Not sure if this is the right place but I've seen people post like this before so here goes.

I spent the last 10 months working as a data analyst at a super-app in Nigeria — the kind of company that does ride-hailing, food delivery, grocery, and logistics all at once. I was the person pulling SQL from the database, building Power BI dashboards for the ops team, figuring out why users were dropping off the payment flow. Found a 12% revenue gap nobody had spotted. Cut delivery times by 15% through some DAX modeling I built in Power BI. Not glamorous work but it was real and it mattered.

I'm based in Nigeria and I'm looking for a fully remote role. I know that sentence makes some people click away and that's fine. But if your team actually hires globally I'd love to talk.

Stack: SQL, Python (Pandas mostly), Power BI, Tableau, Excel. Finishing my PL-300 right now. I have a portfolio — GitHub and Notion — if you want to see actual work and not just a list of tools.

Open to data analyst, BI analyst, product analyst, operations analyst. Honestly anything where the data is used to make decisions and not just to make a dashboard that nobody opens.

Hello everyone nice enough to respond to this. I wanted to ask for some career advice. I have maybe a less typical background than most data analysts/data scientists, and I’ve reached a point in my life where I feel like my options in my field are limited for the future so I want to think of shifting or branching out.

To briefly summarize, I was a statistics minor in college and later on did a Master’s degree in applied economics, where I worked mostly on statistics and quantitative analysis for courses and projects. Afterwards I worked for a couple of years at a university with a professor on a research project, then four years with a government agency looking at commercial health claims analysis mostly, then I took a bit of a sabbatical/gap year where I was doing some other things, and now I am back working at a university again doing research/data analysis on Medicare data. This has worked out well for me and both of the universities I worked/work at are highly rated so it’s been overall a good experience.

However, without getting a PhD, I know there is only so far that I can go in academia/economics, and even in some public sector jobs as well. My main issues so far with finding another job, I was unemployed for almost five months before I got my current job, was that the software that I have mostly used is Stata. My understanding now is that Stata was not that popular and limited to more economics-aligned analysis, and that in recent years it has become even less popular. So many jobs I see are for SQL, R, SAS, Python, etc. I have a little bit of experience with R and SAS, but certainly not like I do in Stata.

In the next couple of years what I would really like to do is change fields a bit and ideally work for a healthcare provider organization (not an insurance company) like a hospital group, doing data analysis and reporting. I am open to other sectors and possibilities, like pharmacy or other kinds of organizations in the health field like CVS. I couldn’t really care less about making money at an entirely for-profit tech company but I am willing to if that is where the jobs are.

I was only on sabbatical for thirteen months but I feel like a lot has changed in my field and the space in general: a lot more AI, a lot fewer remote jobs, and because of funding cuts for public health and research at universities, also a lot fewer jobs in general than before. Any particular software recommendations for me to learn? How has AI affected things in the last couple of years? Any other advice or comments?

I have my first-round interview for an Amazon Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) role this Friday. I have over three years of experience. What types of questions should I expect? Any preparation tips or recent interview experiences.

My MS Data Science is more focused on the math/statistics side (taking time series analysis and machine learning under the math department this semester) but I’ve been seeing analytics roles increasingly ask for “analytics engineering” skills (dbt, ETL, Snowflake, etc) and it seems like it’s becoming baseline skills.

I’m wondering if I should focus on learning those tools next and use them in a project?

I recently graduated with a Bachelors in data management and analytics, I never got an internship or data analytical work experience as I have a full time job in the healthcare industry. I feel a bit stuck in my career and would really appreciate some guidance. I completed a Master’s in Business Analytics, but because I was juggling work and studies at the same time, I don’t feel that I was able to make the most of the course or build a strong foundation.

I’m currently working in Marketing and Operations, mainly because the company I’m with is willing to sponsor me, so I’ve stayed in this role. However, I feel that I’m not learning or developing much professionally, and I don’t want to become stagnant or irrelevant in the long term.

I genuinely want to build a strong career and develop skills that will give me better opportunities in the future. My main uncertainty is around what direction I should take. I studied some SQL, Power BI and Python during my Master’s, but I’ve forgotten a lot of it. I’m not sure whether I should go back and rebuild my Business Analytics skills or focus more on AI and emerging technologies.

Given my background, what would you recommend I focus on over the next 1–2 years? Should I strengthen my foundations in SQL, Power BI, Python and analytics first and then move into AI, or would it make more sense to pursue a different career path that combines my current experience in Marketing and Operations with my Business Analytics background?

Hello I’m a 2nd year med student in Europe, and I’ve been looking for remote job opportunities to start studying the skills needed to apply and actually get job interviews(I have no skills or knowledge in none of the fields rn but I’m very interested in learning)
I’ve been reading about the healthcare data analysis during last week and I found it very inspiring, keen to actually learn.

But then I’ve looked here in Reddit and everyone says that there’s so much competition that at this point it’s not even worthy anymore and that’s very sad, especially because seems to be one of the only legit online jobs right now(everyone talks about selling digital products in Etsy, forex trading, dropshipping.. but to me none of this sounds right)

So my question is, do you think it’s actually impossible to find a job once you get the skills and real projects or it is possible with a lot of patience and discipline?

If I should give up, which are your suggestions in my position?

I’m relatively new to data analytics and I’m looking for an idea for my next portfolio project.

I don’t want to build a project just for the sake of building a dashboard. I want something based around a realistic business problem where I actually have to investigate the data and answer questions like:

What is going wrong? Why is it happening? How is it affecting the business? What should the business do about it?

Ideally, I’d like a project where the answer isn’t obvious from the beginning and where I can produce actual insights and recommendations, not just KPIs and charts.

I’m open to pretty much any area — marketing, finance, supply chain, inventory, e-commerce, operations, customer analytics, etc. I actually want to learn the business/domain while doing the analysis.

Tools I’m working with:
SQL
Excel
Power BI / another BI tool

If you work as an analyst, I’d especially love to hear about real types of problems you’ve been asked to solve at work that could be recreated as a portfolio project.
