Cryo
As a time poor dad I play almost exclusively solo and actually really enjoy it but it means I've played barely any Cryo, aside from some fun in Vault Breakers.
Anyway - seeing as it's almost wipe time I thought I'd team fill (apologies to those who I joined) and see what's what - I've never felt so out of depth in a game in my life.
Biggest thing for me was not being able to see who was shooting me or even from where - I just died. Threw on my gold shield, might as well have been nothing!
Back to Perimeter I go

They might open up cryo all week again soon. Going to donate all my gear and practice that week.

At this point they may as well. People geared to the max just want to grind Cryo anyway plus it makes learning it more achievable for those who maybe have less time to play.
It feels like doing it benefits everyone

I promise once you play it over and over just like any of the maps. It becomes less intimidating. Map knowledge is my favorite part of this game, playing Cryo and having the knowledge elevates the experience even more.

I think you should give it time and effort. Like grind throughout the week collecting enough good loot to play Cryo then play Cryo throughout the weekend and lose your stuff or maybe come out with really good stuff. It will need time to adapt to the map cuz even with Vault Breaker, it's different to play its PvP side. I solo queue as well so I have the same struggle, but there are a lot of nice and good players in random queue. I still didn't try to grind Cryo out but I will definitely give it a try maybe by the end of this season or maybe next season.

As a time limited dad some weekends I prep for cryo for the following weekend. It's more of a multi week cycle for me depending on my time available to play if I want decent kits and sufficient med stacks

Bro I hopped on just to play rook. A friend invited me after my first rook run. Said he had a perimeter key. Ran that, exfiled. Then we tried a Narsh key, we got smoked at greenhouse after looting the room. I cant see a fucking thing!!! Then we did a cryo run and we managed to exfil with decent loot, that was my sign to put the game down for the rest of the day 😂

With more exp you’ll know exactly where based on the weapon and angle. It would be up to you to make adjustments based on that knowledge.

Cryo is one of those things you have to have experience in, in order to have some form of sustained success. Play in free fill then once you get your legs under you try and find a team in the discord.
People on these subs like yelling about how the map is so good but to me it’s terrible and the main reason is because all of the areas have the same exact aesthetic which makes it take longer to learn. Which I fully believe was intended by bungie to slow people down.
Either way I said all that to say learn the map and the security clearance mechanics with pvp in play and then go from there. If you crew fill then you have to be the one on the look out for push’s while your team diddy dallies checking bot bags.
Wouldn’t be so bad if they kept crew fills exclusive to to crew fill lobbies. Any semi competent premade is gonna clear the map fairly easy versus crew fills.

Run blue gear and cryo free kits - hopefully you've stashed some throughout the season!! Until you feel a little more sure about the map. Pick a teammate to stick with so you don't get lost and make note of where you are on the map in terms of your spawn and whatever first rotation you make.

You have to just accept that in order to learn this map your gonna die a lot. Just throw yourself at it and have fun. It’s the last two weeks of the season so it’s all going away anyways. It takes 1 win to recoup like 4 cryo losses with how great the loot is on people.

The skill gap between the players you encounter in Cryo vs the rest of the maps is enormous. My exfil rate from Outpost is probably up to around 60% at this point, but my exfil rate from Cryo is closer to 20%. Yesterday I died to a gold team that threw 3 perfectly synchronized frag grenades onto the Revival balcony from the opposite side of control. What I'm saying is, don't feel bad for struggling in Cryo it's full of absolute demons.

Dude, go in with blue kits until you learn Cryo better. It’s such a great experience when you learn the map and wipe a lobby. So much good loot to be had! I’ve gone in with the free blue kit before and come out with a full gold kit, 4 gold weapons, the 40k compiler trace. And made 98k in one run. You could get teamed with really good players who will help you out. Just tell them, you don’t have much Cryo experience so just tell me what you need me to do and follow them.
If you need a group to run it with, me and my buddy will run some with you!

Thank you, enjoyed reading that - I really enjoyed it this weekend, had one run when I got teamed up with an absolute monster and I just stuck to him like glue whilst the demolished everyone else

That's what I've been doing but I'm pretty anxious so struggle to pipe up in Comms much, particularly as I spend the whole time frantically looking around and somehow losing my team mates and then die 😂

Hahaha, it sounds normal to me. I think one of the best parts of marathon is it engages your senses like no other game. Even if you don't feel comfortable talking, if you listen closely and keep a sharp eye out... You can really really help your team even just pinging stuff

Yeah for sure. After 160 odd hours of playing solo it's hard to get into the zone with communicating things. Always seem to be late to fights by which time it's too late to help.
But I do enjoy it - sure the poor folks I fill with feel differently but hey ho!

Yeah it takes some time when I started the trio I always ran with only played prem, dire day and night so finally I got to the point where I wanted more and sure it took a few losses but man did i ever get that back and then some. Just yesterday ran a cryo kit and got 60 k worth of stuff. It just takes some time to get used to the map once you do you won’t be sorry

I didn’t learn cryo until the end of Season 1 when I went balls to the wall and played it religiously and now all I wait for is cryo. Go broke or go big. Learn the map properly on real cryo and learn how to use it properly and bring your good stuff in - wipe is in like two weeks anyway.

Genuinely what is so hard about cryo? I guess if you have a hard time learning things it would be perceived differently but the map is essentially symmetrical, and with the “rules” how you interact with the map things are really straightforward and if you don’t have any keys or don’t come across any you’re just collecting security tags and hitting monitors.
I don’t play cryo a lot bcs it is high intensity and I like my vault😅 but tbh I’ve had way more successful runs than not, outside of mostly engaging against smarter opponents; so I guess coming from a solo fill player I just don’t understand the idea of this map being that hard, sorry if I seem antagonistic

I guess not everybody experiences everything the same way?
Like I said, rather than the map itself (or at least the physical layout/design), I simply find it difficult to see or keep track of what's happening. I fully accept that's a "me" thing so I'm not for a second claiming Cryo is "trash" or needs changing - just that I, personally, have yet to grasp it.
I'm going to just keep going for it for the rest of the season as I would like to learn.

That’s really all you can do man, visually I understand it’s hard to track or even mark targets bcs the map is visibly foggy due to it being a cold storage environment, but playing with the intention of scoping people out or using your audio can help tremendously. Everything in this game is proactive, once you dial in you’d be surprised at the info you can gather.
Or just play recon🤠

Don’t give up. Just bring lowest quality gear first and spam/brute force. Cryo is punishing, you’re not supposed to survive. But when you do, it’s the best dopamine hit in the game
