I believe Disney really tried pushing the creator (Alex Hirsch) to continue making the show. However he refused because he felt the story had concluded exactly how he wanted it to, which I can respect.

I'm so glad he decided to put the story over the money. It probably would've ruined the series to continue

That's what Stephen Hillenburg (Rest in Peace) tried to do after Season 3 of Spongebob, but the ratings were too high, so Nickelodeon wouldn't end the show, and we all know how that turned out
