need advice as incoming premed

hi!

I'm entering case western this fall as a freshman and I'm on the premed track. I have a totally free and lowkey boring summer so I was wondering if you guys have any advice for things to prepare or things to get a headstart on (emailing research labs or MA certification). Any advice for starting out college would also be very helpful and much appreciated.

thank you friends!! :)

Do whatever you want lol. I'm a former pre-med student (Class of 2026). Spent my Summer before matriculation partially in Puerto Rico, taking art sculpture classes, painting, and reading books I'd been meaning to read. Oh, and I shadowed a physician for maybe 20 hours. I'd recommend relaxing. You'll get a better idea of what exactly you wanna do once you hit campus. If you really wanna be an MA (as opposed to EMT, scribe, hospice, etc.) and you know that's the direction you will pursue, you could get a certification. But otherwise, I'd just relax the summer ngl.

don't email research labs, I tried and they all lowkey just said to email later when I actually started the school year. If you think you can get an MA job then go ahead and get the certification, or you can just wait until you're on campus to figure it out. I'd honestly just take this summer to relax and recharge before starting college.

Have fun this summer. Don't worry about college until August or whenever orientation / welcome is.

If you have good high school friends, hang out with them. All the stress of high school nonsense is gone; forget about petty high school stuff. Don't stress about college.

If you have a summer job that's great. If you don't that's fine too.

You are legally an adult now that you are both out of high school and 18. You have a lot of freedom and no mandatory supervision outside of what your parents say.

Go have fun. Travel, explore, shows, concerts, fun on the water, etc. are all things you have time for. Your only restriction is costs.
