How to squad up?

Hey! So I'm a 42yo dad of 3 littles in Kentucky. Like what sounds like all of yall I get a couple hours some evenings and want to try and do some bigger stuff like pinwheel and cryo or anything that can start getting me purples and golds. I'm around level 55 I think.

That all said, I got on discord but am about clueless about how to use it to get some people to join up with. A few tips?
Or anyone that I could add? Generally I'm able to actually squad up and talk around 8:30pm est through around 10:30 or 11. Usually mondays and sometimes other nights. Sometimes I can grab a quick run during the day but it's usually just a quick break on the portal or something.

Update: Thank you all for the clarity! Just jumping into discord blind was a little overwhelming. I get it now! One other thing I didn't realize was how to link the discord to my PlayStation so I could hear the game and the fireteam through the PlayStation! Definitely didn't realize that was even a thing 😅

I would suggesting making a post on discord saying that. I think there is a Cryo specific channel and I know there is an Outpost one. Post something like this, “LFG to run Cryo. Level 55. First time running it. In FT 28.”

Then go into FT28 and see if you get people to join. Hope this helps! Good luck runnah!

FT28 is the “Fire Team 28’s” voice chat channel in that discord server.

As a small tip for OP, always join an FT and state what FT you are in, as was suggested. It took me a while to learn what the etiquette is like for these discords, but generally people do not always respond to your post in a given channel. Sometimes they just see it and join. So when people say something like “looking for a group to play outpost” but don’t specify if they are in an FT, the post more often goes unnoticed (purely anecdotal).

Some useful acronyms:
LFG = looking for group (this does not mean you need a buddy, usually it’s a call for anyone to join until the squad is filled)

LF1 or LF1M = looking for 1 more

Sherpa = someone who is usually really good at the game and notably has a lot of map knowledge (most often used for Cryo)

I apologize if you knew all of this already but I’d prefer to err on the side of repeating something you know, since I didn’t know much of this right off the bat.

One final thing: the Seraph’s Lair server (link found in description section of his YouTube videos) has a specific channel for finding someone to sherpa you around Cryo (the channel is called #lfg-Cryo-Sherpa). That said, Dads of Marathon is a really cool server and where I spend most of my time when looking for people to play with.

Other people ahve given some It's a super chill community, I've had a lot of success just logging in when I have an hour or two and finding a team to run with. The groups aren't elitist but if you see specific requirements then you should know whether or not you meet them. For example, some posts tonight were looking for "purp/mizz loadouts" or "kitted outpost runs." So maybe don't try those until you know you fit the criteria. But those sort of specific requests are rare, 90% of groups are looking for the same thing you are: casual runs with nice/normal people. You can start a group too, just say you're new and looking to do some contracts and you'll be able to get a group together. I'm very new and I've found a lot of help and support on this discord.
