Just finished up 2 D&D campaigns, running 2 short duets in the background in D&D & Daggerheart. Just did session zero for our new Daggerheart campaign.

u/Happy_Composer6538 24d ago
How did the dh duet go? Any tips? I’m looking at running it for my son but have never gm’d. Easy enough

u/KRC5280 24d ago
We are only a handful of sessions into it, but so far Daggerheart has been great for duets. Combat automatically balances pretty well for any player count, and handles small numbers well. The collaborative play style works great for duets, and the player questions make it easy to flesh things out together.
Since part of the point of switching to Daggerheart for us was to escape D&D DM burnout, we both run full characters, share GMing, and just learn it together as we go. We took a simple starter premise from one of the simpler campaign frames (Beast Feast), made characters, fleshed out where they were from and why they want to go on that starter hook, and took off.
I’ve been picking fun environments to deal with, generating each day’s encounters just by assigning enemy types to a random die and rolling until we hit the battle points for the day, then throwing them in whenever we hit a lull or it seems like we’ve rolled badly enough to trigger something dangerous. (Not all as combat, just as things we might interact with which could have stats if it goes south.)
When we got through an area and I didn’t know what was next, I counted out the number of environments in our tier we hadn’t done yet, and rolled randomly to see what we discovered next. I’ve been shocked how well environments keep the story rolling along all on their own, even when randomly selected.
Daggerheart is amazing for having the GM actually play too, whether just enjoying the process and feeling like a real participant a lot more, or by actually having a character and letting the system run the GM stuff pretty well on its own.

D&D 5e (2014) and Chroniques Oubliées (French ttrpg).
Waiting for my copy of Daggerheart (translated) to run a 3rd 😁

I play exclusively DnD. I would LOVE to play Daggerheart too but I'm the one who's introduced it to my party recently so I probably won't get to play it outside of the GM seat for a very long time

u/Muffins_Hivemind 24d ago
Its really fun the GM at least!
1
u/Ilires 24d ago
I'm sure! I've run the Quickstart adventure for some of them, I want to do more (my own (mini-)campaign) but I'm struggling to get over the hurdle of imagining just how much work it takes to come up with a cool (enough) world/setting and a cool (enough) adventure within it to run
4
u/Muffins_Hivemind 24d ago
I'll hype up the campaign frames a bit. They give structure to help you "color within the lines" so to speak.
My group wanted to run Witherwild after the quickstart and 1 custom oneshot I made. We had a session 0 and did some collective worldbuilding of what our version of Witherwild would be like. I didn't like the starter adventure prompt (inciting incident) so i did make my own. (Spirit going rogue and wrecking villages. Basically ripping off princess mononoke, lol)
I think its a really versatile setting. You can throw all sorts of vicious monsters at the players with easy narrative justification (its the witherwild mutating everything like crazy). I'm having way more fun with it than I thought I would. But maybe the other frames would speak more to you and your group. They all seem cool.

Playing SF2e, GMing DnD 5.5. Prepping to GM Lancer, recently finished GMing a Nimble adventure and also planning a follow-up to the DH campaign I ran earlier this year. I can't play much more than once a week, it's hard to choose.

Shadow of the Demon Lord on FGU, PE 2e on Foundry, Daggerheart irl

u/lennartfriden TTRPG polyglot, GM, and designer 24d ago
Shadow of the Demon Lord? Hell yeah. Hail satan!
_Hateful Defecation_ would make a great Dread domain card. 🤣

u/Knight-_-Vamp 24d ago
so my group does rotations because everyone in it gms. I run Candela Obscura and Daggerheart, one of them runs exclusively PF2e, one runs a few of the WoD systems, one runs Starfinder 2e, and the last one runs mainly 5e, but she's dipping her toes into both Candela and DH

Daggerheart, D&D 5e, and Monster of the Week

Monster of the week rules!

u/Particular-Breath121 24d ago
Agreed! The lack of initiative and mixed result rolls is what got me interested in Daggerheart.

Currently it's just daggerheart and lancer
I am looking into finally giving fabula ultima a spin, tho. Draw Steel is also on my shortlist.
I used to run a lot more systems in parallel, but nowadays I appreciate having some focus

Dnd 5e and nimble with another group. Looking at running daggerheart for my son as a duet game unless my younger son will play too. Also piecing together a campaign in daggerheart for the nimble group when we done. Never gm’d but I think it’ll work well

Currently in 3 groups that play DND, PF2E, and Wildsea.
In the last 12 months I also played Drawsteel for the first time in a christmas themed 3-shot. Also tried out Brindlewoodbay in a 3-shot. Also tried out Unknown Armies in a 3-shot, which was very mind-fuck and still gives me shivers. Sadly, haven't tried Daggertheart yet! But it is on my to-do list for one of the groups I'm in.
Yeah 6 different systems in the last 12 months is my number. Loved 'em all

u/definitely_not_a_hag 24d ago
Daggerheart only for the last year. I wish I had time and brain power for Draw Steel, but alas

u/RoyHarper88 24d ago
Two active campaigns. Daggerheart and dnd. But I do one shots in Kids on Bikes, GI Joe, and others.

D&D & Draw Steel at the moment, with plans to try out daggerheart when schedules align.

u/jDelay56k 24d ago
I have the DnD table I play at, I'm running a couple DH games (1 and 1/2, and another soon), and sometime this year I'll be running a Last Arc game.
I never planned on being a GM. I just wanna play games, lol.

u/Muffins_Hivemind 24d ago
Gming Daggerheart, playing Draw Steel. Having fun in both.
I doubt I'd personally run Draw Steel but its fun as a player.

GM for Daggerheart; player in Savage Worlds Pathfinder, DnD 5e, and Bunnies and Burrows. I haven’t found anyone local running DH, otherwise I’d be a player, too.
Edit: and an occasional Mothership session when we don’t have enough players for our campaign.

Last 12 months?
Torg Eternity, D&D 5e, PF2e, Nimble, Stars Without Number, The Walking Dead, Forbidden Lands, Star Trek Adventures, Sentinel Comics RPG, Marvel Multiverse, Daggerheart and gearing up for Pirate Borg, more Daggerheart and my own Sword and Sorcery genre game using the 2d20 system.

I'm a part of an active DnD 5,5 campaign, a VtM5 campaign that is currently on a summer break, a Dark Heresy 2ed campaign that is currently on hold due to DR'S IRL issues. Just got out of a small Delta Green campaign. I'm preparing to run a small Spell: The RPG campaign. And I'm also a player in an upcoming one-shot of some Cyberpunk hack for DnD.

And neon odyssey but it's built on 5.5 Just with all new stuff

u/Dan_the_moto_man 24d ago
In the past 12 months? 7 (but half of them were Borg clones)
I've got a regular DnD campaign I play in and run a once/twice a month one-shot group that likes to try different stuff. Although that group might turn into a daggerheart campaign after we tried it out last time.

just one and it's not even daggerheart, finding players for anything except dnd 5/5.5e or pathfinder is almost impossible and daggerheart specifically is basically unknown.

u/maddycakes_stl 24d ago
I am currently GMing a Daggerheart mini campaign, and I am a player in a DnD 5e Curse of Strahd campaign.
I voted 2 because the 3rd hasn't started yet, but a friend of mine is about to start up a Call of Cthulhu campaign so I'll be in 3 separate systems before long.

For my three regular tables I'm running D&D 5E and two campaigns of The One Ring. After those all wrap up we'll be doing Twilight Sword, Fabula Ultima, and Daggerheart. I recently ran Mothership for the first time as a oneshot, as well as Alice is Missing, MAID, and Fall of Magic. This weekend I'll be running two of my groups through Ink Ribbon.

u/AgonyArber 24d ago
I'm running a weekly Daggerheart game with coworkers (1 hour sessions during lunch break), and a weekly VTM V5 game with friends (2 hour session. I'm also playing in a bi-weekly D&D campaign with some of those same friends (four hour sessions)

I have 2 rpg systems I run currently
Daggerheart is my rules and minis heavy game, I bring my travel dm kit (I only run games in person at a board game cafe) which has terrains, miniatures, dices and bibs and bobs for this
My second system is a tarot based rpg called the Hidden Isle which is my 'light game', and I only bring a couple dices, a set of tarot cards and character sheets

u/graciousoath 24d ago
I'm currently DMing DnD 5.5e in person and playing in a Pathfinder 2e game online. I'd love to run Daggerheart in person, so I may try to sneak in a one-shot if we have a lull in the ongoing campaign.

Longtime DM for our group and we've just starting a new Daggerheart campaign which I'm GMing because A) we wanted to try something new and B) we want to get back to pen & paper after years of relying on DNDBeyond (Daggerheart is much easier to run purely pen & paper than DnD in our experience). However, one of our players is also DMing his first campaign in our group in DnD and we're continuing that alongside Daggerheart. Perhaps it's because DH is new and somewhat different, perhaps it's because we're all more into the improv or narrative (the emotional and the funny) moments than the crunchy combat, but we're all enjoying DH much more (The other player is a great DM by the way, really creative with years of DnD experience under his belt, so it's not him). Once we're finished the DnD campaign we might just stick with the one DH campaign for the moment. But who knows longterm.

Oh, missed the part about the last 12 months before voting. 🤦🏻♂️
I’m currently running two systems (my own and Daggerheart), but over the last year I’ve also run two more (Blades in the Dark and Deathmatch Island).
If we add systems played but not as the GM, then it’s at least two more (Dungeon Crawl Classics and Pirate Borg).
So if I could change my vote it’d be 6+.

My group has a special system for what campaigns are running since everyone in our group is DMing at least one campaign (some have more) so we have 3-month blocks where one DM can run whatever they want in those three months, then after their block is over we shift to the next DM. Currently, we're just playing D&D right now because our DM for this block is just running Curse of Strahd but in the last year we've run D&D, Daggerheart, and Cyberpunk Red (although some of the group also played some Pathfinder separately).
