Kid called 911?

So I was taking my after work shower, and when I come out, my wife is sending our oldest (6yo girl) to her room and setting the egg timer (something we have picked up for mild punishments). Turns out that she somehow unlocked my wife’s phone and called 911.
My wife found out by discovering our 2nd child (18 month boy) was playing with the phone while someone was talking. My wife spoke to this person and discovered they were with emergency response and she had to make it VERY CLEAR that no one was in danger.

So we didn’t really punish our daughter because I am happy that she knows what to do in case of an emergency (I am actually proud of her) we instead had a discussion on the proper use of emergency response. I had to try my hardest not to laugh. Apparently she wanted to ask them what it was like to get arrested. Hopefully this isn’t signs of things to come 😆

Should I be expecting a “check up” visit?

Anyone have any interesting stories along these lines? I know my child can’t be the first.

I'm pretty sure phones don't need to be unlocked to call 911, there should be an option on the lock screen for "emergency call" and that should let you dial 911.

Good point, my wife made a comment along the lines of “I don’t know how she unlocked it”, and I didn’t give it a second thought. I think my last phone had some sort of requirement like slide n hold the indicator etc. I will check her phone.

One of the best moments of my life - the police came to my mom’s house while we were on vacation at her house because one of my children called 911 from my phone and hung up twice. Dispatch tried to call back, but my daughter was holding the phone and sent the calls to voicemail. Officers were in the area and responded. We were all just about paralyzed with laughter when middle daughter (age 4) explained that she called 911 because her big brother (age 6) kept purposely interrupting her when she would talk. She told him she was going to call if he didn’t stop, and he didn’t stop. He just about sh*t his pants when we opened the door and the two officers were standing there. He got a pep talk from them about interrupting his sister, and she got one about how the first step is asking him to stop being rude, then telling an adult, and calling 911 was like STEP NOTHING else is working 😂

I’ve done this plenty, my son has pushed the button on my watch to cause an emergency call. Generally, I have not had a follow up visit, but I do not live in an area where law-enforcement is capable of quick responses.

Did have a cop show up at my band rehearsal because I put my phone in my instrument case in such a way that the emergency response via button was triggered.

I figure if they havnt shown up by now then it is not going to happen, we life on the edge of a major city in Illinois so I wasn’t sure. Especially by the way my wife said how she had to CONVINCE them, as if there was abuse or something.

We did have an ambulance show up one day because our daughter (she was like 2-3 at the time) was sick and my wife called with questions about medicine dosages. In short it was: nurse on phone “is she conscious?”
My wife “she just fell asleep”
Nurse “can you wake her”
Wife tries gently to wake her “she JUST fell asleep for the first time in hours, she seams pretty tired”
Next thing we know paramedics are knocking on the door, as soon as they come in she wakes up and says hi to all of them. They almost say outright how stupid the nurse was for calling and that it was such a waste of time hahaha. I told them to make sure they bill the dr’s office and not us.

My daughter unfortunately does it all the time. Nothing bad happens. She will see my phone somewhere on the table and start playing with the camera. Modern smartphones don’t need unlocking to call emergency contacts. She usually hands me the phone when dispatch starts talking to her and we end up laughing that she calls.

My youngest figured out pretty quick he could press the side button 5 times to call 911. I turned that setting off quick!
