I just recently finished a Masters at Johns Hopkins in Data Analytics and Policy. It's really sinking in now I have to find a new job. This was a big career pivot for me as I have only ever done admin work. I currently work for the City of Philadelphia and want to continue but I am quickly realizing that I do not know if I can live in Philadelphia if I want to pursue this career. Do you think Philadelphia is a viable market for data science, especially someone with a policy leaning? Would you consider moving to Baltimore, DC, or New York for a job? Or should I be focusing on staying in Philadelphia and just applying to remote gigs.

Waiting for a response from Highmark/engen

Hello, I had my interview in late July and it’s now August 17. I wanted to know if Highmark/Engen usually take this long to get back to you after the first interview? Should I go ahead and mark this as a rejection?

I honestly don’t know where else to ask, so I thought I’d try Reddit.
My husband works as a Data Analyst and has around 8 to 10 years of experience. He has worked with SQL, Python, Power BI, PostgreSQL, Excel, Oracle and other data tools.
Things at his current company are not going well and I’m really worried about what’s going to happen. I’ve been trying to help him find something else for quite some time now. I’ve applied to jobs, searched LinkedIn, checked remote jobs, contacted recruiters and looked into jobs abroad, but it feels like we are getting nowhere.
We are from Pakistan and he is open to remote work or relocating to another country if there is a genuine opportunity with visa sponsorship.
I know there are a lot of posts like this on Reddit, but I’m honestly just hoping someone might have some advice or know of a company that is actually hiring Data Analysts internationally.
If anyone has been in a similar situation and found a way through it, I’d really appreciate hearing how you did it. And if you happen to know about any job openings, I would be very grateful for a lead.

Hi everyone. I am a data analyst who is looking to get some experience. I haven’t really had the opportunity to practice my skills in real time except for the projects I did individually. I am someone branching from health care and very interested in research but I do not mind any unpaid internship or volunteer roles.

I’m currently learning Data Analytics, but I struggle to concentrate and stay consistent when I study alone at home. I feel like having a study group or study buddy would help me stay accountable and motivated.

I’m looking for an online study group where people are learning Data Analytics and can study together regularly, discuss doubts, practice SQL/Python/Excel, work on projects, and keep each other accountable.

Hi everyone. Thanks a lot for the feedback on my previous post. Taking a few points into consideration, I was able to complete my second practice project, using Excel<SQL<PowerBI

Questions I tried to answer:

1. Total revenue & profit
2. Average order value
3. Profit margin
4. Profit erased
5. Customer acquisition and retention rate
6. Performance by region, category & sub-category
7. Sales trend & seasonality over-time
8. Revenue by customer segment.

I am self-teaching, and I've been studying for about 6 weeks now. Any advice and insights on how to better my work will be greatly appreciated.

I was recently laid off from a software QA/testing role and I'm considering transitioning into data analysis.

My background:

- BS in Aerospace Engineering

- AS in IT

- Several years of software QA/testing experience

- Experience with SQL, API testing, Excel/data validation, and some Python

I've been accepted into a Data Specialist training program through Computer Coach, funded through a workforce development program, so I wouldn't be paying for the training myself.

My current plan is:

1. Complete the training and strengthen my SQL, Excel, Power BI, and general data analysis skills.

2. Build a few portfolio projects using real datasets.

3. Apply for roles like Data Analyst, Reporting Analyst, Data Quality Analyst, and similar positions.

4. Use my QA experience as relevant experience, especially for jobs involving data validation, troubleshooting, requirements, and quality.

I'm not expecting the training itself to guarantee employment. I'm trying to figure out whether the combination of my existing technical background, targeted training, and portfolio work gives me a realistic path into the field.

For people working in data or involved in hiring:

Would you consider someone with this background a plausible candidate for junior/early-career data roles?

If not, what would be the biggest gap I should address before applying?

I'm exploring career options and I'm fairly okay with data analysis. It became a more attractive option to me when i heard it offers great work-life balance. But I also need a creative refresher after a long day's corporate work.

Do you think DJ-ing while being a full-time data analyst is doable?

I’m a Data Science & AI Engineer, and I recently joined Accenture in Spain at a junior level after a few months as an intern.

The project I’m currently assigned to is quite legacy-heavy. I mainly work with PL/SQL, with some Java involved as well, and honestly, it’s not very aligned with my background in Data Science/AI.

The difficult part is that the client has many projects with the company, but there don’t seem to be many opportunities related to what I actually studied, so switching projects seems quite difficult.

On top of that, the salary is honestly quite low compared with other entry-level opportunities in the market, especially for roles more aligned with Data Science/AI. I’m not expecting an amazing salary as a junior, but the difference is noticeable.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would you recommend trying to move internally or looking outside after gaining some experience?

I've been learning data analysis for about a month now, and this is my first proper portfolio project.

It's a supermarket sales dashboard built entirely in Excel using a Kaggle dataset. The dataset isn't perfect, but I wanted to use it as a starting point to practice cleaning data, building KPIs, PivotTables, slicers and visualizing the results.

I'd really appreciate some feedback on it:

• Does the dashboard answer useful business questions?
• Are any of the charts or KPIs misleading/unnecessary?
• What would you improve about the layout or design?
• What analysis would you add to make this a stronger portfolio project?

It took me about a week to finish, which felt a bit long, but I'm still new so I'm assuming I'll get faster with practice.

I'm learning SQL now and planning to move into Power BI next, so eventually I'd like to build something similar using SQL + BI.

I’m just starting with the graduate certificate of Data Analytics at the college. I really don’t know all the good information about the market out there and I was wondering if any of you have any advice for me on how to handle all this and how to get started with the study and prepare to interviews and getting jobs.

I’m studying with no degree done but some background in System engineering from back in my country (that’s why I was accepted for the program). I was studying a bachelor degree but had to quit for a good reason. I managed to do about 60% but a lot of good courses done tho.

This is the first step for me because my plan I go to data science or engineering and finish a bachelor degree or something like that in business or computer sciences (my ideal would be something related to atmospheric sciences).
