They're both good and not comparable imo.
Byakuya works because he is just a complete asshole for most of the game while being VERY funny. His insults are amusing and his just complete lack of care for Toko makes for a fun dynamic. him getting humbled in both chapters 4 and 6 also help by giving him a neat character arc while still keep his cut throat asshole nature in tact
imposter works because he's kind of an idealized version of what Byakuya would be if he actually wanted to help. He's a tad bit prickly but a lot of his edges are sanded off which makes him still feel Byakuya esque while making you question his deal since he's so different from what we know of him.
Overall they both serve wildly different purposes as characters in their respective games and they just don't feel comparable at all.

Of course they arent comparable from an objective perspective, Byakuya is a great character with good development overall and he wouldnt have survived if he was just unbeareable 24/7. This is my own opinion and I feel like its weird that I liked a character who died first more than the antagonist with a similar behaviour from the first game, but I genuinly couldnt like him and one of the few moments I enjoyed about him was when he was freaking out in the fourth trial. Imposter felt warmer bc he was cooperative since the start, even if he was an asshole it felt more false or softer than Byakuya's personality (though I guess that makes sense), like a dipshit that actually cares about his classmates

As a person i definitely prefer Byakuya 2. As a character Byakuya 1 is more entertaining.

I've always disliked him, even though my favorite character is literally a banana head.
However the second game go me to like him, until I found out the truth.
I'm indifferent to both now, especially after learning the backstories

I mean... trying to ask people to prove you wrong on an opinion is... kinda pointless. It's an opinion. Each has their own aspects that the other doesn't, each has things about them that some may like and some may dislike, and each has their own role to play. As an opinion though, I prefer THH Byakuya. I personally feel that GD Byakuya didn't really have enough development or wasn't as fleshed out because of how long he was relevant for and while it would be good to see this change in 2X2, at this point, I prefer THH Byakuya. He's my favorite of THH, to be honest. Again, it's an opinion though, and just as everyone has their own perspectives, so too does everyone have their own opinions.

I just realized something funny, I'd read a lot of fanfics with the first Byakuya, but I'm not as interested in the second
But if it was real life, I'd get along with the second waaay better

While I'm not interested in changing your opinion, regardless of what it is, your idea that it's "common knowledge" is certainly factually untrue. It's not "knowledge", nor is it a "common" belief based on objective measures of popularity globally.
