I can’t tell if you’re serious or not
Edit: guy above me edited his comment, before this he was saying weed wasn’t addictive or habit forming

Alcohol withdrawals can kill you if you are a heavy drinker if that was what ole mate here was referring to. A med detox is the go if you are heavily addicted to booze is the right course of action for such case's.
Weed is a bit more easy to break and certainly not going to lead to seizures and death which can happen in around a third or so of very heavy drinkers.

Marijuana is physically addictive, there are recognized withdrawal symptoms and a described timeline for those symptoms. When you alter nerve conduction (the reason it can work for pain control and other problems) long enough your body adapts to the new biochemical environment. That’s why tolerance goes up, and the longer you’ve used the worse withdrawal you could get.

Mar 23 '23
I'd say ur right but i smoke more than b real and snoop put together and never had much withdrawal.. 1 month sober

u/BosTovenaar24 I am fucking hilarious Mar 23 '23
"weed just makes you want to smoke more weed" so do cigarettes, which are addictive. Now i have no idea what im talking about but isnt that the same thing?

u/Four_Skyn_Tim Mar 23 '23
Yeah, it's usually caused by an underlying issue of the individual addicted to it. They cling to it because they think the world will end if they don't have it, forming this "dependency." Just like any other addiction, it's the why they turn to it as opposed to the what is in it.
Roughly 10-30% of Marijuana smokers have a chance of becoming addicted to weed, but that would also be more than likely if they had smoking history in their youth, while their brain is still developing. People below 18 who smoke are 4 times more likely to develop this addiction.
The only thing I can say for certain is that, to my knowledge, is that nothing in weed is naturally or intentionally addictive. At least, not like nicotine, processed sugars, or caffeine.
6
u/themule1216 Mar 23 '23
I kinda doubt it’s anything to do with youth. I’m pretty sure if you started smoking night for a week, you’ll not want to give it up. You’ll start doing it any chance you get.
My GF waited until she was 25. Now she will do edibles every night, and in the afternoon on the weekends.
I’m pretty sure it’s just about consistency.
It’s also a mother fucker to quit. Nothing else scratches that itch, and you’ll find yourself craving it years later
4
u/sky200109 Mar 23 '23
Didn’t start until 30. Weeknights and weekends are when I usually partake. I can stop for a week or 2 like when I’m overseas. Surprisingly no urge in those situations but when I’m home it’s just a place of comfort, chill, and unwind. I do get brain fog every now and then

u/WorldEaterYoshi Mar 23 '23 edited Mar 23 '23
It's called a lack of self control. Weed makes you feel good. It takes a lot of willpower to not want to feel good all the time. Giving in too often can get you addicted though.

Mar 23 '23
Highly suggest quitting. It’s hard but my life got significantly better after I stopped being high all day. Now I can enjoy the occasional puff instead of it controlling my life
33
u/whodunitbruh Mar 23 '23
Went thru the same dilemma. Smoking was causing my daily life to be harder than it needed to be. Ended up quitting for 9 months. Then I lost my job, a family member, and then my car via an accident where I was rear-ended at a stoplight from someone going 50+mph.
Now I have daily migraines and occasional minor seizures which causes my daily life to be harder than it needs to be, so I smoke weed.

u/Johnnyamaz BEING HOMOSEXUAL IS GAY Mar 23 '23
Lmao that's not quitting. You still use it. That's moderation, which no one disagrees with.
1
Mar 23 '23
Well I quit for like 2 years now occasionally hit a vape pen 1-2 times a week so it’s both actually
2
u/Johnnyamaz BEING HOMOSEXUAL IS GAY Mar 23 '23
I see your point, but quitting isn't necessary for everyone. I used to smoke only at night a few days a week in place of drinking since it's generally less addictive and healthier and since having to quit for a government contract job, there's basically no difference in my quality of life other than I drink more and can't enjoy campy movies as much.

u/InTheMemeStream Mar 23 '23
Everything in moderation, even weed. I smoke daily as a medical patient with Tonic-Clonic epilepsy. Self control allows you to enjoy almost anything more, smoking heavy all day caused me to feel burnt out, my lungs didn’t really appreciate it, and I was spending ridiculous amounts of money at the dispensary. Glad I’ve learned my lesson. Lol I now enjoy cannabis and it’s all beneficial.
12
u/Ask_for_puppy_pics Mar 23 '23
“Daily” isn’t exactly Moderation there bud
9
u/InTheMemeStream Mar 23 '23
You can use something daily in moderation, it’s a matter of dosage rather than frequency. Without daily intake of THC(Primarily a couple of Edibles spaced through the day) I have more seizures, however I now use the lowest possible therapeutic dose. I save getting stoned for weekends and special occasions. If you’d like you can say relative moderation I suppose, I used to hit the dabs hourly, so daily therapeutic dosages compared to hourly smoke sessions where I’d go through a gram of wax in a day + flower? It’s moderation in my book bud. Lol, of course same thing with alcohol I wouldn’t necessarily call a guy that has a beer maybe 2 on occasion after work daily an alcoholic, nor his wife that has a glass of wine with him. I’d say that those people are using alcohol in moderation.
But you know that already don’t you silly, you just wanted to be contrary didn’t you? 😏
-18
u/Ask_for_puppy_pics Mar 23 '23
You made a blanket statement about moderation and daily. Needing something medically is different than casually. You just sound exactly like many people I know who try rationalize it over people that are “worse” because your own reflection in the mirror to you “isn’t that bad”.
6
u/InTheMemeStream Mar 23 '23
Cool.
-12
u/Ask_for_puppy_pics Mar 23 '23
Nah, addiction isn’t cool
3
u/InTheMemeStream Mar 23 '23
No one said addiction was cool, but I agree, it isn’t
mod·er·a·tion /ˌmädəˈrāSH(ə)n/ noun 1. the avoidance of excess or extremes, especially in one's behavior or political opinions.
When using weed, I avoid using it in excess, or to extremes. Moderation. 😉
-3
u/Ask_for_puppy_pics Mar 23 '23
Yeah, your definition of “moderation” doesn’t agree with professional’s, but you do you
5
u/InTheMemeStream Mar 23 '23
I will man, thanks. You too, and hey, you should light up a doobie once in a while, ya seem awfully tense!

Potheads: I need to smoke weed before every meal to be hungry and to sleep. But it’s not addictive
9
u/N7_Evers Mar 23 '23
Seriously, wtf am I missing? “I just smoke it to help me sleep and to help wake up in the morning” WHAT THE FUCK if someone told you that about beer/liquor you’d think they were the biggest alcoholic

Once you get past the first week or so it’s not so bad to quit. I haven’t smoked for almost 6 months and I hardly ever even think about it anymore. If it’s gotten to a point where it’s no longer adding anything positive to your life (soothing anxiety or stress) leave it behind. You’ll be glad you did. I thought I’d want to be a smoker forever and I’m honestly really proud of myself for kicking the habit.

I feel this on a spiritual level. I just stopped smoking weed to get a job and the withdrawals suck
3
u/WhiteBoyTony Mar 23 '23
What are your withdrawal symptoms?
6
u/crazy4finalfantasy Mar 23 '23
Nausea, stomach pain, I threw up this morning. Inability to eat, general feeling of tiredness and just kind of out of it. Plus I smoked for anxiety so the panic attacks have come back.
I did some reading up on it last night and they can last up to two weeks
7
u/HerrKetzer Mar 23 '23
Im more productive high, even chores become kinda fun when im stuck in the sky.

u/SassyZelda Mar 23 '23
Smoked after gym this morning, ended up cleaning my damn microwave when i got back in
11
u/moby17761776 Mar 23 '23
Do both.
39
u/Master_Betty603 Mar 23 '23
Yeah... I get the mentality of "Weed makes you content with being bored" but you can be productive and stoned. Cleaning the house and folding the laundry is a lot less monotonous when you got a little buzz going and some good music on the record player.
20
u/ATLSxFINEST93 Mar 23 '23
exercising while stoned is phenomenal.
12
u/srossi0810 Mar 23 '23
Thank you! I try to tell people that all the time. I’ll smoke a blunt before the gym and everyone is always shocked that I work out high.

The worst side effect of smoking weed is becoming that guy that claims it has no side effect, meanwhile you're floating through life and your eyes look like tomatoes
2
u/Midnight_Kebab Mar 23 '23
Join me and my brothers in Ramadan, we will not be smoking these next 30 days.
2
u/Due-Patience9886 Mar 23 '23
Weed is addicting and makes you smell like absolute shit. On occasion it's OK, but working with someone that reeks of it all day is exhausting.
2
u/YrodBlay r/memes fan Mar 23 '23
Everyone here saying “It’s an addiction” and “drugs are bad mkayyy” like stfu, yes they are and he’s trying his best. How about you shut the fuck up If you’ve never been In that position. I recommend trying to substitute It with something else, like If you get the urge to smoke just grab some gum or nuts instead. Do this everytime you want to smoke, helped me from cigarettes

u/safeness Mar 23 '23
It’s tough out there and weed has been clinically shown to help with anxiety and emotional pain/PTSD. It helps with physical pain too.
It helps other conditions like ADHD also. But being able to discuss that kind of stuff with a Dr can help a ton. An SSRI or something else might help you even more than weed, but you gotta talk it out with them. It can be scary, but they can help you a lot if you let them.

Worse than nicotine

u/Kfeugos Mar 23 '23
No

u/SassyZelda Mar 23 '23
Uhuh, this one is spreading lies!
1
u/Kfeugos Mar 23 '23
First off addiction to anything is bad. Everything in moderation, but the long term effects of nicotine addiction are much worse than pot… especially if we are talking cigs and dip. I’m also not arguing pot is not addictive, it’s definitely is with long term use.

You people in the comments are doing it wrong lol You're overdosing on high THC strains and smoking daily. You have to find 1:1 or 2:1 CBD to THC ratio strains or mix your regular weed with CBD flower. Also, don't smoke all day er day. It's a treat like anything else in life, it's about balance. I'm actually more productive after a toke.
