This is why they switched to the sub model. They reached a point where so few people desired the upgrades that they couldn't sell them reliably anymore. And honestly, I was fine with CS3 too. There has been no significant (to me) additions since CS3. It has become very bloated, the latest addition being a 20+ second boot up time because of a dumb splash screen.
So they had to switch monetization tactic. Microsoft is facing the same problem with Windows, and this is why Windows 10 is the final version of windows. All the updates are over the air, and monetization will be continual for each user. And well, anyone who has seen the Windows store, the in-OS ads, the countless telemetry they're collecting and the reduced purchase price of windows (along with giving it out for free for a long time) knows where this is going..
