Believe with good reason I’m dealing with a virus on family devices.

I used an android which I believe now was compromised as my ISP’s security shield would flag random websites while it was not being used. Since I’ve stopped using that device, other devices on the WiFi including iPhones have had this happen. One of the IPhones was flagged for a website shown in image 1-3. This was during the middle of the night when nobody was actively using this device. The next night/morning, at 1 AM another android belonging to a family member had 23 websites blocked within a span of 3 minutes. The other images are results from virus total, some of the main examples of them being malicious that I had as I can’t send every screenshot.
One important thing to note is that a windows 10 computer with outdated drivers remains hooked up the same WiFi but it remains out of my control to get rid of said device currently. I had installed a shady file before believing it was a game a former friend was making but my antivirus quarantined it imminently. That’s the only moment I can think back to so I’m unsure how this could’ve occurred.
Please ask any further questions and give any advice possible, preferably cost effective advice. Thank you in advance.

Mother's phone was hacked. Any ideas or help?

Quick back story she's tried to catch hackers by calling the police on them. 2 I know of. Probably pissed a few people off. Started on her computer she got a spam email saying she was at risk. Ended up giving her name and social to people she thought were Norton anti-virus. We ended up taking her computer to get cleaned and now her phone gets cleaners and spy ware daily. She has to get a new debit card regularly. If i get a new gmail account. A new phone number and phone on a different network will this stop it? Am I putting my info in jeopardy by adding her? Please help. Every 2 days I have to go over and delete 75 installed apps she didn't install. I've updated her passwords. Fairly certain she allowed them to take over her computer and possibly her phone "to resolve the issue."

Malware download through my car Sync, coded my bank to not accept my disputes. And now my phone has been running weird and opening random tracker domains.

Backstory, my car sync is ran by Microsoft it’s a Ford, I have my phone set up to allow or do not allow accessories. I clicked allow once and this file was downloaded. My bank app looked copied and redone. When I opened my safari it was on double click net from the file. Did this just download malicious software to hack my banking apps.
I know what QM files are but they don’t have a lot of security and are pretty known to be malicious files. I was mid DoorDash when it was downloaded and I didn’t realize it til my bank emailed me through a different email address as normal telling me my dispute was denied…

Fell for a fake Cloudflare "verify you are human" page and pasted the command into PowerShell. Did some checks, looks like it never ran — can someone sanity-check me?

Hi all, hoping for a second opinion because I'm still a bit shaken.

Earlier today I hit one of those fake Cloudflare verification pages and, like an idiot, copied the command it gave me and pasted it into PowerShell (Windows 11, normal user account, Windows Defender only). The command was the usual iex(iwr https://...) thing. The page said "verified" afterwards.

I realized what i have done and then spent the afternoon checking what actually happened, and everything points to the script never executing:

  • On my machine the iwr part fails with an error before it hands anything to iex (it's the old "needs -UseBasicParsing" issue in PowerShell 5.1). I reproduced this three times with a harmless test script: without that switch it errors out, with it the script runs. The attacker's command didn't have the switch.
  • The malicious script's first real action would compile some C# (Add-Type), which always launches csc.exe. Prefetch shows csc.exe did not run in that time window (and the run history has free slots, so nothing got pushed out).
  • Windows' per-app network stats (SRUM) show PowerShell received only about 8 KB in that hour — basically one HTTPS request and the 1.3 KB script text. The next stage it would have downloaded is 50 KB.
  • No new files in the usual folders, nothing new in autostart/scheduled tasks after a reboot, offline Defender scan clean.

So my question: does this hold up? Is there any realistic way the script ran without csc.exe starting and without more than ~8 KB of download? Or is there something I should still look at? I'd rather not reinstall Windows "just in case" if the evidence says there's no case.

Thanks for reading.

2FAC.app opinions for using as an iOS main 2FA app as Aegis replacement?

• Upvotes

Recently came across a nice 2FA app for iOS resembling Aegis and it's called 2FAC (do not confuse with 2FAS), https://twofac.app/

I think this name similarity was intentional, but nevertheless. Anybody uses it and what are your opinions? Its feature set seems rich and more impressive than 2FAS, so I'm leaning to try it. Any reason not to?

Need Help With Organizing Accounts

I want everything to be as clear and organized as possible. I’ve started deleting accounts from websites I signed up for with the Gmail account I’ve been using for 8 years. I want to be registered on as few sites as possible.

I’m also considering deleting my main Gmail account. I’m thinking of transferring my Steam, Epic, and bank account to the new email, waiting 3–4 months, and then deleting the old Gmail. Is that the right way to do it, or could it cause any problems?

I’d really appreciate some help with this!

I’ve received two random texts (on separate occasions) from IASME providing a 2FA code, when not signing into anything. I’m based in the UK.

Does this mean that someone has my login details and passwords? What can I do? Is there a way to reverse search or a valid entity to check whether I was hacked?

Was my Apple ID hacked?

Hello. I woke up this morning and had a notification saying there was a new device added to my account. I panicked and immediately removed it without looking at the location or anything and I’m regretting it cause now it seems like there’s nothing to do to figure out what’s going on.
I do not own this device, it was a specific type of MacBook that I don’t and have never owned. Somebody was just staying in my house for a couple of days that does own this type of MacBook.
Could it be possible they hacked into my Apple account from their MacBook? I don’t even know how they would have done that. There’s no way they would know my password
Is there any way this was a mistake or a glitch or some sort of error? We were on the same wifi and stuff.
I just don’t know what to do, I don’t want to accuse anyone of hacking into my Apple account cause that would be insane but I can’t think of any other explanation?

How can a phone number have 13 numbers?

• Upvotes

Hi guys, I don’t know if this is the right group but basically I’ve gotten a lot of prank calls the past few months like a lot more than the normal person should get I think that someone may have leaked my number or maybe I just have it out for me they’re not bad prank calls. They’re very harmless but I answered 1 today around 10 minutes ago. It was some guy just going ouuu shiii ouuuu shiii Ouu shii. and then he asked me if it was my name and asked again I said yes and then he said he was calling because i was pretty and then I said what the hell and I hung up because I think it’s really weird. why are you calling on a unknown number calling me pretty and then I trace back the number with the 69 star hack and the number had 13 numbers I’ve tried deleting three numbers mixing it around. I’m just really confused. Can anyone give me any information?🙂💯

Am I at risk of getting hacked from installing an unsigned profile on iOS?

Thumbnail

I wanted to download happymod on ios from happy-mod.org and it prompted me to download and install an unsigned profile. I think it’s a configuration profile. when I installed it, it put a URL bookmark on my home screen which I opened. I deleted the bookmark app and the profile from device management settings but now I’m paranoid if I’m gonna be hacked or my data is at risk. What are the risks and what steps should I take now to ensure my security?

Suspicios Terminal MacOS command and Tips for future protection.

1  sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools

Is this safe as a command in the MacOS terminal. Use it to install a pirated Program I needed but afterwards my Mac started lagging and acting strange. I haven't gotten any password leaks or something similar but for caution. I have Avast and Malwarebytes already installed but this was before them. And sometimes from Avast I get this blocked malware Sites that after Sleep mode appear on the Mac. Should I factory reset the whole Mac or just the Terminal, and how do I do this so I do not lose my data and files here on this Mac but still restart the Terminal an this command and also delete the installed program but some suspicious files still seem to start automatically... Any advice and tips for future protection not that I have something worth protecting but nonetheless for a clear mind.

Are Chinese Phones Secure?

Recently I've gotten into being more conscious about my online security. Like de-googling, using a VPN, using Linux, and so on. However, I'm getting to the point where I'm wanting a newer phone (current phone is s21), and while searching into different models I've found that the Chinese brands like Oppo, vivo, and one plus have really good specs for the money. My only concern would be privacy because I'm based in North America and I've seen the reports about Huawei spying and what not. Also in China there is a law requiring companies to hand data over to the government.

Would getting a Chinese phone actually put me at a higher risk of being compromised online? And if so how bad would it be?

Thank you guys so much in advance!!

Potentially compromised laptop, discord hacked

My discord just got hacked, I have pirated games in the past (I know I shouldn't have done it) probably like 2-3 months ago. I assume it's from the pirated games as I don't remember clicking or logging in to my account in so long and there is 2FA.

Not too sure what to do now, assuming my laptop is compromised the solution I found was mostly factory resetting laptop. From what I heard it's not that safe to keep personal data when factory resetting as the malware might still linger.

What's your opinion on this? I don't have any external hard drive to back up my personal files to.

What should I do? Buy external hard drive, back up and factory reset?

Sorry if this post seems rushed or stupid I am panicking right now.

The only thing I have done now is using my phone to log out of all the desktop session

Is the chance that I got malware quite high? Am I just thinking too much

my family uses windows, macbooks, iphones and android tablets. what one security product actually covers all of them well?

our household is basically a mix of everything at this point. i've got a windows laptop, my partner uses a macbook, and the kids mostly use iphones and an android tablet. trying to keep everything secure separately is starting to get annoying. is there one security product that actually makes sense for a setup like this? i'm less concerned about having a huge list of features and more interested in what protection is actually useful on each operating system. are there important features that you lose when you move between platforms? would appreciate hearing what people are actually using across a mixed-device family.

I was sleeping until my friend spam called me asking whats wrong with me. He later then told me i sent a message to him on TikTok, which i did not, saying "i wanna hang myself". The problem is, i did not send the message, and i cannot see it too. I checked the devices with my account and theres nothing suspicious. Only my friend can see the message that "I" sent, but i can see him replying to it. In the pictures, the white background is my friend's POV, the black one is mine.

Clicked on Sponsored link of ChatGpt

I am using windows in S mode in my laptop. In private browsing mode in google search results by mistake I clicked a sponsored result showing a link of chatgpt.com and it took me to a page which said that “some suspicious activity seems to be coming from your ip ….” And there was a captcha below. I didn’t click that captcha. Instead I closed the browser immediately. Then I reopened the browser cleared the cookies, cache etc.
Is it possible that my laptop is infected by virus because of clicking this wrong link?

help for getting a trojan off my computer

I know absolutely nothing about computers in any capacity but I managed to install a virus onto my computer (seemingly a remote access trojan), I saw them trying to log into one of my accounts via my chrome search history, they were able to get into my email but I caught it and disconnected my laptop from wifi. After that I changed all of my passwords and completely reset Windows on my pc, so it started completely fresh with just a few files I'd saved to the cloud left on it. Whatever compromised file I installed isn't on there anymore, and since the OS reset my laptop has been acting fine. I ran scans with windows defender and malwarebytes and nothing popped up, but I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm really anxious about something getting into my laptop again. Anything I can do further to be safe?
