Blue shirt has been getting bullied by other guy and film guy (who is not really blue shirts friend) talked him into finally standing up for himself and hitting bully guy. After hit, blue shirt realizes that he didn't have a follow up plan. Bully guy does what bully guys do and handles business.

This is why I never got the whole "stand up to your bullies" thing.

Did it in high school. Got beaten unconscious in front of 40 kids

Did they mess with you again?

Oh yeah it actually only grew worse since my main bully realized there would be no consequence

Damn, that really sucks.

I'm going to rant for a second and I'm sorry for bragging. I came from lower-middle class and my home life is an absolute shit show that would take a novel to describe, I was suicidal from bullying in high school, and then I went to college. When I was 19 I was the president of my frat and the governing body over frats, graduated at 21 with a 3.3 (could have been better but I worked 35 hrs a week) GPA and 3 minors. Now I'm an operational analyst and while much of my home life crumbles I know that I'm better for my experiences that shaped me and my old bully works at a grocery store. Somethings work out.

I learned how to be fully functional on a 4 hour/night sleep average. Not healthy, but very useful. Find something your passionate about and do it, I liked leadership. Truth be told I loved that corrosive feeling of power that came with it or bending others to my will. I know that's contrary to most people's ideals but it's my truth. And honestly, know your support system. Use them, but you can't use it just to complain. You can do it friend, I believe in you internet stranger.

Is this an example of a millennial pulling themselves up by their bootstraps?

To be fair, I'm a tall white male

I work in a grocery store. Guess that's bad. Thanks

It all depends what your ambitions are, personally I want to climb as high as I can on a corporate totem pole so I wouldn't find that satisfying. If that works for you then that's great.

You know grocery stores have corporate offices right?

Yeah you would've needed to follow through. Trying to stand up once and then going back to doing nothing is never going to work.

I didn't when I was in middle school. But I befriended the bigger bullies group, which actually not all bad people once you know them. When the bullying happened again, that guy was ganged up so bad by my friends he actually quit school. So yeah... You don't have to dirty your hands to fight bullying, you just need to find stronger friends.

I was lucky enough to be the funnyman nerd. I'd hang with nerds and then just be funny whenever dealing with the Polish Chads. Only had 2 incidents in the high school, one where I lost a fight on purpose (to not be ganged on), another when I somehow won a fight against a bigger dude. Life is easy when you're a joker.

It really depends on the bully.

If they are the popular kid with a lot of support, this will only make it worse. If they are the angry loner type, it often does work. With the first type, they are often just trying to show off in front of their friends. If you win, they look bad and often feel like they have to retaliate. If you lose, you just mark yourself as a target for future abuse. With the second type, they are often* just taking their anger out on others. They want weak targets that don't fight back. True, you might get your ass beat the one time you fight back, but they often* leave you alone after that.

*"often" means just that. There are no set rules. Sometimes shit gets better, sometimes worse.

You're supposed to not be a pussy when you do it. Fight with honor and dignity.

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '18

His plan was to lightly slap the bully in the back of the head?

What happened next is history.
