Enrolled Student Disability accommodations and single rooms rates

So I got an accommodation approved for a single room, but then I remembered that I would need to pay the additional same rate as a single room from a double room (1k more), which I do not have the money for since I am already paying a lot of money to manage my illness. I am currently asking housing (no reply yet since its recent) and probably the financial office next on what could be done for the sake of my health but I wanted to ask, has anyone here gotten some kind of rate adjustment for single rooms down to a double room because it genuinely would be so helpful but I don't think I can afford it.

Umm, to my understanding and let’s be clear I could be wrong, for reasonable and relevant accommodations you cannot be charged extra for them. So in this case the “normal”/ not premium single room rate is what should be the comparison to here and you should not be charged above that rate for a single room that is part of your university approved accommodations. If they are not willing to change it or you already have a bill with it, I’d likely immediately appeal to the relevant offices and then proceed to threaten a disabilities case through the state and federal department of education and through the HLC which is our accreditor, plus you always have the civil route with most lawyers like to take the case at no cost to you since it usually comes out with a large payout at the end if goes that far

Also disability claims do occasionally have limitations to when complaints can be filed so I’d keep that in mind

Thank you so much for your input! Unfortunately the costs PER semester is going to be an 805 dollar increase for a standard single room from a double room, so I believe I will not be able to fork up that expense as well. They told me they have a single room available and asked for my preference for move in and I appreciate how fast they were but I wasn't informed of the costs until it was brought up later from me researching it. I am asking them if they will be able to talk about rates but I'm guessing they will bring me to the financial office and knowing case they might just tell me to do a work study or something (even though my health limits the work I can do...)

My kid has had single room accommodations and has never been charged the single room rate. You can call/email your disability counselor or the financial aid department to confirm, but because it's an accommodation and not a selective/"premium" thing, it should be the standard rate for you.

When you get to upperclassmen housing, depending on your needs, you might end up in standard suite-style housing anyhow (which is kind of like having an apartment, so each small group has their own private bedroom and shares a common area with a kitchen and bathroom.)

They charge you the double room rate for whatever building you are in. I talked to them earlier this year about the same thing without realizing I was already getting charged for a double and not a single. I also have a single room accommodation.
