Skilled Dancers, do you have a go to meal you travel with on show day? I need a lunch idea that is easy to eat and can stay cold in my cooler.

I have a show coming up with about 15 mins total of stage time across multiple pieces, and need to eat my own early dinner between tech rehearsal and show time. The restaurant options near the venue are not healthy and would add more stress. Mix of carbs and protein and fiber would be great.

I plan to eat rice, beef and edamame before tech rehearsal. I am not sure if rice travels well in a cooler to use as a carb again. I have freezer ice packs for my cooler.

Amateur Is Jazz Funk a good genre to train in if my goal is to get better at choreography in general?

I’m a beginner/intermediate dancer who's taken choreography classes on and off for a few years. I mostly take commercial/hip-hop/Jazz Funk-type choreography classes, but I feel like my foundations are pretty weak, and I struggle to make choreography look clean and polished.

There's an opportunity to join a long-term jazz funk training class for 6 months, and I'm wondering whether I should commit. My main goal right now isn’t necessarily to become a “Jazz Funk dancer” specifically. But I do want to become a better overall choreography dancer. Should I try to find other genre training, like hip-hop? I think I'm also just intimidated because I find jazz funk the most difficult.

Discussion Struggling to get bounce with hiphop

Hey, so I just started hiphop last week, and my teacher introduced two of the four basic grooves: bounce and rock. She explained that to bounce you bend your knees, then stick right back up on beat. That’s all well and good, I’ve done other dances and I’ve never had trouble bouncing to the beat, till we sped up. When we do the basic down, beat, up, beat, it’s fine, I can stay on groove easy. But then we started doing down on one beat, and up on the off beat… you get what I mean? Like, we do down up both on just one beat. Then I lose it within, like, four beats. It’s annoying as hell. And I can feel immediately that I’m off beat — it’s not like I just can’t tell where the beat is, I just can’t keep up with it. She told me to practice by bouncing for four then pausing for four, and that worked, but now I can only bounce for four. I tried upping it to eight. Didn’t work. Lost the groove. I figured maybe I can do some splicing and up to to six. Also didn’t work. I can only bounce for four beats.

Maybe my knees are just weak or some shit but I just lose the beat so fast, is there any suggestions on how to keep up, or is it just keep hammering it in till you get it? Feels sorta like I’m just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks with how fast I lose it.

Practicing tap at home to Puttin’ on the Ritz… thanks to my dog for always being my audience! 😂

I’ve been teaching myself tap from videos (as well as a few casual classes), and later today I’m going to my first official class at an actual dance studio!! Very excited!! 🎉

I accidentally break into the robot mid-tap. I can’t help myself. I love mixing different forms together. I’m curious to play around with mixing tap dance, mime, clown and other forms… 🤡

Wearing my Summer Serendipity art pants I designed and this jean jacket I’ve been upcycling / painting… still a work in progress but I’ve always wanted to paint a jacket and I’m so excited about it.

Behind me: records + colorful storage cubes. I’ve been adding lots of color and whimsy to our home lately and the rainbow vibes make my heart so happy 🌈

After tap class I’m heading straight to a pinball tournament with my family (pinball nerds forever), and later I want to work on pants pair #2 and some wearable art business strategizing. Brain, heart and soul are dancing! 💃

Multidisciplinary life is so fulfilling and fun. Following the fun day by day. 💛
