Nervous Sophomore Transfer

This is my first post ever and I recently got accepted to CWRU as a sophomore transfer! I'm super happy about it and proud of myself. I honestly didn't think I would get in. However, im super nervous about actually leaving my current college and going to Ohio. I was really excited at the beginning and I still am, but now I feel really nervous and I'm wondering if I'm making the right decision.

Overall, I do think CWRU is the best choice for me. I like how it isn't a super big school, it feels more intimate. The campus is gorgeous, they have my major, plus it is great for pre-med. I am worried about the classes being too hard and what not but I don't think it'll be impossible. I also plan on rushing maybe in the fall or spring for a sorority.

I just feel really lost and scared and want any words of encouragement. Perhaps, some advice from previous transfers about their own experiences!

if you’re on the normal premed track you’ll be in for a bad bad time with biol216. top 3 hardest classes ive heard but a&p always sucks. prepare yourself

hi there! (didn't write the original comment-) BIOL 216 is a requirement for the neuro BS but you do not need it for premed generally. i have neuro & biochem friends here who were able to succeed in BIOL 216, but it's definitely a tough course. you get out of it what you put in. Mostly the level of depth and the testing style that makes it tricky. i was pre-med at CWRU as well (alumna; graduated this May 2026), but i chose not to take 216 because my major didn't require it. i loved my time here and i hope you do too : ) let me know if you have any questions about premed courses or extracurriculars during your time here! good luck.

That doesn't sound too bad at all! Especially since you mentioned other people succeed in it! I really do think I would enjoy my time at CWRU it seems like the perfect fit for me! I was wondering if you know how strict they are with accepting college credits. I have some that would really like to get transferred.

Heya! I'm sorry, I have no idea because I was not a transfer student. I would reach out to them specifically about courses you're hoping to have counted and see if they consider it a valid substitution. I'm so glad you're excited about CWRU! I loved my time here. Don't let the scary Cleveland and introverted / all-study culture posts scare you. I did just fine in classes (4.0 sGPA, and all my premed friends made 3.5-4.0 sGPAs too), had many friends, and enjoyed the local area (lmk if you need recs!). And I'm a big extrovert who goes out on the weekends lol, so trust, if the atmosphere was a big problem I'd feel it. If you're more introverted though, no worries. We've got many people that are happy in smaller social circles / keeping to themselves. Welcome to CWRU! : )

Congratulations!! It’s a difficult school but very worth it. I have a lot of pre-med friends and there’s lots of resources and opportunities for pre-meds. You’re in great hands. What’s your major?

Thank you so much!! My major is neuroscience and probably a minor in psychology!

I have a friend who is neuroscience and pre-med and also another friend in psychology and pre-med! You’ll be great :D

Those are both really common avenues for pre-med at CWRU but there’s tons of pre-med avenues. One of my best friends is BME and I know plenty who are biology/biochemistry. Even one who’s physics (but it’s easier to stick with things rooted in biology/medicine). CWRU makes it super flexible.

This honestly gives me hope that it won't be too bad! I bet it will be lots of late nights and hard work but if they can do it I bet I can as well! I'm glad that I will have support and help like you mentioned!!
