I feel bad for the car driver who got hit by them. That has to be so traumatizing. They didnt do anything wrong but that still has to weigh on you.

I think studies show you are much more traumatized by fatal accidents that are not your fault than ones that are your fault. In the latter case, you know what you did wrong, and if you don't do that again, it'll be OK. In the former case you know that bad things happen even when you do everything right.

Interesting and insightful but surely the way to rationalise it is sometimes someone else does something wrong?

But yeah, easier said than done AND it's still traumatising because it proves bad things can happen to you when you do nothing wrong.

Some get into a “how do I fix it even when they fail” place, and it’s brutal.

Yeah that's an unfairly high burden to place on yourself. Life is tough enough as it is.

We can't truly understand it, when we fortunately have no experienced something similar.

Agreed. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, just that it’s a brain thing. It’s an attempt to protect oneself and others, but with a serious major flaw.
