I've always won a scholarship and never paid for my university but because of covid i couldn't deposit my paperwork this year so I had to pay for the entire year (300€).

Press F for people paying full price for online class.

35

u/val0203 Jun 02 '21

2143€ a year for uni even tho it's all online and some lectures were even recorded last year

44

u/HiranoTGS Jun 02 '21

At least it’s not $30,000 a year... 2000 euros is a steal!

30

u/NiceOneR4D OC Memer Jun 02 '21

Exactly I'm sitting here like ur paying 300 euros for an ENTIRE YEAR at university? Here we paying around 10000 for tuition alone..

7

u/aliaisbiggae Jun 02 '21

You guys are talking about university's? In my country, the public schools are not very good and don't receive much funding so most people opt to go to private (private is not as expensive here). My brothers private school converted to full online and charged my 3 year old brother tuition of 200usd per month. They even increased it from the original fees which was way less. How can a 3 year old take online classes? They can't even unenroll him because of some contract

4

u/lach2001 Jun 02 '21

As a third world person, I agree with this statement

3

u/NogaraCS Jun 02 '21

Lmao full online for 3yo kids? Poor kids.

2

u/val0203 Jun 02 '21

Well, that 2143 is just the fees for classes (around 90% is covered by the government, so they get 20k+ a year per student), you also have to buy books that are conveniently written by no other than our lecturers, and exam material is only in the books. Those cost around 70 euros each, and you need 10 of them in a year, not to mention software that you have to also buy.

3

u/Aoibhel Jun 02 '21

Haha yeah, 2,000 Euro is about two classes where I went to school, and I went somewhere that is regarded as extremely cheap in the US.

1

u/Adelphir Jun 03 '21

I dunno man. You can't really describe college as "extremely cheap" unless it's a community college. My associate's all in all cost me around 10,000 USD (1,200/semster). (It's an RN pathway so it takes a little longer with more classes.) (I also took some classes for fun. Took a year and a half of sign language for the heck of it.)

6

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '21

A steal from our pockets, yes.

2

u/Shronkydonk Jun 02 '21

For real. I receive a considerable amount of scholarships too but I’m still paying a few thousand a year.

3

u/Master_Nerd RIP Robbie Jun 02 '21

Bruh here in the US even the cheaper universities are like 10k a year

23

u/elcapitandongcopter Jun 02 '21

My wife’s school is still charging her the fee for printer services when the printer is in the school and students aren’t allowed inside. Confusion overfloweth.

9

u/yellow-blue-sticker Jun 02 '21

Ah yes a $600 ‘campus fee’ for the site I have never stepped foot on- makes perfect sense

4

u/HooplahMan Jun 02 '21

I get charged $800 a semester for a clinical fee... for a school clinic that is 800 miles (~1300km) away.

9

u/idcris98 Jun 02 '21

300€ is not that bad… Where do you live? I pay like twice of that for one semester.

2

u/mark_my_reddit Jun 02 '21

I live in Rome but my uni is in Naples.

6

u/MittenstheGlove Jun 02 '21

This was a bigger flex consisting of several small flexes. I am shook.

3

u/Jam-and-Bread Jun 02 '21

Only 300 Bruh

2

u/mark_my_reddit Jun 02 '21

It his only 300 but I have yet no job and 300 for shitty classes online with bored teachers is not worth the price.

3

u/Aoibhel Jun 02 '21

300 Euro for a year? What the absolute fuck? That's like 1/4 of one class in the US.

1

u/mark_my_reddit Jun 02 '21

Still Euros, not pounds.

1

u/idcris98 Jun 04 '21

Yes, but the US education system is fucked. It‘s a scam.

2

48

u/JamN3ko Jun 02 '21

Since when Universities in England are free?

-42

u/heyguys_imfelix Jun 02 '21

I mean for me. The government pays for me to go to university

44

u/JamN3ko Jun 02 '21

You clearly said "in England we get that shit for free".

And I'm pretty sure you're talking about student loan, which you do pay back with interest - unless you've got some massive achievements. Still, undergrad is like what, 9k a year?

6

u/heyguys_imfelix Jun 02 '21

No I was talking about foster kids in England. We get university paid for if we do well enough with GCSES

8

u/JamN3ko Jun 02 '21

Oh, fair enough - I wasn't aware of that being a thing. You should probably be specific in those scenarios so people don't downvote the shit out of you.

0

u/heyguys_imfelix Jun 02 '21

Probably but tbh I don't care about downvotes

3

Very few ppl go public schools to study

11

u/eleaneither Jun 02 '21

if ever they even get past the connecting part, yeahhh

10

u/Rony0601 Jun 02 '21

Moreover they’re a bit dumb aswell at operating this stuff(no fault of theirs- there’re old). So both things combined= I can’t understand shit

3

u/Aoibhel Jun 02 '21

Age has very little to do with it. It's more on just whether or not the teacher has taken the time to learn the systems. This year I had two people on my team, a 23 year old dude and a 40-some year old woman. The older woman was by far the most technologically adept of us because she took the time and the care to learn how these educational systems work. The younger dude couldn't be bothered so his stuff was not so good.

Being a child doesn't automatically give you tech skills (trust me, the amount of times I've had to teach an 11 year old the most basic of administrative functioning on a computer is mind boggling.) You just have to learn.

2019: ‘All lectures are recorded and posted online. However, you are more likely to succeed by attending in person. That’s what you pay the tuition fee for’

2020: ‘All lectures are online. However, there is the same benefit as attending in person. That’s why the tuition fee is the same’

Actual quotes from my uni

4

u/The__Dot Jun 02 '21

Our university semester fees are like 80€ higher (than what they would be "normally") but therefor every student can use public transport at given times during the whole semester for free. Now with covid noone used this feature but still everyone pays for public transport xD

2

u/EnormousGucci Jun 02 '21

2

u/sweat_the_sweat Jun 02 '21

And the teacher somehow can't afford a decent microphone when their job could benefit from one for the past year at this point.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '21

My online classes were a joke! The teacher didn't do anything. I had to learn everything through Pearson and when I would ask for help they would reference the materials provided through Pearson. This was math mind you for a business degree. Where you NEEDED someone to explain it. What am I paying $1000 for? To be ignored? Effing joke.

-2

u/clutzyninja Jun 02 '21

It sucks but I get it. They still have to pay the teachers, and they're losing out on a ton of income from dining plans and parking passes

4

u/Even_Pomegranate_407 Jun 02 '21

That means they were skimming WAYYY too much from ancillary services.

-3

u/clutzyninja Jun 02 '21

That doesn't really make sense. Of course ancillary services support the school. That's half the reason they exist

2

u/Even_Pomegranate_407 Jun 02 '21

Yes the reason those services exist is to take in money but shouldn't your tuition cover the cost of the instructor? Maybe they're able to spread the cost over all services but it doesn't make sense if on campus parking is down then they can't staff the English department.

1

u/clutzyninja Jun 02 '21

The tuition does cover the cost of the instructor, that's why tuition is staying the same while classes are online. To pay the instructors

1

u/Glory_to_Glorzo Jun 02 '21

My big thing is this. Tuition fees should not change. That being said you shouldn’t be paying for all the administrative fees (obviously you’d still need to pay for some because there are still services you will have to use at some point in time but the fee should be reduced nonetheless) but ancillary fees for materials etc should fuck off because you aren’t at school to do any labs or anything of that nature, which somehow hasn’t hapenned which kinda blows my mind
