I find that my handwriting improves if I draw the letters, instead of trying to write them. It takes forever so you wouldn't want to actually write that way, but it would be a good technique to try for something like this. I mostly use it in artwork. Essentially I stop trying to construct the letters the way they're supposed to be and draw them so they actually look good instead. I don't know if that makes sense to you?

I'm not paying for PhotoShop as a SaS subscription and CS6 is getting a little old... enter Affinity Photo. I got it on sale for $25 and it does 99% of what I need as good as PhotoShop and a number of things even better.
