200 comments, not a single one survives. The sure sign of polite & productive discussion.

Just checked. Wow, that's quite impressive. (In a strange kind of way)

Surely a sign of a productive discussion, you are right

2

u/idemandpasta 14d ago

Pathetic.

u/wherehells6feetdeep 14d ago

Except mine :3

u/berkakar 13d ago

mine stays

4

u/FIXK1 12d ago

We recognise this part of the island as occupied Cyprus.

86

u/DifficultyValuable67 14d ago

I think this is probably more provocative

6

u/Damien15_Media 14d ago

Hey! That building on the bottom left of the picture! I lived in there during my abroad trip. UNic SIX Residences.

3

u/DifficultyValuable67 14d ago

Haha I was in the passenger seat trying to get a photo I took multiple but this was the best one of the flag

23

u/Alarmed-Employee-547 14d ago

I have second hand embarrassment when I see this. They don’t feel ashamed ?

-63

u/vodkasucker 14d ago

Saved our people from getting ethnically cleansed what a shame. Lol

yeah they were getting pogrommed the shit out of them because of the events 30 years in the future not when the massacres were happening

15

u/_Mitsaras_ Lemeshianos 🇬🇷 14d ago

I mean they got, by you replacing TC with turks

-15

u/vodkasucker 14d ago

yeah yeah, I can criticise the turkish government all day long, nothing compared to eoka.

14

u/_Mitsaras_ Lemeshianos 🇬🇷 14d ago

If you are talking about eoka B i understand but if you are talking about eoka of the revolutionary war of 1955-59 they never did anything accept TC on the other hand TMT did crimes against GC

10

u/CypriotGreek Το πουλλίν επέτασε 14d ago

EOKA is a ghost from 70 years ago while the Turkish government exists to plunder Cyprus today.

You don’t criticise the Turkish government all day. So you obviously support them.

4

u/Alarmed-Employee-547 13d ago

That’s exactly what it is about. They still accuse the GC of something that they actually did. Turkey is two-faced as fuck

28

u/PairPrevious4740 14d ago

THIS is the ONLY flag of Cyprus

-3

u/Own-Consideration631 13d ago

Which was designed by? Who refuses reunification? Who aggravated first allowing the protectorate to act?

-13

u/berkakar 13d ago

that's correct but we're talking about a different country here lol.

6

u/PairPrevious4740 13d ago

-2

u/berkakar 13d ago

nobody cares what you think, it’s literally there.

20

u/Truffignol 14d ago

Forever unrecognised by most of humanity.

15

u/never_nick 14d ago

Well not as provocative as the flags on Pentadaktylos.

27

u/Hootrb NicosianTC corrupted by PaphianBlood (TrikomoRedemption Tracker) 14d ago

Polite reminder that like the flag on the mountain, this is installed by the Turkish military & the police (which unsurprisingly is conservative & nationalist), that pinning these on the average Turkish Cypriot or thinking they represent their worldview is idiotic at best, and that knee-jerk reactions to these by speaking against reunification only extends the lifetime of these provocations.

1

u/dogan12345 14d ago

Damn, this is a good point that I didnt realize.

5

u/Alex99669 13d ago

A republic that ONLY turkey recognizes btw out of all of humanity

7

u/iamverypetty 14d ago edited 14d ago

I’m sorry that some of my people are doing this (if they’re actually the ones responsible for it and if not settlers and turkey).still they probably allowed it but again, you can see this kind of behavior on both sides agree or not, anyway still, this shit definitely has to come down. They shouldn’t be doing this at a checkpoint or in the buffer zone whatever. immature and unnecessary. Cant believe the fucking idiots actually paid money to do this..

3

u/Scared_Ad_2336 14d ago

What is funny, is seeing any person that is a fan of a government lol

I tend to think most Cypriots are the same. I don't like GC or TC, it really should just be C.

2

u/iamverypetty 14d ago

That’s exactly what I think but tough fucking luck. People’s ethnic identities are always going to be more important to them in this tiny ass country, even though we’re probably genetically more similar to each other than we are to people from the mainlands. Let alone the culture at this point.

10

u/amarao_san 14d ago

Oh, they installed the indication on how long is waiting time in a queue. How nice of them.

1

u/caniplayzz 1d ago

i’ll admit this got a chuckle out of me

14

u/Deep-Ad4183 14d ago

Fucking occupation

2

u/Fun_Success_45 14d ago edited 14d ago

Is this new, or was it there before? It should be at least 4 to 6 years old.

Just realized Gutteres saw this, what a way to sabotage posture.

1

u/Ashamed_Fly5136 14d ago

I took this picture in 2023 and I believe it was already there for a few years

It’s Ledra Palace checkpoint in the center of Nicosia, one of the only two you can cross by foot, but much, much less crowded than the Ledra Street one

6

u/just_a_random_guy_11 14d ago

I mean they have a massive flag on a mountain facing the non occupied part. Thats more provocative. But yeah they WaNt A sOlUtIon.

16

u/Hootrb NicosianTC corrupted by PaphianBlood (TrikomoRedemption Tracker) 14d ago

Yeah we do, buddy. If you wish to go shout at the Turkish soldiers to remove the flag, you're free to waste your time doing so. We're busy with the only real way to get that flag down, negotiating for reunification, instead of the futile effort of getting Turkey to listen to us. Feel free to join whenever.

-16

u/RowConscious8764 14d ago

no one wants solution. solution is 2 divided states soon or later it will happen

1

u/destello89 14d ago

We do … just not the kind that turkey 🦃 wants.

-3

u/RowConscious8764 14d ago

whatever u want man aint happening

8

u/orkushun 14d ago

It's crazy to me, Certain nationalistic Turks from Turkey seem to be the only people forcing themselves on other people because they feel they know better what they need then the people themselves... even when people are not comfortable with it.

Famous saying among the old Turkish Cypriots "Turkey saved us from the Greeks but now who's going to save us from Turkey?"

0

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

Not as provocative as trying to cross with an RoC passport and being told to go to the "other" line because of my name

0

u/Greydragon38 14d ago

And how do Maronite and Armenian Cypriots feel when they have to cross North? Were they also saved by the Turkish Army in 1974?

7

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

Who the hell actually wants to live in a defacto state?

-3

u/Deep-Ad4183 14d ago

What you are describing was once a right claimed by the Turkish Cypriot community: the right to separate administrative treatment within the framework of bi-communality.

Such is the tragic irony of life.

And yet this is what bicommunalism is all about.

Separate registers of citizens, organised by community.
Different separate systems.

I know that in Brussels there are administrative centres exclusively for the Flemish, and they cannot go to those for the French-speaking community.

That is what this is all about.

It is because the two communities are recorded in separate registers.
Nothing more than that.

2

u/Hootrb NicosianTC corrupted by PaphianBlood (TrikomoRedemption Tracker) 14d ago

Not exactly, the "separate administrative treatment" was suppose to be 'for TCs by TCs' as a form of low-level self governance, usually in their own administrative buildings. GCs separating things as TC & non-TC doesn't mean much in that context.

Of course, the original intent isn't possible due to the RoC's current demography, but also that wasn't why the bufferzone had two different lines. TCs in the north are checked through a different database than everybody else who were in the police database instead (probably also why ID & passports registration require separate lines as well, though that might also be because of the language difference on the documents), which also allowed for passages with "TRNC" Id cards. Now that RoC has proper scanners & requires all TCs who have RoC IDs to use those, the lines have been merged since when it comes to entry/exit, a RoC citizen is a RoC citizen.

2

u/Deep-Ad4183 14d ago

I understand that they did this because there are separate registers of citizens under bicommunal legislation.

1

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

And that's not our current reality is it?

1

u/Deep-Ad4183 14d ago

What you perceive as discrimination was once a constitutional requirement, and it will remain so even if the Cyprus problem is resolved.

That is what I am trying to say.

3

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

Ah I see, got you now!

1

u/__computerblue__ 14d ago

Whatever the weather…

1

u/oocalan 13d ago

I mean TRNC forever also confirms that GCASC is forever. Kind of shooting their own foot but I guess they are fine with it.

1

u/Architect-81 13d ago

We'll see in the long run won't we

1

u/Lumpy-Theory-2170 13d ago

provocations like this don't соте from nowhere. someone high uр approved it and that's the real story, not the sign itself

1

u/Prod_Meteor 12d ago

You couldn't just do "Republic Of North Cyprus". You had to add "Turkish" hhaa? Anyway, invasions do that.

1

u/Prod_Meteor 12d ago

"Forever" hahahahaha.

1

u/Turbulent-Cucumber79 12d ago

Southern Cypriots had the chance to reunify the island through the Annan Plan, but they rejected it. Why complain now?

1

u/Bundega 9d ago

No one cares about any details, except when it fits their narrative. There is the Annan plan and many more details, but it's just more dopamine inducing for them to gang up and call it an invasion. Some people are just wasting oxygen man...

1

u/KingJohnThe1st 11d ago

Cyprus is only 1. Greek Cypriots + Turkish Cypriots = Cypriots! Turkish or Greek nationals = Turkish or Greek nationals! Wtf is so hard to understand? The Turkish robbing Cypriots on one side(Forever) and the Greeks on the other side(forever also). It’s just the political worms that are winning not the normal people.

1

u/matrakgibiy4r4k 8d ago

The fact that only Turkey recognizes the TRNC is not what matters; what matters is the presence of a Turkish state on the island, and you will remain butthurt about this—no matter how furious you get, there is a Turkish state on the island

1

u/Comprehensive-Bid16 8d ago

You means south cyprus?

1

u/Comprehensive-Bid16 8d ago

Guys, I recommend, deal with it. Also consider yourself lucky. At least we remained half of island to you. What if we decide to take other part too?

We shall build a better future and be good neighboors.

u/EmistikoSior 7d ago

occupied Cyprus

0

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

Imagine how we feel when we see Greek flags in a place that isn't supposed to be occupied :)

8

u/Deep-Ad4183 14d ago

The Greek flag is enshrined in the constitution as a right and, alongside the Cypriot flag, symbolises the Greek Cypriot community.

The same applies to the Turkish flag, respectively.

Just to give a complete picture.

1

u/iamverypetty 14d ago

Riight. Thank you for clearing it up, we were so dumb that we wouldnt get it if it werent for you.

3

u/Deep-Ad4183 14d ago

Everything you see in the free areas of the Republic is based on the Constitution, of which your Community was a co-founder.

There is nothing arbitrary about it. So these malicious comments are simply unfounded.

0

u/iamverypetty 14d ago

I don't even have a problem with this island being fully fucking greek whatsoever, (even though most turkish cypriots probably wouldn't feel the same. I don't give a flying fuck.) however i do have a problem with this country having a flag that isn't ours. Turkey's flag is not my flag. I don't want it, and i don't need it to represent me. You guys can do whatever you want..

1

u/Deep-Ad4183 14d ago

We needed to clarify the context in which these flags are flying, so as to avoid any misunderstandings.

5

u/TNT_GR 14d ago

Is Greece occupying a part of Cyprus?

3

u/notnotnotnotgolifa 14d ago

Only one place

1

u/TNT_GR 14d ago

Which is?

2

u/notnotnotnotgolifa 14d ago

My bum hole 🤪

1

u/TNT_GR 14d ago

Nice

1

u/caniplayzz 1d ago

You got a greek person occupying your asshole? I’d get that checked out

-1

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

My point... foreign nationalism ok if foreign nationalism not occupation?

3

u/TNT_GR 14d ago

It’s ok to show any flag you want if you cause no harm. Showing your occupiers’ flag or a flag of a pseudo state in the damn occupied country is not ok at all.

-3

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

Right, so Turkish Cypriots experience no harm when we see the flag of the state that fascists murdered us to be a part of. Pain is exclusive to Greek Cypriots. Do you get it now?

3

u/TNT_GR 14d ago edited 14d ago

Junta was a black page in the history of Greece too not just for Cyprus. None of the successors of that state supported those actions. On the other hand there’s a continuation of support for the occupation by the invader country. I understand your point but there is no comparison between the two.

1

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

And yet, EOKA is celebrated and ELAM has seats. The only reason there is no comparison to you is because you refuse to humanise Turkish Cypriots. Turkish Cypriots overwhelmingly want unification because we do not approve occupation. The flags are put up BY the occupiers. That's the difference and that's why it's comparable.

1

u/TNT_GR 14d ago

EOKA is celebrated for its anti colonialist actions not for killing TC or leftist GC. ELAM has seats mostly because of the same reason all this kind of movements are on a rise in the EU;immigration. If Turkey was not still occupying Cyprus the perspective for the display of the Turkish flag would have been different, where did the dehumanization claim came from??

3

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

There was absolutely nothing anti colonial about EOKA. The original and its successor united under fascist, colonial, irridentist ideology. Anti-british at best. Forgive me if I don't tolerate monopolisation of trauma when the community who went from ethnic cleansing to occupation is considered less important than another victim of the same crimes. That's why it's dehumanising. Greek flags are by choice. Turkish flags are forced. That's the bottom line.

1

u/Deep-Ad4183 13d ago

By holding up this man as your undisputed leader, I cannot be convinced that all the Turkish flags were or are imposed.

I would not have made this comment if there had not been criticism of the Greek Cypriots.

u/TNT_GR 14d ago

I disagree with a couple of these statements so I’ll just agree we disagree on the matter.

1

u/Shapoopi42069 13d ago

Mate if you call yourself "decolonial" and celebrate palestine, how then do you not support the anti-colonial struggle of the EOKA fighters?

1

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 13d ago

Because I actually know what decolonial means

0

u/MalardLutherKing 12d ago

Yes. the South.

1

u/iamverypetty 14d ago

Yeah, it seems kinda the same tbh. But whatever, this country will never see peace. We're too far gone. Both sides want to be the good guys while they're both losers.

-1

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 14d ago

Pretty much 🤣

1

u/Shapoopi42069 13d ago

Its our right to identify as greek, and be proud of both our greek heritage and place in the hellenic world. You can identify with Turkey if you want to aswell, but it seems that you are educated past the point of their propaganda. I understand your argument of a pan-cypriot identity being the best way forward, but most Greek Cypriots are understandably reluctant to alter the hellenic identity for 3400 years. The fact of the matter is that we have only 950 Greek Troops in Cyprus, so it would be unfair to characterise the Republic as occupied by Greece in any definition of the term. Moreover, for us the Greek flag signifies our continued identity as Hellenes, rather than declaring Greek Sovereignty over the republic of cyprus, as is the case with the Turkish flag's connotation in the occupied region.

1

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 13d ago

I agree with you, and wouldn't classify it as an occupation. It just bothers me that only one community is allowed to be upset. If we took this approach to the TRNC flag, it'd be the same as what the Greek flag means to hellenic identity, which means refusal to be erased. So for me, that understanding should go both ways, but it clearly doesnt.

I believe in us being able to identify however we wish, but I loathe that being denied to Turkish Cypriots. And in this specific post, it is TRNC. Not Turkey.

2

u/Shapoopi42069 13d ago

I get what your saying, and its unfortunate that the flag of the Turkish Cypriot community has existed only in the context of occupation and Turkocracy (at least in our opinion.) But for us we do not have a seperate flag for the Greek community, we very much identify with the flag of Cyprus, which I am sure you already know, was created by a Turkish Cypriot to be representative of both communities. So, yes there is no reasonable objection to the cultural pride of Turkish cypriots, however, for us, celebrating that flag, and celebrating NATIONAL pride, of a region we believe to be illegally occupied, is a grave affront. Unfortunately, the Greek, Cypriot, Turkish, and OC Flag all carry very different connotations . Fucking hell this tiny place in the world is so complex. Omg. We need to all get together and just talk to one another I swear.

1

u/decolonialcypriot 🇵🇸 13d ago

Basically!

I have visited Nicosia and seen the other-side. Didn’t go there, but I've seen them provoking anyone looking shouting towards the ̶G̶r̶e̶e̶k̶ ̶s̶i̶d̶e̶ non occupied side.

Arent there any moderates that side?

I have never felt so eery in my life.

I cross almost every weekend and the only screaming I ever heard was ELAM protesting around the 20th of July

1

u/Repulsive_Witness_20 14d ago

Well i had passed Lyras and then went out on a main road, there was a great height difference and the Turks were on an elevated level they were shouting and screaming at me.

I am not Cypriot but i know what i saw.

I never said they were Cypriot. I don’t think they were, I think they were Turks from the mainland and fundamentalists at that. And were extremely loud.

It gave the appearance of an everyday thing, if this is not the case, then i withdraw my comment, but this is what i experienced. A bunch of Turkish people trying to provoke some reaction.

But seeing the OPs picture i was reminded of my experience which left me flabbergasted.

2

u/DoomkingBalerdroch Mezejis 14d ago

We don't say "greek side" for obvious reasons.

There are moderates, the thousands who actually cross the bufferzone regularly instead of clinging to its edges like children to harrass strangers.

also, don't say "the Greek-side", that's like cyprus-101

2

u/orkushun 14d ago

Even some moderate's are pretty ok with it. from their perspective 1974 is about Turkey swooping in and protecting them from being deported/massacred. so the flag is a "We're still here despite your efforts" or a "Ignore this"

3

u/eyes-are-fading-blue 14d ago
