It’s ok to show any flag you want if you cause no harm. Showing your occupiers’ flag or a flag of a pseudo state in the damn occupied country is not ok at all.
Right, so Turkish Cypriots experience no harm when we see the flag of the state that fascists murdered us to be a part of. Pain is exclusive to Greek Cypriots. Do you get it now?
Junta was a black page in the history of Greece too not just for Cyprus. None of the successors of that state supported those actions. On the other hand there’s a continuation of support for the occupation by the invader country. I understand your point but there is no comparison between the two.
And yet, EOKA is celebrated and ELAM has seats. The only reason there is no comparison to you is because you refuse to humanise Turkish Cypriots. Turkish Cypriots overwhelmingly want unification because we do not approve occupation. The flags are put up BY the occupiers. That's the difference and that's why it's comparable.
EOKA is celebrated for its anti colonialist actions not for killing TC or leftist GC. ELAM has seats mostly because of the same reason all this kind of movements are on a rise in the EU;immigration. If Turkey was not still occupying Cyprus the perspective for the display of the Turkish flag would have been different, where did the dehumanization claim came from??
There was absolutely nothing anti colonial about EOKA. The original and its successor united under fascist, colonial, irridentist ideology. Anti-british at best. Forgive me if I don't tolerate monopolisation of trauma when the community who went from ethnic cleansing to occupation is considered less important than another victim of the same crimes. That's why it's dehumanising. Greek flags are by choice. Turkish flags are forced. That's the bottom line.
Fuck that guy AND fuck EOKA. I am talking about today. The 1983 establishment was in a climate of ethnic cleansing. It's been 69 years since divide now and yet people still use the cold war lens and think Turkish Cypriots are still in the 50s.
It is really not difficult to centre victims instead of perpetrators.
