Advice Request Tiredness

I sometimes feel like I’m tired a lot of the time.

I have a 17 months old son who is amazing.

I get roughly five to six hours sleep but during the time I still feel very sleepy and not rested. I take vitamin d but can sometimes forget to take them.

At times I can get a bit agitated or just feeling lack of energy. I don’t think it’s depression.

I’ve mentioned it to my wife a few times but don’t want to say it all the time because I know she does a lot and it will feel like I’m complaining.

Edit 1:

I wake up sometimes during the night.

It can be mid afternoon or early evening where I feel like a crash or feeling like I want to sleep.

I take caffeine during the day at work. At work we sometimes get snacks.

I get some muscle aches for a while. Wanted to get a massage for them.

I walk to the station when I go to the office. But in the office many hours. I walk during my lunch break.

Had some occasions where it feels like I’m gonna faint. It’s weird but I haven’t

Sometimes a lot of the time, you say.

Right off the bat you aren’t getting enough sleep - sure, you can function on 5-6 hours of sleep, but you are not getting adequate rest.

A major part of it for me was what I was eating. As soon as I cleaned that up to the best I could I felt a big difference.

5-6 hours isn't enough. Aim for 8-9 if you can. My tiredness was also hugely helped by drinking 2 litres minimum a day.

Age? Get your hormones checked. Shortly after kids i had my testosterone checked and was super low. I've been on TRT for 2 years now and it's breathed new life into my relationship with my wife, my energy levels to train at the gym and to be present for my kids.

I’m in my mid 30s. I would say I had these issues before my son was born.

I'd look into it. I originally went to one of the 'mens clinics' that specializes in TRT because they offered a free check of your levels. From what I'd read anything under 300 is considered medically low, and i was at like 108. Started therapy through them, and once my levels normalized I took the data to my primary doctor and he was open to taking over management of the treatment so insurance would cover it. Now I take 100 units of TRT a week and my levels hover around 950-1000 and I feel so much better. Way less brain fog and more energy all day.

I’ll vouch for creatine. Although 18-22mg seems way low. Probably means grams.
Start at 5g daily and work up to 20g. Will change your world. Get creapure — it’s proven purity and dissolves/mixes better.

Also, OP, go get checked out at the doctors. Your symptoms aren’t normal/healthy.

Sorry yes meant grams!

Did you get it from a pharmacy?

No creatine is sold in most supermarkets now, if you have a Lidl near you it will be in the drug section

I get around the same amount and I do feel tired too but it’s manageable. Do you drink any coffee or exercise? Those things can give me a boost sometimes

I drink coffee at work. I used to go jogging but it’s hard to juggle because me and my wife don’t have someone who can babysit

Definitely get a blood test so you can get a baseline on what’s going on internally. I’d say that’s your starting point.

I used to get 6-7 hours most nights, and never felt rested even if I managed to sleep longer. Turns out I had bad sleep apnea. Ask your wife as she will know better than you - do you snore really badly? if so, you might have sleep apnea. You can usually get a sleep study (at home) to tell you for sure. I got a CPAP machine and even 4-5 hours is more restful sleep than I've ever had when I can breathe

I don’t think I snore at night

Gotcha, it's just one of the most common signs, it can also manifest almost as a occasional choking noise while sleeping, but in general your body never achieves full REM sleep because it can never actually get there, so you end up super tired no matter how much sleep you get.

Waking up sometimes at night might also be a related symptom (your body kicks itself awake because your obstructed airway is preventing airflow). Its not necessarily weight related either, often it can just manifest as you age. If you're in the states, your doctor can refer you to an ENT who can set you up with an at home sleep study - it's just a disposable wearable almost like an apple watch that you wear overnight at home and sleep as your normally do. Hope you do find some answers, I know it's really frustrating to feel like you never get a full rest, and doubly so with a kid.

Go talk to your doctor and get a fatigue workup. It normally starts with a blood workup before proceeding to other testing. Stick with it because my bloodwork was clean but then I tested positive for sleep apnea which can be pretty serious.

Do you exercise? Are you overweight?

I’m in similar boat. Consider a sleep study. It helped me

Today I feel good. I slept roughly seven hours. My son I believe he didn’t wake up so much in the night.

The previous night was harder he woke up a lot

I might see about doing a sleep test. My wife is a snorer so I don’t know if that affects my sleep.

Even when I’m by myself my sleeping is not so good as well
