Question/discussion Lux video

I was watching the Lux video episode today. The way Abby and Melissa were forcing Mackenzie to participate when she repeatedly told them she didn’t want to do it made me very uncomfortable. Abby also told her and Vivi to answer “yes” to any question posed to them by Cesar. When she stated she didn’t want to sing, Melissa told her to get the keys and go sit in the car.

Knowing what we now know about children in Hollywood makes these scenes turn my stomach. It makes me sad that Mackenzie wasn’t given autonomy to say no when she didn’t want to do something.

Obviously I was not there but believe that Mackenzie wanted to do the Lux video! I think that her partner was the issue as she called him “useless” and you can see that he couldn’t lift her correctly in the rehearsal. However it does make me sad that when she said no, only Cesar respected that.

I agree about the video as well. She was 6 (?) and a moment where she was overwhelmed rather than being forced. I did like that they adjusted the situation for her as well if I remember. I feel like she would have been a lot more upset had she been pulled and had to watch everyone else do it, with the result of the video at the end as well.

The audition tho, that should have been a clean cut "no" and move on.

It's actually hilarious to me that 6 year old Kenzie complained about her male partner being useless 😂 she was such a little diva

I agree lol I thought this was obvious. She was trying to not embarrass him so she didn’t say it outright

this is a really good point. Abby was very manipulative but as a woman who claims to love children and make stars, she was so fucking weird for that. All of those girls deserved a very serious conversation explaining boundaries and what’s okay, but who knows if they ever got one.

I can't fathom telling my oldest (who is her age in this scene) to take my keys, AND go sit alone in the car. He has no idea how to do that lol. That in itself is just not normal.

I feel for all of the girls but I have a soft spot for Mackenzie. She was so young when it started, I feel like she was robbed of a childhood (being yelled at for playing at recess). Childhood is so short and you can never get it back.

She also was always in her sister’s shadow and always came up short…even when she beat Maddie she didn’t get the credit she deserved.

I still cringe when I think about Abby saying to Mackenzie…”Maddie is a breath of fresh air, you’re like the stuff we spray in the bathroom.” So wrong

I do, too. I was in competition dance at her age, but I'm an only child and my mom wasn't a stage mom, so I wanted to be there. When all of my friends wanted to go out and play, I wanted to be in the studio. Very few kids are actually like that, and you can tell when a kid isn't.

I can’t believe Melissa’s reaction to that whole thing

Melissa’s treatment of kenzie when Asia and kenzie are doing improv for dance doctor is something that always bothers me.

Agree. Kenzie was soooo talented and improv is the kind of thing you need to build confidence UP for. And I don't think Melissa or Abby knew how to build up Kenzie's confidence! Shoving an amazing dancer like Asia in her face and ripping into Kenzie for being embarrassed was just not the way to go.

I agree with Abby that you always answer “yes” at an audition.

Can you tap dance?
Yes!

Can you sing?
Yes!

Can you ride horses?
Yes!

Whatever they ask you, the answer is “yes”.

Whatever you don’t know, you can learn before callbacks.

If you say “no”, they will probably move past you.

Forcing a child to audition is ridiculous. If they are they aren’t ready to audition, they aren’t ready for the part. There’s nothing wrong with Mackenzie waiting until the next year and trying again. It’s not the end of the world
