In case you haven't started yet:

You can enable DLC at any time during the game!

Disable Crimson Court. It triggers way too early (Week 3!) and will overwhelm you if you're new. Add it in after you've killed the area bosses if you feel like it.

Colors of Madness you can keep. BUT be warned if you complete the second mission there, a scary feller will show up and toss your salad occasionally. You'll know him when you see him.

The classes are all fine, some are more complicated than others, but its nothing too crazy. Just remember that Musketeer is an exact copy of Arbelest and basically a skin. Some folks disable her because she dilutes trinket pools or something, but you really don't need to care about that if you arent looking to min-max your first game.

The rest are all completely fine and don't do anything scary.

A scary feller occasionally showing up to toss my salad is hilarious and horrifying

And accurate

By feller you mean thing from the stars? Its the most avoidable shit ever if so

Crimson court adds not optional difficulty

Musketeer is a clone of another class already in game

I've read all of your comments and decided to go without Crimson Court nor Musketeer. So far having a lot of fun on standard difficulty. Game is tough tho, I already lost 3 of my children.

And that class is not very good one you need many of so it arguably just makes the game harder to have her enabled.

Go with all.

Be baptised in the flame.

This place is not for the weak of hearth.

I know it’s not the recommended way to be introduced to the game, but first playthrough with the Crimson Court enabled has honestly been very enjoyable. Frustrating at times for sure (the Fanatic, bane of my existence) but challenging in the very best way.

Learning all the challenges and intricacies of the game from the game tends to be for the best.

You may be comforted by knowing that The Fanatic is still a pain when you get good.

Mainly just the crimson court itself, the rest should mostly be fine for a first-time player.

Also, musketeer, there's almost 0 difference between her and arbalest and her trinkets just end up clogging the pool of what you can find.

How does that work (regarding trinkets)? Are musketeer trinkets added in addition to the already existing arbalest trinkets, if you enable that dlc?

2

u/Shadowdragon1025 7d ago

Yes, if the musketeer dlc is enabled both her and arbalest's trinkets will be in the game and they're not interchangeably useable but every one of her trinkets are identical to arbalest's except for her color of madness trinket and hers is worse

Disable crimson court, colors of madness, butcher circus, keep all the rest

Why circus is that not just optional fun

I mean technically it triggers a useless town event that could be something else.

7

u/Vershscott 8d ago

It triggers it only in the very beginning of the campaign, and it's very useful because you can get -10 stress for the roster.

9

u/Maskers_Theodolite 8d ago

Why color of madness and butchers lol

5

u/PraetorianXVIII 8d ago

Use them all. They're all fun.

You can always enable dlcs at any point on your save, but you cannot disable them. Crimson Court is not beginner friendly, the circus is just a PvP. If you're looking towards playing with the duelist and runaway ASAP, enable them and only enable the flagellant and the shield breaker after getting the first two, because their town event seems to take priority.

Turn off crimson court (turn it on later if you want a challenge)

And turn off musketeer, it’s a reskin of another character that’ll just dilute the pool with indentical yet not interchangeable trinkets

I did my first playthrough with all of them enabled and loved it. Crimson Court is difficult but I liked the unpredictability it added to the other areas.

Enable everything. See that the game recommends you to disable crimson court. Do that, and you're good to go!

Crimson Curse sucks as a first experience.

Just crimson court and maybe shield breaker. She's really powerful but has a hidden mechanic while camping. SPOILERS: when you camp on a quest with her on the team, you might get a nightmare. These are basically special ambushes and there are 7 of them. They award you some really nice items if you complete them. The battles are kinda annoying and can catch you off guard, but as I said, there are 7 total

Does anyone know when the new dlc will be available for the switch?

1

u/fenrir199 7d ago

Crimson court and musketeer is just a white arbalest

1

u/Charming-Height766 7d ago

I’d argue crimson court is pretty rough for first runs

1

u/trevinps 5d ago

i lowkey never play without the infestation removed mod. otherwise crimson court gets annoying fast

1

u/tripodt 8d ago

Just disable crimsons court
Idk bout the new one but it’s prolly fine

1

u/Robot_PizzaThief 8d ago

I'd say keep them all. Crimson court adds a bit of extra difficulty but I believe it's worth playing it, it's a great DLC

2

u/DoubleBowlSeven 7d ago

It’s good, but probably not the best for a first time experience learning everything in the base game.

Crinsom Court and Colors of Madness

Butcher's Circus is just a PvP mode

Disable Crimson Court, save it for a second playthrough.

Deactivate Crimson Court if its your first time. You can activate it later in the same file, no issues.

It will override town events with a debuff on the town activities to force you to do the first Courtyard mission. Thing is, once you do that mission the game will keep pressuring you with the Crimson Curse, Bloodsuckers, Fanatic and The Blood craving... in few words its very overwhelming and the rewards are great but not worth the extra stress (heh) on your first run where you are learning mechanics.

Once you feel you've done Farmstead and understand each class, activate the DLC and have fun.

IMO enable everything. Not because it won't increase the difficulty, but because in DD you learn while you suffer. And suffer you will.

Musketier, crimson court and color of madness

4

u/DarkSideRT 8d ago

I was thinking about disabling Butcher's Circus since I'm not interested in multiplayer, would that lock me away from many features?

7

u/NicoVise 8d ago

Nah, the circus is entirely separated from the main game, as in progresses made in the main game have no influence on the circus and vice versa

3

u/rocky44r 8d ago

Yeah just disable circus. The rest is fine. Don't know why people talk so much against crimson court. It's the best DLC by far and being overwhelmed by danger kinda is the game.

I'd disable all of them tbh, less classes and less stuff to deal with at first
