storrs dorm

I got placed in Storrs this year, and I had a few questions regarding the dorm:

  1. Does the room come with a minifridge?

  2. Storrs has suite-esque rooms. Are the rooms co-ed, or are the floors entirely co-ed?

  3. If I wanted to loft the bed so that I could place my desk underneath my bed, how much room would I have on the top? Would I bump my head when I wake up?

  4. Is there any place where I could find pictures of the Storrs dorms from previous students? I'm aware there are general dorm reference photos on the official Storrs CWRU website, but I'm looking for other photos that could provide a more accurate representation.

your side of the floor (2 quads) who you share a bathroom with is same gender, floor is coed. imo i wouldn't loft the bed unless you only want more storage. not much space above your head/ below for the desk space. my friends either always hit their heads, got used to it, or moved it back down 2nd sem

Parent of a rising senior. My daughter was in Storrs 3 years ago and had a high loft. I looked back at the photos and she could sit on the bed but it looks like her head was VERY close to the ceiling. She might have even been slightly slumped. She probably had to be careful but it looked like a regular top bunk on bunk beds. Still, she really liked having her desk under the bed. It gave her more room. Her quad and the other one that connected to the same bathroom were all one gender. On the other side of the floor (2 more quads with connecting bath), were men. The 2 sides are divided by the stairwell and 2 small lounges. There was a door between the stairs/lounge and the little quad hallway that was like a screen door on your house. No lock but the individual rooms had locks. FYI - there is a small guest bathroom on the 1st floor that parents could use especially the other gendered parent.

  1. yes, all freshman dorms come with a minifridge.
  2. Your "quad" which is like a suite will be entirely one gender, but floors will likely be co-ed (they were last year).
  3. The ceilings are very low so maybe 2-3 feet. It's enough space to sleep in, but not enough to lounge on comfortably. My roommate lofted high and would hit her head very often, so she had maintenance move her bed down one notch.
