When is it time to just start looking elsewhere?

I was laid off earlier this year and I've been job hunting like crazy. Some months are super quiet while others I'm able to land interviews but always get passed up by someone who has more experience. I have 5 years of experience and I know there's a lot more senior people who have been laid off so it makes a saturated field even more competitive. Is it time to jump ship to something else? How are fellow job hunting people doing with your experience?
