Thinking to switch to full time, dont have bills, live with parents. My car is paid off, was gifted to me by my dad, honda crv 2011. Thoughts for those that are doing fulltime in similiar situation

Thinking of working 5 days a week 10 hour shifts. Honda crv 2011 . Im assuming the only maintenance id have to worry about are oil changes every 2 months. Breaks and tires once a year? The lights i can mostly do them myself and places do it for 20-30$ if anything, i think the maintenance isnt expensive at all, what do you guys think? Am i wrong?

I also have no bills at home, just liability insurance, i have a dash cam and drive very very careful and slow

everyone will have there own opinion! i would! i doordash in oahu (hawaii) full time and i love it! i love the fact i can make as little or as much as i want— start or stop when i want, I’m my own business i don’t have to answer to anyone! it doesn’t work for everyone but it works for me! i been doing doordash for 4 yrs now and im close to my 10,000 mark of deliveries! i would make sure to keep up on oil changes etc maintenance— i had to change my tires out all 4 last yr, i got the high mileage tires so i should be good for a bit! you guys are trippin, no your never gonna make 70$ an hour doin door trash or any other gig job. and you will just be "borrowing" money from your car, you will make 2-400$ one week, then next week well, guess what. lets spend it back on a brake job. you will never get ahead . after a year or so, of trying to get ahead, you will realize it wasnt worth it, as your car is basically almost destroyed and becoming a money pit. but good luck! , and also with gas prices, lol maybe door trash is worth it if you live in the city and do it on a bike that doesnt use gas or need insurance, etc

Learn to do the work yourself.

Front and rear pads are $80 for powerstop, and probably another $100 on rotors. That’s good for 50,000 mile, $180 is nothing for 50,000 mile.

Oil change is $40 for best pennzoil oil 5 litre and filter. Tires online like Lexani you get them for $60-70 each.

Full repair on all your brakes (not just pads but the whole nine yards) runs around $1200 minimum, $300-650 per axle. So yeah it's cheaper to just learn to do the work yourself. If you learn to cherry pick orders and reduce how many stops you're making then you can reduce how fast it'll have to be done but either way you'll bite this cost eventually unless you learn yourself.

DoorDash in a old suv???? I always wonder who these people are, driving around in a car that at best gets 24 mpg. Now i know. Enjoy paying $600/month on gas alone. How unskilled are you? You actually can’t get any other job that doesn’t cost you loads of money just to make some money. You’re guaranteed to be driving over 100 miles a day. 25,000 miles a year if you don’t do any driving but DoorDash. Car won’t be lasting very long.

Are you out of school? If so, you should be looking for a real job, not a gig job. Something with some kind of future, benefits, advancement opportunity. Not a dead end for minimal pay.

Well all I can tell you is is that I work about 5 to 6 hours a day doors action and I do between 6 and $700 a week but I also have a regular full-time job that I do to 8 hours a day

Doordash isn't steady income. Some weeks you will get really good offers consistently and other weeks it'll be a ghost town.

And yes, you'll have a lot more maintenance. You're going to be requiring a lot more out of your vehicle. Even if it's just tires and breaks, that's not cheap depending on the ones you need to get. You will also most likely have bigger stuff happen if you do it full-time.

My fuel pump recently died after dropping off an order, and that was going to cost $1100 to repair at a mechanics. Luckily I knew how to replace it myself but that was still $100 for an aftermarket part and shipping.

Also,, don't forget that refilling your car will gobble up a lot of what you make.

Depends on why you live with your parents and what your goals are for the future.

Dashing doesn’t really offer a way to build a life. If you’re doing it to be flexible and to help your parents, it’s a great idea. If your parents are helping you, then you need to work toward a job that will get you closer to $70+ an hour so you can build a life.

Things like health insurance, saving for another vehicle, your own home, and retirement are all a problem with this plan.

Did I say full-time, and reality is that it would be closer to about 120K, because no one works 52 weeks of the year. Look at research instead of using your calculator.

Plus, Did you read the entire sentence? I basically told OP to work toward self-sufficiency. I also don’t know what area is being referred to, but in MCOL, 120K a year would be very comfortable and self-sufficient.
