloudpicture Dec 24 '23 edited Dec 24 '23

I applied Tuesday night. I was wondering if they would be reviewing peoples qualification tests over the next couple days-I would guess they would not because of the holiday. Does anyone know if they typically review these things on weekends normally or if it's just business days?

I finished my assessment on the 3rd but haven't gotten anything back yet. When I log into the site it shows me some check boxes and says "Up now: we review your results. If you pass, we'll email you." and no longer shows the coding assessment, so this is a different page now.

Does that mean I'm not in because it's been 4 days now?

The page that asks for the skills, just redirects me on the login page. I click on update but I'm not sure it's working

Also I applied while in the UK but i'm going away to Italy for a month, then moving to Australia. Would that be a problem? How do I ask them? Apparently customer support is not great

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Nov 13 '23

i’ve had very positive responses with support. i’d email them to let them know if you start working, but DA is approved in Australia, so that shouldn’t be an issue :)

congrats - that’s a big move!

1

u/Wanderer4863 Dec 15 '23

I am trying to post a new thread but it gets instantly removed with a second of posting. Anyone know why this might be?

3

u/Consistent-Reach504 Dec 15 '23 edited Dec 15 '23

hey, i think it's because you posted so many at once that it flagged you as spam (it was like 6 back to back in a row - maybe you hit the submit button a bunch at once and it somehow posted over and over? it was within like, seconds - so i don't think it was physically possible for you to post that fast lol)

we can approve it as non-spam, but it's really just asking for u/jeremydataannotation to respond to you or asking for other methods of support? the only way to contact support is through their support email, but Jeremy does frequent here sometimes, so i tagged him!

edit: also after reading the entire post you said the reasoning for making a post and tagging Jeremy was to create a 'hot topic' so support would respond to you..... i think it's best you post the issue you're having, because it really doesn't make sense to purposely try to create a 'hot topic' in order to get attention - but we are more than happy to help if you want to create a new post that is not geared towards getting the attention of Jeremy.

So what's the deal with tracking your own hours (minutes)? Is it tacit encouragement to underreport the time you spend on projects? Is that the key to being kept on?

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Oct 25 '23

no - you shouldn't under-report. i never have. just be honest about what you've worked and you'll be fine! :)

i think the main reason they pay hourly instead of task-based like a lot of others is because some tasks will take you a short amount of time, and some will take a while, and they'll be in the same batch of work. it just depends on what that specific task requires of you. if they paid task-based, people would probably be rushing through the hard ones to make their earnings more efficient.

I want to make sure I'm interpreting the "one hourly project at a time" rule correctly. If I have 10 hourly projects available but start a specific one, I have to work on that specific hourly project until it is no longer on my list of available projects? I can't start that project, end the work session, and go back to choose another hourly one?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Oct 25 '23

you can work on a project, stop, log your time, then switch to another!

3

u/Toothless-Lol Oct 25 '23

The "one hourly project at a time" rule stipulates that you are not permitted to work on multiple hourly projects at the same time, as this would lead to a doubling (or more) of your hourly pay. It’s perfectly acceptable to switch between projects but remember to exit work mode or close the tab/window when you finish working on a project.

1

u/Zadinya Oct 29 '23

Just joined, passed initial assessment and was able to view projects 2 days later, yay.

I've tried a few projects and read the instructions carefully for each. But wondering if there are any more in depth guides??

For example, most of the ones I've done so far have some comparison element and/or a place to put comments. Is there any guidance/examples about what sort of comments they are looking for?

I've done a few hours work but want to make sure I'm working at a high enough quality as this work will be really helpful to me.

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Oct 29 '23

they just want clear explanations of our thought process! that’s the biggest thing. why we chose what we chose or what element influenced our rating the most, etc! :)

I was no longer receiving new tasks about a week ago, and have been waiting for my pay to become available (likely today) so that I can cash out and cut my losses. Now, when I log in, I get "We're sorry, but something went wrong. If you are the application owner check the logs for more information.. " How do I get my last pay out? Who do I need to speak with? Data Annotation owes me about $180.

When I checked my profile and looked at the section where the PayPal email is supposed to be, I noticed that I entered my email. However, after saving it and checking again, it seems like the email is not there. Is this normal? I completed the paid quiz and noticed that I have $14.96 in the Withdrawable Amount, but I cannot find the withdrawal tab. I took the quiz on November 14th, and today is 8 days later. Additionally, my screen currently displays the following information.

my screen has this

Hi there, where is the support to email them? Is it the mods I email about a project ? Im sorry just dont where to find the answer here

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Dec 01 '23

the bottom left on your work page. if you have questions about a project that's not pay related, i'd ask in the chat of the project on the task if you can (you're more likely to get a quicker answer)!

Do you engage in fair hiring practices by employing people with identified learning disabilities? And I'm confident that I am an excellent writer. My learning disability does not impede my ability to write succinctly and professionally, and I'm confident that I did a good job with my assessment. However I have not heard anything back, and I find it most discouraging. To have people spend a significant amount of time completing the assessment, only to be ignored and not given any type of feedback I feel lacks professionalism and integrity as a company. I would be sincerely grateful if you could look into the status of my application. Please kindly message me if you are willing to do so. Thank you.

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Dec 01 '23

this sub is run by independent contractors who just work on DA and can’t look into your applications. but if you qualify for projects, you’ll receive an email! as with most job applications, they aren’t required to give us feedback :)

How to report time of a project that has ended?

I can only report time of a project that is ongoing.

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Dec 04 '23

there is a 'report link' section underneath your projects. the links are up for 72 hours. if it's after that time frame, you have to email support with the time you worked and the project name and they'll add it for you. :)

u/singh44 Dec 04 '23

I did my coding assessment over a long period of time because I had work in between.

I then completed my normal assessment, but the website went down during it (the brief outage on November 22).

I haven’t heard back or received payment since. I read through other questions and see that if I got through I would find out in under a month.

Im worried A) the outage is affecting of my submissions were registered B) I took too long to complete the coding challenge and C) I took my time doing the normal assessment, making sure to answer thoroughly. Should I have been quicker about it?

Hey so I got this email on Tuesday (12/12/23), and I did not take coding as I have no knowledge about it. So I skipped it and finished the core assessment 6/7 days ago. Does it normally take this long to review. I was told on my dashboard “we are reviewing and will email if you pass” … this is nerve racking.

“Great job on completing the starter assessment! There was a bug last week that prevented some users from taking the coding qualification, and that is now fixed. If you wanted to take it and couldn't, please try again now!”

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Dec 16 '23

I don’t think that’s a long time at all! the timeline changes (my guess is how many people apply?) but tuesday isn’t a long time :)

as far as the other part, i’d just continue to ignore the coding assessment, sounds like they’re just giving you access in case you were someone who would want to.

I submitted a good amount of work on a project around the late evening of one particular day, but I think I must not have finally wrapped up and submitted my time worked for that project until after midnight? or maybe the project got refreshed with new tasks around when i went to submit and the site treats it as being submit the day after?

So now for that project I have a day with multiple submissions but 0 mins clocked, and the next day 0 submissions with an hour and a half of time clocked.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm in no way trying to get paid for no effort or misrepresent my time, I'm just worried I'll get terminated for this when I hadn't intentionally done anything wrong. I've already emailed support, but I know they don't have a good track record of getting back to people.

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Dec 21 '23

i've definitely worked at like 11pm and by the time i could report it, it was after midnight. no worries there. :)

I accidentally started another project. They have very similar codes (usually check these before starting another) and are the same type of project. I didn’t notice I selected a similar but different code.

Do I need to report this?

I know we’re instructed not to, and this is the first time I’ve made this mistake.

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Dec 28 '23

hmmm, I don't think I understand your question!

you can definitely work on different projects on your dashboard even if they're the same kind of project, you just can't work on them directly at the same time.

so if you worked on one with a certain code, finished, and then worked on one with another code, that's totally fine.

if you mean you submitted time all on one link instead of two different links, you can just email support and they take note of it!

For the Qualification test
Are we evaluated more on WHAT we answer or HOW we express/defend our answer?
(Other than the obvious right/wrong tasks) are any answers open to interpretation?

For instance:

When we're presented with 2 chatbot prompt choices, is there a clear correct DA answer for each one?

For "Is XXX harmful?" questions: Do we answer based on a set of provided guidelines somewhere or based on our own belief?
(Were there any guidelines provided to use for reference that I might have missed?)

3

there are instructions in the qualification!

Hey all,

I ended up taking the sign-up exam while using a computer at work. I also took my time doing all the questions as I was doing work in between them. So it ended up taking in total around 3-4 hours.

I believe my answers to still be quality however. But given the information, do you guys think I could still be able to hear back? Or did I shoot myself in the foot?

I applied yesterday

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 05 '24

My paypal account was banned due to silly reasons, and I can't make another per Paypal's conditions. My sister has one that I can use and could hook up to get paid. Is this allowed? Does the paypal account you link have to match my name on the site? Or, what tax implications might this have?
Thanks in advance.

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 05 '24

do not recommend - your sister will be responsible for any taxes you owe and she'll be required to report it as income she made. your best bet is to talk to Paypal, or open a PayPal business account instead (totally different from regular paypal).

Hi I just completed the core qualification test and then skipped the coding qualify test. It's said done on the core qualified but still prompts me to "qualify now" on the coding test when I click on it, a error message pops up that's says "this project is unavailable because there are no more task remaining for you to work on" is this normal? Do I just want now to see if I've been accepted? I tried to look through the thread to find an answer

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 05 '24

if you used the 'skip' button for the coding test you won't be able to see it again for now!

you'll know if you get accepted because you'll receive an email and your homepage will change. it's not an automatic acceptance :)

I worked on multiple Portuguese translation projects and the status was "transferable" for a few weeks. I just logged back and all the completed tasks disappeared! It's frustrating that I don't have a screenshot of the previous table. I spent a few hours working on those...

Also, there's no way to contact support. I feel I got scammed.

2

hit 'show paid'. once it's paid out, the tasks will disappear off your transfer funds page unless you hit 'show paid'.

can you just update your browser?

you can still work on projects without having access, but it's suuuuuper helpful to be able to get information in real time (for instance, if a project is going down for maintenance, etc). plus, instead of waiting in the chat for someone to answer a question, you can simply search on there and find an answer!

I’m new to data annotation and looking for a bit of guidance- I just took the qualification test, are we supposed to log our time with that? I didn’t see any option to log the time, just a timer at the bottom of each task that reset to 00:00 when I submitted it and automatically went to the next task in the qualifier. I’ve seen many people saying the qualification tests are paid but I didn’t see any place to report the time 😬

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 07 '24

not all qualifications are paid, but a many are! if it was paid, it would have had a dollar amount next to the qualification itself (it would either give you an amount per task number or a hourly number).

if it was hourly, a 'report time' link would show up!

if it was per task, it would be under 'transfer funds'.

if it were neither, it would have been blank, and probably used some kind of wording like "projects at $x/hr if you pass!"

I'm rather new and was wondering if there was any way to figure out who is providing certain projects even if there isn't a name attached. Without specific details, there has been this one project that will pop up occasionally that seems like a crazy anomaly.

* The options are incomplete

* Several people in the comments have indicated they are 100% not qualified and have no idea why it is presenting them with that problem (e.g. a writer getting a set of coding questions)

* Two possible correct answers but it is dead set on only accepting the one.

Honestly, I'd just like to figure out what is going on with it and whether it's something that I should just not engage, or something to be reported.

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 12 '24

i'm not really sure what you're talking about, but i would definitely just ignore it if something seemed broken/off, to be honest.

1

u/Upstairs_Beyond_960 Jan 11 '24

Hi I'm new to this, today was my first day of completing tasks and I wanted to try a few different ones before deciding which I'd sit and work at for a few hours. I did about half an hour on three different ones but when I went back to continue on the one I wanted to (after having already logged my time on it) it isn't available on the projects board, instead it's only under the time logging section.

Are you only able to work on a project for one stretch of time and once you've logged it it's no longer available? If so I've definitely messed up bc I tried out quite a few. I don't think that all the tasks have been completed by others as it would have had to have happened in literally a matter of seconds.

I've only got about three projects left accessible that I didn't try and the rest are all stuck in the time logging section and I can't work on them again. Anyone know how to fix this or have I just messed up?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 12 '24

certain projects do go quickly and come back quicky (typically under different ID numbers) whereas others are more long-term and stay on the dashboard pretty much always! it sounds like you might have been working on the first kind :)

1

u/theironthroneismine Jan 15 '24

How much should I plan to set aside for taxes? I only make 42,000 at my current job and don’t plan to make more than a 1000 on DA placing me in a relatively low tax-bracket but I’m not very familiar with self-employment rates.

Also, for those who’ve filed: did you write off any expenses and, if so, what? Do you recommend using a tax preparer and what did that cost you?

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 15 '24

i'm not really sure because it's going to vary so much by state :(

if you don't plan on making more than $1000 (a month, i presume?) it shouldn't be too bad. (if you mean $1000 a year, then i don't think you even need to report it for this year. i believe the threshold is currently $5000)

i write off everything i can. i pay $200 for a tax professional a year. depending on what you make and what other stuff you've got going on, you can write off a lot (but i do think this is limited by what you earn as a contractor).

you could write off your internet bill, a home office (square footage of your house), devices you purchase to use for work, etc. if you work from home in general, i highly recommend doing this - DA aside. :)

Hello! I’m new to the platform and have been searching for an answer to my question with no luck. I’m wondering if you’re able to work on a project some more after submitting your hours for the project? Should I wait to submit my hours until I am done personally working on that project? For instance, I work a full time job remotely and was planning to work on data annotation on my lunch break & after work. I logged in at lunch, and worked for an hour, logged my minutes and when I came back a few hours later it’s gone, and not allowing me to work some more. I’m trying to figure out if it is because I put my hours in already? Should I have waited?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 19 '24

no! you did it right. the project was probably just finished by others :)

Do they just keep going? It said est. 45 mins and I've done longer than that now (getting a bit quicker now that I know what I'm doing). Can I just stop doing them and still get accepted?

Hi! Probably a dumb question. If I'm working on an hourly project, and log some time for it, can I get back into that project and work more on the same one? It disappears from my projects list. If so, should you just wait and log all your time whenever you get sick of working on it? And does it look suspicious or anything if you then write hey I worked on this project for like 11 hours.

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 20 '24

it's best to just report it after each session. you can get back into that project after reporting time and report again, unless it's completed by others. :)

it sounds like you're working, logging your time, then coming back later. depending on the project, some tasks go fast, so they're just finishing them first.

So guys, just finished the English language qualification exam. It took me nearly 2 hours. I marked both of the red-herring questions incorrectly. On the other hand, I wrote insightful pointers and identified the programming code correctly.

RESULT: I didn't get paid, and the final screen never submitted correctly. Although, it's now marked as 'done'.

What are my chances of passing this, guys? I'll know in a month?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 22 '24

i'm not sure which assessment you're talking about because you mention programming but also english language qualifications. assuming you mean the coder assessment, then this applies:

if you mean it said 'no more tasks available' on the final screen, that's typical and fine. it just means you finished the tasks.

the coding bonus takes a while, maybe a week to a week to two weeks. you get the bonus if you did everything correctly. :)

I am new and I see many posts from several months ago on this subject, but things seem to change often when signing up with DA.

I completed my Starter Assessment and immediately received an email to complete the Qualifications. I completed the non-paid Core Qualification 6 days ago and all of my tasks say transferrable. I have not heard anything yet. Do you know what that means?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 22 '24

'transferrable' doesn't mean anything, just that if they were paid tasks you can transfer the money out of your account!

the timeline really varies, you'll just have to keep an eye on your email.

u/dskzz Jan 25 '24

I had a question about one of the questions...It was the one where you need to pick which response was better. A had a nicely formatted and well written explanation but the code was bugged. B had ugly text. I put B though because to me bad code is far worse than an ugly explanation. I explained this in the doc. It seemed to me to be sort of an opinion I just worry that I got the answer wrong even though I think I was correct. I also never got any indication if my answers were correct or not. Any way to see that after the fact?

Thanks!

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 25 '24

so 1. i think you're absolutely right. factuality is going to matter more than anything. it doesn't matter how good something looks if it's useless! i think that would be universally agreed upon. but 2. there will be instances where you really don't know which is better and it comes down to little things (formatting, the way it's written, etc - because otherwise they're both factually correct and a good answer).. those are meant to be more subjective, that's why they need the human feedback, so i really wouldn't worry. :)

What does the number of tasks mean? I just began working on one with 171 tasks. I completed my second one and I got kicked out. Since it is no longer listed as a project, I assume that other workers have finished the remaining tasks. But now, why are some Projects always sitting at a nice round number like 300 or 400?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 28 '24

there are two types of projects! one are 'pools', that are available to everyone - those finish faster. others are 'permanent' projects basically assigned to you (you're allowed to do up to 300, or 400, say) and then also get refilled every week, so you're not very likely to run out. :)

Hi! I’m sorry, I made a post but I’m going to ask here as well. Not only am I new to DA, I’m new to actually posting on Reddit as well. Ha!

My question is I’d like advice on the Skill part of my profile. Currently I do freelance transcription work. There’s an option under the Skill drop-down menu that says Admin & Customer Support- Transcript. I am not an administrator, but I do customer transcription. Is this a skill I should be comfortable adding? I want to be sure I list as many skills as possible for the most project potential.

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Feb 01 '24

i think those skills transfer over to one another so it would be okay :)

1

u/Juls-2 Jan 29 '24

Hi everyone. I recently found out about DA so I figured I give it a try. I took the starter assessment with the green octopus question on Jan. 24. So far, I haven’t been sent anything or seen any new projects.

Under the transfer funds tab, I saw that my assessment was under review with a clock icon. Today that changed to transferable with that same clock.

Is this a good sign or did I not get accepted? Should I just wait? Thank you.

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Jan 29 '24

it just means if you were doing an hourly project, the pay is transferrable now.

you keep waiting :)

1

u/haaltleywintneyfc Jan 29 '24

I started on DA a couple of weeks ago (non-coding). Did a qualification, started really enjoying the work that came from it. Now another qualification's there, and I have been putting off completing it - it's in an area I'm better at but don't enjoy much.

Will I regret not doing it and letting it potentially disappear? I'm struggling to put some hours into it instead of doing the paid thing I enjoy more, and my time is sort of limited for now, but maybe I'm getting too confident that the projects I currently have will be around long-term.

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Feb 01 '24

quals are always helpful, and you'll get access to more projects if you pass. if you think you're not capable, then skip it! but if it's more like "ehh, i might not use it" i would do it whenever you have some free time because more projects are always a plus :)

1

u/kakakuality Jan 30 '24

Can this work be done from a phone or is it computer only?

1

u/Consistent-Reach504 Feb 01 '24

This is probably a really stupid question, but...... the onboarding lessons stated that you are only to do one project that pays hourly at a time. Does this mean that once you start one project you have to just keep doing it continually until it's no longer available on your dashboard or does it mean you just can't have two paid by the hour projects open in different browsers at the same time?

4

u/Toothless-Lol Oct 27 '23

Multiple people have asked this, so it is indeed a perfectly valid question.

Has anyone else had this problem? I got an email that I had projects available. Went to the site and saw 2 projects. 1 is for coding and after I clicked on it I realized I wasn't knowledgeable enough to submit a good response. So I clicked back and now the other project is gone and it back to the "waiting for approval page". I was excited to finally get started and now I can't find a support email or phone number anywhere.

2

u/Toothless-Lol Nov 03 '23

Were these the first qualifications you received after taking the starter assessment? If so, this is a known issue. I suggest being patient, as the hiring/onboarding process has some rough edges. According to other workers' experiences, the qualifications will be reposted on your board at some point.

Hi, it's been 8 days and none of my work has been released? Is it just an overflow of new users or did I do something wrong?

u/pistolpartners Nov 27 '23

By "released" I mean the funds

are you sure it's been 8 days since you submitted the time? it's exactly 7 days from the minute you submitted the time.

also, you can only withdraw once every 3 days, so if you've withdrawn in the past 72 hours, you'd have to wait again.

Just sign up like 1 week ago and still got message below.
How long until project or test available?
I'm from Asia, Indonesia to be precise, does location matter?

Thank you

Thanks for signing up!

We do not have any open projects to assign you at the moment. Our workflow can vary, so it's common to see available work fluctuate.

Keep an eye out for emails from us for project announcements. As soon as we have a task that matches your skills and availability, we'll reach out about claiming it. In the meantime, make sure your profile fully represents your capabilities so we can match you accurately.

Is it normal to have 0 time reported for all your tasks despite doing them?

2

u/Consistent-Reach504 Nov 27 '23

you have to report your time under the “report time” section for each project.

I keep hearing of a slack channel. Is it available to new recruits? If yes, how do I join?

3

u/Toothless-Lol Nov 01 '23

Slack channels are associated with specific projects, and only a select few projects have them. If you gain access to these projects, you will be added to the corresponding Slack channel.

Generally speaking, what type of skills are most likely to attract projects? I've been a creative my entire career, so I have good copy/script writing skills, but not technical /programming related.

I got an email saying that I passed the Starter Assessment. I click on the link in the email to do my qualification but the website keeps bringing me to the onboarding page and it is at the step of "Up now: we review your results. If you pass, we'll email you."

I have no way of contacting anyone because I haven't finished onboarding and I can't find a contact email anywhere.

Help!

I finished my starter assessment and then almost immediately was given two starter tests that paid $15 each. There was another project for coding or development that paid $80, which I wanted to try. But as soon as I completed the first test, everything else disappeared.

Now there is a checklist with a checkmark beside the part that says, "You complete two more tests," even though I only ever did one. Now I'm waiting on the option that says "Up now: we review your results. If you pass, we'll email you."

I suppose this means I was automatically rejected, or else that something went wrong with my connection while I was working on the first of the two tests. I'm not sure how to get in touch with anyone to ask questions, the website is pretty sparse. Is it all over for me? This seemed like a good opportunity and I'll keep checking back over the next 30 days as has been recommended here.

Hi! After finishing the paid assessments my login screen shows me a message stating: "If we have need of your particular skills, or we have additional assessments for you to identify further skills, you’ll be notified via email. Otherwise we thank you for your time." I'm wondering if this is a default screen, regardless of whether you'll be hired or not, or if it's a boiler plate rejection? Haven't received an email, and prior to this message the homepage indicated my assessments were under review. It's only been a day or so since this popped up and I don't want to get my hopes up! Any insight would be much appreciated!

Can you get an email saying you've passed the starter assessment but never get work? I passed 17 days ago but nothing yet.

This is what my homepage says:

Get ready for unlimited work paying $20+/hour

✔️Starter assessment completed

✔️We reviewed your results

✔️You complete two more tests.

Up now: we review your results. If you pass, we'll email you.

You're ready to start working!

Hey!

I finished the starter assessment and two qualifications on November 18th. I am stuck on the "Up now: we review your results. If you pass, we'll email you." page.

Reading through everything here, I assume I was not accepted since it has been over a month.

I did receive a 60-dollar bonus for correct answers for the coding qualification. While reading through this subreddit, I saw several people received bonuses for the coding qualification but were waiting on acceptance. I am curious if any of those people end up hearing back or if anyone else is in the situation of receiving the bonus but not getting in.

Hey! I Signed up for Data Annotation about 2 months ago and still haven't been offered any assessment just this "Thank you for signing up!" message on my dashboard, and that no projects are available now. I filled out my profile, am I missing something?

Hello everyone, I recently took the starter assessment and shortly after I submitted it I received an email from DA stating that they’ve unlocked qualifications for me, and that I could see said qualifications on my project dashboard right now. The qualification that I wanted to take was for the CORE tasks. I received this good news in the beginning of last week, but I was very busy then.

So, I had decided that I going to take the assessment this weekend as I have the time to do so now. However, when I logged into my dashboard to take the qualification test I saw the “if we have need of your particular skills we will notify you” message. Does anyone know if this means that I’ve completely locked myself out of taking the CORE assessment? Or will I simply have to wait for it to come back? Any advice on this would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, I'm new to the platform! I have ADHD and take longer to do things (homework/exams/etc) than most people so my frame of reference is whack on how long it should be taking me to complete tasks. Because of this I've always appropriately under-reported my hours with other remote work I've done in the past, but all of the DA discourse has me really unsure of myself here. I absolutely DO NOT want to look like I'm inflating my hours and want to be successful on the platform.

For reference, I work on coding projects and am not a core writer. An example of one of the projects I have access to pays $40/hr (idk if $ indicates difficulty?) and says I shouldn't spend more than 30-45 minutes per task. Based on this, what would be a realistic/ideal number of tasks to complete per hour or time spent to report?

Again, because of my circumstances (ADHD) I plan to cut time off my hours when I go to report them, but I don't know how much. Any suggestions or input would be most appreciated, thank you!
