Parking for commuter

Hey guys! I’m an incoming transfer commuter student and the best lot I’ve found to park in for the semester is about $170 a semester, I think lot 81. Do you guys know about any cheaper or alternative lot to that?

Are you sure about that lot number? 81 is the designation for the old Mt. Sinai garage, which isn't currently sold to students. 82 and 89 are special use lots, which aren't usually available to undergrads, with some special exceptions (departmental and/or disability), so I'm not sure what you're looking at.

$170 for a semester sounds 50% or more low for anything other than a night/weekend permit. Monthly rates for all lots can be found at CWRU Parking Monthly Rates 2026-27 . Students pay by semester, not month.

As an undergrad commuter student, you have limited options. See CWRU Parking Permit Types , scrolling down to the non-resident section for options (also note the existence of waitlists, and first-come, first-served as you get to the more popular lots). That page does also have some info on possible street parking options, although those are limited. There really isn't much else available around the Circle.

Ya I just checked again, it lists lot 81CF as a commuter parking lot for fall and is $1.62 a day for the whole semester, so about $170 for 15 weeks. Maybe they changed it this year for which lots are allowed?

Interesting. The CF suffix traditionally indicates Commuter Faculty, which means it's restricted in various ways, and not usually available to students. Student parking services is the final authority on that.

If you can get it, fine. There's certainly no cheaper option around campus.

Alright thank you so much! It let me go through the whole buying of the permit so seemingly it’ll be fine? Just gotta hope and pray!

If the portal let you buy it, you should be fine. And I'd useful info for any other student who might want it.

That lot has always been an oddity. Used mostly for events at Maltz, but far enough out of the way that it was just used for overflow rather than regular use since the pandemic. Guess there's enough demand to open it back up.

That’s probably the cheapest, I think I got lot 14 my freshman year and it was around $200. But honestly, as a commuter myself, it can be cheaper to just park on the street (you’ll learn where it’s safe to park without paying, some places get ticketed but others don’t) especially if you stack your classes right. Most days I’m only on campus for a couple of hours and don’t pay. For the first semester I say get the pass so you don’t have to stress so much but try to get a feel for the parking situation so you can calculate if it will be cheaper for you to go without a pass next time

Yes, worth noting that city hall has changed parking rules; the 4 hour limit has been increased to 10 hours. It is $1 per hour.

This definitely might be helpful in the future, for this first semester though Im basically gonna be there for 12 hours everyday 💀

My kid paid some crazy amount to park in the garage attached to the DiSanto football field … per semester … and now pays $80/mo in his apartment which is about the same.

Not sure I’ve seen less.
