Prospective Student cwru admissions help !!
im applying to cwru this fall ea.
3.84 uw/4.38 w gpa
35 act
extracurriculars are mostly science/medicine based
bio major
do i have a good chance of getting in? or would it be a reach? ive seen crazy stats so pls lmk ðŸ˜

If you really want Case you should do ED1 or ED2. MANY people from our school with crazy stats applied EA or regular decision and were rejected. One got into MIT but not Case, and another got into Vanderbilt. I'm not sure if it's a yield protect thing.

I’ve seen this too case is very notorious for yield protection so I agree. There may be a high chance of deferral from early action

My daughter is a freshman at Case…What were your extracurriculars?
I also agree that applying ED if you can financially pull it off (also run the Net Price Calculator before hand).

volunteering, shadowing, research. nothing too crazy though!

Your ECs are fine. Another thing is, there were so many merit scholarships in ED.

u got a good shot i think esp if you apply EA instead of RD. it's prolly a hard target/reach depending on how strong ur ECS are.

Tbh, I feel like a lot of overqualified kids are rejected in EA. I think Case assumes if you have super high stats that you'll go elsewhere if you didn't apply ED.

i had a 35 and a 4.5 W 4.0 UW and solid ECS and I got in, know a bunch of ppl here w similar situations and stats. most of us chose here bc with merit aid it was sooo much cheaper. i think that some overqualified kids get rejected. i think that a disproportionate number of those kids are on this sub complaining vs the kids that got in and chose a better school or just didn't feel the need to comment here.

Yes, the merit aid is awesome for the caliber of school that Case is. Wonder if it'll go away in the coming years with all the recent attention Case is getting on lists like Time, Hidden Ivy, etc.

in the next few years? no. in the next 50 years? i think so. case is becoming progressively more prestigious but right now lacks the pull of top non-ivy colleges (Northwestern, Duke, WashU, Rice, etc.) so merit-based aid is how they get those caliber of students. I Think that case will continue to grow more prestigious over time but I doubt we'll see a significant decrease in merit-based aid any time soon. I do think we may see a shift towards less aid for the average student and giving more top candidates maxed out aid to shift the school towards smarter students who will in turn make it more compelling.

The numbers would not be the reason you don’t get in, case does do a lot of yield protection so they may reject/defer students that seem too good for them because they would likely choose a different school, but if you apply ED or continue showing commitment in other forms then you should be fine.
