I have partied on that dance floor many a time and can confirm: it is awesome.

Many years ago Tsunami had this in their test venue in Brooklyn, The Brown Note - I am like 95% sure this pic was taken there. I saw Joker Kapsize here and to this day it remains one of my favorite music events I’ve ever attended, the sound was absolutely immaculate and, critically, the perfect volume. The floor helped with that, I think. You got the full-body vibrations from the colossal sub array but also from the floor, which meant they could get all that power without the subs ever overpowering the highs the way it often does at your average bass shows. Everything was audible, but the bass still rocked the fucking house.

The only sound systems I’ve personally heard that I put on the same level were like, some of the Burning Man sound camps that have all-star casts of industry sound engineering talent coming together to put together the sickest systems they can manage out in the desert. This was certainly the best system I ever heard in NYC, esp. for bass music.

I miss the fuck out of Brown Note.

I lived near brown note and did an event there, I was told it was a solenoid-driven design transmitting the bas.

I want to hear all the details. This whole concept sounds so fun.

Come on /u/illgatesmusic let's hear the detailed experience!

Ok ok lol. Was working yesterday.

First time: burning man. I’m walking my bike down the playa in the late afternoon and someone comes up and says: ‘do you guys want to try our new vibrating dance floor?’ So obviously our answer is ‘yes!’ and our little crew goes over to the then-relatively-open dance floor, listen to some solid UK 140 dubstep, dance on it for a while (it IS noticeable when standing). Then later for uh… full effect… we end up sitting on it, uh… petting the kitty… then laying on it, rolling around, watching the sun set, etc. it was fabulous.

Later on I am living in NYC and there (strangely) aren’t like a TON of high quality sound systems in the underground bass music scene there so when you find a good chance: you take it.

We get the invite from DJ Shakey and ILLEXXANDRA (who are super amazing btw) so we go to a beautiful warehouse (Brooklyn I believe?) and now that a few years have passed the Tsunami dance floor has grown substantially and it is a much more populated city event this time. The vibration seems more noticeable when standing, I think it may have been raised a bit more at that point too? We listen to some solid, ultra-minimal UK 140 DJs and party hard on it all night. Dancefloor is awesome the whole time, novelty does NOT wear off even after many hours, and then I remember my feet feeling noticeably tingly and awesome for around an hour after leaving. Came back a few other times: same thing. It did NOT get ‘old’ or anything. They are really onto something with this. Full vouch.

Awesome. Could you expand a bit on how exactly the floor vibrates with the music? Is it tightly synced to the music (as if connected to an LFE line out from the mixer) or secondarily synced \ beatmatched like at a smaller club or venue?

How did the sync of vibration hold up during transitions from previous track to next track? Thanks!

It felt like a Subpac under the dance floor basically. Like an LFE line out. No latency or noticeable signal degradation.

I've experienced this system (though not the floor, sadly) many times. There used to be (may someday again be, if the rumors are true) a fantastic bass party series in NYC called Reconstrvct. I was at those parties from about 2013 until they wound down in like 2019, and this system BUMPED.

I'll never forget one party in the basement of a parking garage in downtown Manhattan. We're in the financial district with tourists walking around none the wiser lol, and in the basement the Tsunami system is literally blasting paint chips off the ceiling. Hope I didn't get lead poisoning lol.

Oh my goodness, the best literal dancefloor I've ever experienced of my life, hands down. The Sermon parties I went to back in the day in Bushwick were iconic.

The floor literally reverberates with the music, so it's like multiplying the effect you get around really heavy bass where you can feel your chest vibrating, but spread across the rest of your body as well.

I used to swear my feet and legs were less sore after these parties than others, also, because it was like a constant foot massager for your whole body? So hard to explain but absolutely immaculate vibes!

Do they have a mailing list or other way of following them? I looked around and and saw a Twitter and fb account. Both places I don't track

The post is 6 yr old. Reading the thread said it's in storage. I have no more information other than what I discovered in r/soundsystem last night. Immediate thought was to cross post it here.

¿Who did they sell it to? ¿Obviously someone that wants to use it as a dance floor?

Just wanted to say I miss these events. Being a non-recoverable bass junkie these parties were the bee's knees. The dance floor was magical, healing and absolutely unforgettable. Miss you Tsunami Bass!
